While the US Postal Service fights for its life financially, 2,000 of its workers are in quarantine and dozens have tested positive for the coronavirus

The US Postal Service is in crisis, with lawmakers warning that plunging mail volumes could shut it down by June without "urgent" financial help — threatening everything from critical medicine deliveries and vote by mail to a third of Amazon orders.

But the crisis is far more than financial. The National Association of Letter Carriers, the union representing USPS city carriers, said 51 USPS employees had tested positive for COVID-19 as of Wednesday. On top of that, nearly 2,000 were in quarantine.

"As the number of confirmed positive coronavirus cases have increased throughout the general public, so too have been the number of postal employees who have tested positive," a statement from the union's president, Fredric Rolando, read. "About half of the postal employees are quarantined by order of public health officials and half have chosen to self-quarantine."

  1. Letter carriers, services folks (i.e., TRUCKERS, police/fire/first responders) and so on.

Many meat/potato service jobs that we rely on day to day.

Aside from politico bashing, I hope we get a handle on all of this and SOON!

  3. 10:05 You fail to realize this is part of their plan!!!! Call it crazy, stupid, conspiracy talk whatever demonize bullshit you uneducated clowns think you know about...

Answer me this, all who know everything about nothing, Why tit the top 300 richest people who own the richest companies, all of a sudden sell all of their stock and resigned from the boards??? Like how Gates stepped down from MS and Berkshire Hathaway? And sold all of their assets???? In order to be able to sell your stuff before a market crash (Remember Martha Stewart?)How come they are not locked up for insider trading at the very least??? But outside of that, think about it, how do you know a market crash is coming, in order to even be able to sell it in time??? You know about it, then ask how can someone KNOW BEFORE IT HAPPENS??? IT is planned that's why!!!!

You people need to understand how the govt and evil works... They want it all, and will do what it takes to get it all... Evil people do evil things, and there is no amount of evil these evil people will not stop at in getting their way!!! I mean you even have the media, re-using pictures from Italy, saying this is what the US looks like in hospitals, then some actually smart people called them out, and now look, the first time in history since years ago, the news redacted their crap and said sorry and that it was a mistake... This is how stupid they know you all to be, they re use images to trick you into thinking it is worse than it is... Then you have Cuomo the NY governor Say to different statements at to different times live on TV about ventilators... Saying there are none, they need them, where the hell are they, then a reporter asked, you have some stockpiled in a warehouse don't you??? Trump and every investigated it and said they are there!!!! Then Cuomo back tracks, and admits they are hording ventilators in a warehouse, so they have them, he just uses govt speak, to trick you, by saying well yes we have them but we haven't sent them out to hospitals yet, because they don't need them yet, they are not overwhelmed yet...

All you slaves have to do is pay attention and listen and remember!!!! The govt will tell you its secrets in public to your face, they do not hide it, it is just you all don't care, are are to stupid!!!

  5. This event will bring the end of cash it will be all digital because the government will need taxes from every dollar to pay this debt.

  6. What about the people there that have been working 20 years and have 15 to go? There won't be anything left when they retire. Another government Ponzi scheme

  7. Go to five day a week delivery and consolidate routes. There's NO need for a person to be paid for 8 hours when their only working 5-6 hours. Their literally skipping at least a third of their routes daily. Do we really need 70,000 dollar a year prescription delivery personel?

  8. The virus lives on paper and cardboard to make sure you don't get it you need to microwave all your mail for a minute. I was told to do this by my mail carrier.

  9. You're getting this information from nalc union officials?? Next to the teamsters representatives the nalc are the biggest crooks going

  10. God Bless the postal workers. They are on the front line. Prescriptions, bills, checks, payments, etc., would not be occurring without them. Look to the management and congress for any blame regarding the system, not the workers. Keep them in our prayers!

Okay, you've had your rant and it changes nothing, and you didn't make one suggestion that would change anything. Do you feel better now? Relax and remember the serenity prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference.

You worry about things that you cannot change. In these extraordinary times, you need to change the things that you CAN change (your behavior), and not the ones that you can't. Complaining about the government response to unprecedented and never seen before events is futile. And trying to belittle everyone else as if you are the only one that notices the things you complain about, is just self serving and helps no one. You might think you are smart, but much smarter and more qualified people are dealing with this, whether in government or the workworld. You have no standing to criticize anyone, or to call them stupid. My experience is only stupid people resort to calling other people stupid. It's what people call other people when the name caller isn't any smarter than anybody else, and has no answers, only complaints.

  13. The postal service has been doing this since the 80's it's time for them to put their big boy/girl panties on and carry their own weight. There's nothing they deliver that can't be done by another company for alot less. As far as Amazon packages their creating their own delivery services.

  14. ANSWER THIS keyboard warriors: WHAT IS THE POSTAL SERVICE doing to sanitize your mail: NOTHING!! What is the federal government doing to sanitize paper currency: NOTHING!! This WILL be the end of the postal service as it is today and the end of paper currency.

    2. @1:54 you can't be this dumb! The whole country is on the brink of financial collapse and you think these two things will survive while everything else falls apart? You must be a postal employee that is in denial

    3. Nope, not a postal employee at all. Everything else is not falling apart either, our country will survive this crisis, even if YOU don't think so. American is a very resilient and diversified machine. We have gone from nothing to the greatest country in the world in 250 years. There's a name for negative people like you 4:54, but I won't call you out here. Keep Traveling LOL

  15. Shut the postal service down!! Who the hell still uses them?? I get mail once a week whether I want it or not, and it's a stack of junk mail rubber banded out. The Democratic party needs the postal service for their upcoming "mail in" voting system. What possibly could go wrong with that?? A bunch of liars, thieves and evil people

  16. Sad but True @10:28 but today's society doesn't have the guts to stand up and fight back. Up to this point the prideful American consumer thought the UNITED STATES was too big to be effected by "the world's problems". The government has told us all for years to prepare ourselves for this very scenario and others just as devastating. Do you REALLY think the world leaders care if 1-2 million die from this virus? Just like the way they sacrifice young soldiers in war these casualties are factored in. We're ALL expendable to the very faction you bring up. Gates has first hand knowledge of ALL of this, WHY?? Does anyone remember the movie OUTBREAK starring Dustin Hoffman?? COINCIDENCE, I think not

  17. The article states the postal service has LOST 63 BILLION dollars from 2007-2016. How the F*** are you allowed to get away with that??

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sorry but the postal service will be forced to restructure. They were BEGGING for 25 billion but only received 10 billion in loan guarantee and 11 billion in existing debt erased. Like Pelosi the carrier union is already begging for more money. Let them fail and forced into downsizing. Let's face it they can't provide the service private companies do. Amazon is about to close the USPS down

    ReplyDelete
  19. @1:54 I've got to say the postal service will have no choice but to make MAJOR changes after this! This was the last nail in the coffin. As far as currency we're almost a cashless society already

  20. This is what kills me about people that work at a place like the Post office. They cry and whine about others in society that live off of government handouts yet they are just a glorified welfare cardholder

  21. Watch closely people once the USPS gets their bailout just like every other time they'll hand out hundreds of millions in upper management bonuses and buy new fleet vehicles. They do the same dumb shit every time. I guess Pelosi will get her kickback through whichever company gets awarded that contract. UNBELIEVABLE!!

  22. To be safe from the virus contaminated mail you need to run it thru the washing machine. The Microwave might burn it, but a good wash will get it done.

  23. I worked for 20 years at a US Intelligence Agency. For years, it was a given that what the employees there could NOT be outsourced. Well, it finally came to budget caps and that Agency has not been outsourcing a large part of its support organization for nearly 20 years now. When I began hearing similar arguments coming out of the USPS, I immediately thought about why a mail carrier though they were so much more specialized than the Intelligence workforce was pure bunk. I actually trained to be a mail carrier and learned that the USPS were so full of it, nothing they claimed could be trusted. How about how they could fire an employee for moonlighting for a parcel store or UPS? That's socialism in its finest form.

I don't wish to continue paying for recyclable trash collection just to dispose of junk mail and underwrite an agency who can't do a cost effective job.

  24. Man there's no way in hell the postal service can pay back 10 billion in loans. They proved that already by Congress erasing 11 billion in defaulted payments. They'll have to raise stamps to a dollar a piece to cover this debt and who's going to put up with that??
