The shutdown of the American economy should end as soon as possible. We have reached the point where fear and panic have precluded logic and facts. The damage from our overreaction to the Covid-19 pandemic is likely to prove greater than the death toll from the disease itself. The virus is not containable, and our attempt to achieve the unachievable grows more costly every day.
Covid-19 is not proving as deadly as first imagined. Last March 16, a group of researchers at Imperial College in London predicted 510,000 deaths in the UK and 2.2 million in the US. Within ten days, these early estimates were revised downward by more than an order of magnitude. As I write, the best estimate of ultimate deaths from Covid-19 in the US is about 60,000, the same as the 61,000 people who died from influenza during the winter of 2017-2018. Yet we continue to suffer from a shutdown whose imposition was justified by a fallacious model prediction.
The spread of the coronavirus is both inevitable and necessary. It is necessary because, in the absence of a vaccine, the only way to counteract the disease is to build immunity in the population. A person who contracts the infection and recovers is immune. They can no longer become ill or spread the disease. Infection and recovery is the most effective vaccination possible.

Open source the protocols for prevention and treatment. Cut big pharma out as the middleman. Let us choose individually how to prevent and treat based on our own research and reopen the economy.
ReplyDeleteCOVID predicted deaths went down because people took action you dopes. Thats exactly how a forecast is supposed to work.
ReplyDelete8:45 Nope, not going to believe 6ft and a leaky mask is going to prevent anything but a country's prosperity. Keep buying into this nonsense sheep boy
DeleteWrong, and as far as flu of 2017-18 look at the graph.

45,297 deaths so far. Spread of a preventable disease is never necessary. You're being told its patriotic to put yourself and your family in danger to make more money for the rich. Sadly the American people will not take away the most important points from this out real. 1) the working class makes the country run 2) we have an completely inept and unqualified administration in power.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right.
DeleteSouthern states are opening back up after learning the virus disproportionately kills low income people of color. Politicians and the rich will remain indoors because other peoples lives are disposable to them. Simple as that. America's capitalist machine runs on blood.

What moron Governor would ever tell any human beings they aren’t essential??
ReplyDeleteMany self employed people may never pull themselves out of the whole he dug.
1200$ stimulus from the Feds does not make up the loss HE caused.
They have not confirmed that having the virus gives you immunity.
ReplyDeleteWith over 30 strands of this mess out there, I am staying home and have Alexa play anything from Hermin's Hermitts
ReplyDeleteSo you fell for the surveillance from big brother did you? SMH
DeleteIt's really ironic seeing all these "pro-life" conservatives try to justify people dying for the economy. As a result of this pandemic it's proven that the working class are integral to the economy, an economy that's rigged to substantially favor the wealthy and ultra-wealthy, and this group of elites somehow managed to convince people that it's worth their lives under the guise of patriotism.
ReplyDelete8:01 Maybe for a paycheck in order to pay our own bills, instead of a government handout and be told when and where we can go.
DeleteSays the people who are not in the "high risk" group... I understand most workers are frustrated. Most workers are in the 20-60 age group, and IF they get COVID they will get very sick, but not likely DIE! This virus 10x more deadly and 10x more contagious as the flu. Do you really not care about everyone over 80? Mnay of thoise, if they get infected, die. If you open too soon, you put everyone at risk. Do you know anyone with COVID, anyone, who has died? I do. An 83 year old acquaintance, got it, died. Underlying condition, yes, but still dead. Just a statistic, unless it is YOU. Just one of 179,00, in the US. My son got Covid. He is fine now, 10 days, no fever or cough, but if he had visited, in the 5 days he was asymptomatic, I'd be probably dead, and so would my mother. Together we will survive, selfishness, and impatience will kill many of us. We still are not even close the peak locally. Stay home, stay safe.
ReplyDeleteYour post is contains lies, 10 X more contagious than the flu, 179,00 / did you forget a zero or put the comma in the wrong place? Sorry for your loss, but think personal hygiene along with often and proper handwashing go a long way in preventing the spread.
DeleteThe author acts as if this is NOT a Psychological Operation on the people. This is the catalyst for global communism.
ReplyDeleteEverything is working exactly as planned.
By the way, if the death toll is not large enough, they can kill more people. Is that what it will take to get compliance?
There are many factory workers still on the job. They are supplied with masks and gloves and explained the rules of social distancing so they continue to work and receive a weekly paycheck. There may be others who can do the same. I would think it would be better for some to go back to work as long as they can follow the rules.

ReplyDeleteCool quote huh!!!
Well I'm glad people have this mentality or we would not have police or military or doctors and nurses.
