There's A Ton Of Counterfeit Masks Out There

While Governor Hogan has now demanded as of Saturday you must wear masks in public places, he's failed to educate and even warn everyone about the counterfeit masks being sold/distributed around the world right now.

I have a close friend who is an expert in this field. He and his business associates buy millions of masks in their profession and the key thing they look for is the "NIOSH" label on each mask. This mask meets all of the major standards necessary to keep you safe.

These particular masks at this time are pretty much impossible to find. These specialty companies have bonded together to purchase masks by the millions and they just can't find them as they were sold out immediately after this coronavirus was exposed.

I have come across a few companies who were willing to sell the masks in their inventory but as soon as I asked if they have been NIOSH approved they refused to answer if they were or weren't.

So what I learned was, there are MILLIONS of asks available, most of which are from China. However, they are counterfeit and bogus. For our Governor to demand we wear something, anything, even if it's home made is very irresponsible. I'm sure most of you will come back and say something is better then nothing. You may be right, I'm not a doctor. However, I do know experts in the field and they have assured me that if I want to be safe we need to wear NIOSH approved asks. Now YOU are educated as well. You can either listen to me or you can trust your Governor, that's up to you. At least I've offered you a disclaimer. Our Governor did not.

  1. As you know his order had nothing to do with N95 masks.

N95 masks should be reserved for first responders and medical personnel. No for shopping at Walmart.

    1. Exactly... you can make a “homemade” one and your good ..? None of it matters who cares about a mask and it’s ratings if you can make your own. It’s all nonsense. The mask doesn’t do anything except cover a cough and then you’re still breathing it right back in and it’s all over the sides of the mask and everything else all over your hands that you’re touching everything with and everything else people in this world are so stupid it’s just to see if you’ll follow directions like the rest of the puppets in this world

  2. 10:03, While I somewhat agree with 1st responders, how do you value YOUR life over anyone else's? My POINT to this article is to inform and educate everyone that the masks you can buy right now are bogus and not safe. They may LOOK like they'd work but there's a damn good reason they came out with the NIOSH rated masks. Americans simply look for the CHEAP version. IF you value your health you'll look for N-95 masks and or especially the NIOSH masks. If they have no labeling on them then they're not worth a damn, period.

  5. If the supply is so small that hospital and EMS personnel can't get them, How in the world is the man on the street able to procure them in compliance with all these Governor mandates that are appearing all over the country??
I ordered mine in February and have not received them yet...

  6. Ever since this mess started I’ve been looking for masks - great that the gov orders us to wear masks, but where in the world do you get them?

  7. LOL I love the "save them for first responders" comments as if the rest of us should just roll over and die and not have the means to protect ourselves. If the masses are protected then we add protection to the first responders

and 10:12 is just as correct, what difference does it make if it doesn't stop anything and its just a psychological game.

My first comment to the mandate was - I don't have a mask and you can not buy any so what are we supposed to do. Hogan should be handing out free masks to every citizen if he is going to mandate something like this

  8. Anything other than the n95 is only blocking 50-70% of what comes through by the estimates I’ve seen. If it’s not form fitting around your face it comes around the mask anyways because of the path of least resistance. It helps more from you infecting others than stopping you from being infected. Peoples hands are up around their faces more adjusting now too.

  9. China has been passing off fake products for years. Made in China used to mean cheap as in garbage. Now it is cheap because of price and we can have wall sized tv's and every gadget know to man. But it is still garbage.

  16. All masks are barriers which are more or less effective against certain particle sizes or chemical vapors. Fitment of the mask around the chin and face is very important also to ensure a good, tight fit. Good mask but poor fit is just a false sense of protection.

High spec PPE is in very short supply because demand has skyrocketed. The retail supply chain will eventually refill. So in the interim, any barrier is better than no barrier if you are not at home.

    Stay safe, y'all.

  17. Masks are being required in retail stores because people can not follow rules.
In order to help with 6 foot distancing ACME made their aisles one way with arrows on the floor at each end of the aisle.
After going down the aisles for a bit I realized that I kept meeting people coming toward me. Finally I started pointing out to people they were going the wrong way on a one way street and every single one of them said....I never noticed.
Really people didn’t notice and didn’t care to notice. So now we all have to wear masks when entering the stores because we couldn’t follow a few simple rules. Will the masks make a difference? Who knows ? Following directions seems to be really hard for some people. The question is it lack of respect or just not paying attention or do they think the rules don’t apply to them? Who will enforce the mask wearing rule at each and every store?
No one was enforcing the one way aisles at Acme so I doubt stores will enforce the mask wearing after 5 days.

  20. If the elderly are the major victims of the virus, why should masks be for first responders and the elderly. We get special store hours (I personally don't know any retirees who are up and wanting to shop at 7 am. I may be up but my creaky joints are not awake until much later). So put masks aside for us too. And for people with lung or respiratory problems.
