A Viewer Writes: Are we suppose to give them a reward for neglecting their jobs

"Are we suppose to give them a reward for neglecting their jobs or one for actually finally doing them?"

Happy #transformationalthursday Salisbury! This week we are featuring work done by field operations teams to clear overgrowth surrounding the South Park Drive staircase in the City Park!

Clearing the vines and plants growing around and on the staircase not only helps to inhibit overgrowth, but promotes safety by making sure the staircase is clear, and the railings are graspable! Shout out to field operations for their beautiful work!

  1. It will also promote a washout in the heavy rains we have around here. You will see in after a few good storms they will need to put in dirt and grass to secure the area they cleared.
It's done it in the past. It will do it again.

  2. They do all time in Federal Government. Even if you plan a luncheon. You can get 425.00 on the spot award. No kidding.

  3. The few city building maintenance and grounds employees are overworked and overwhelmed by how much work needs to be done. 3 guys can only do so much at a time. Give them a break and just say a “Thank You guys”. It’s no big deal.

  4. This is exactly what the city should be doing, this is something Jake & the City Council could get behind really cleaning up the city ---good job. I called Code & Compliance about a property in the city about a week ago they did exactly one thing they said they would do. The property only got the grass cut by the absentee owner living in New Jersey once a year. The city notified them and then the city had the grass cut I don't believe they believed it was 3 ft tall but they saw it and mowed it. Now maybe we'll see fewer copperheads!

  5. Shout out for what neglecting their job that they get paid to do for years? Did they clean up the river banks from overgrowth? These riverbanks 10 years ago had big rock installed to help with the erosion and been allowed to be overrun by trees briars etc. Since the City of Salisbury is not keeping the river banks clear, then there should be no shout out, because of the City's incompetence and wasteful spending. You don't even want me to start on the animal section that is worst than the ghettos.

    1. What did you expect when crybaby city workers LIE about their bosses. They leave. Isn't that right Corey?? The water manger for the city. The biggest do nothing , uneducated POS at the city. Yeah we all know you. USELESS and BRAINLESS.

  6. Happy to say I’ve never been on or had the occasion to use this stairway. I do have a opinion, but a school teacher once said if you can’t say something good, don’t say anything. As Rod Stewart sang “ Ever Picture Tell’s A Story”.

  7. Exactly! They should have been ashamed to show the “before” picture

  9. As bad as Salisbury looks city wide this is what they came up with as priority " TRANSACTION THURSDAY"? As usual Day and his cronies take the easiest route and blow it up for social media. Once again Stevenson proves he's not management/department head material

Actually last year their idea of cleaning up the riverbanks was to cut everything down and leave it lying there to decay. Some of it was in the waterway.

This was all done for the folked festival and it look worse than if they had just left it alone.

Seems to be a lot of half-a$$ed working going on.

OH and on a funny note, someone posted a pic a few weeks ago of "reflections" put on the in the middle of the road by the zoo

Some of those "reflectors" are already missing! But who didn't see that coming!

  11. 10:51 You have too much time on your hands to be checking peoples grammar, you sound just like someone who thinks they are better than everyone else.In this day and time with what people have gone through and continue to go through you should appreciate your fellow human beings. Clearly you do not read a Bible or your heart would rule your mouth. Go back under the rock thou crawled out from.

  16. "Go back under the rock thou crawled out from."

That would correctly be, "Go back under the rock from which thou crawled." This also makes it sound so much more as though it comes from the pulpit, although its message isn't particularly Christian-like.

“Supposed” is a word, not terminology. Terminology refers to technical or specialty words. Unimportant, I know, but a lot of people learn vocabulary from this blog.

  22. The Woodchuck must be planning a PR event at that spot in the near future.

In a positive vein, readers could send pics to Joe of various spots needing attention, and they could be posted as a routine feature, perhaps captioned as Jake's Job Jar.

    1. This is a great idea! There should be an actual jar, also. Every time a job from Jake’s Job Jar is completed a quarter is put in the jar. When there are enough quarters, they can have an ice cream party!

  24. LOOK DO NOT BEAT THEM UP, AFTER ALL THEY DID DO SOMETHING AND MADE IT LOOK BETTER. I HAVE RODE THROUGH SALISBURY THE OTHER DAY AND I CAN NOT IN MY 70 YEARS EVER REMEMBER SALISBURY MARYLAND LOOKING THIS BAD. ALL THE ROADS ARE A BUMPY, HOLEY MESS THAT COULD TEAR YOUR CAR UP IN A FLAT -SS MINUTE OR BLOW A TIRE. THE STREETS ARE AWFUL AND GRASS AND WEEDS ARE EVERYWHERE. IF THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE CALL A GOOD MAYOR I WOULD HATE TO SEE A BAD ONE.
