New Study Finds 94% Of Virus Patients In NYC Hospital System Had Underlying Conditions

A new study released by the Journal of the American Medical Association this week found that 94% of people hospitalized within the Northwell Health system, the same system housing the most patients in the country throughout the pandemic, according to Fox News, displayed one or more underlying health issues.

The Northwell Health system serves approximately 11 million persons in Long Island, Westchester County, and New York City. The study examined 5,700 patients, roughly 60% of whom were male, who were admitted to 12 hospitals in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County between March 1 and April 4.

The median age of patients was 63 years old; 56.6% of coronavirus patients suffered from hypertension; 41.7% whose body mass index (BMI) data could be found were obese and 33.8% were diabetic.

    2. If you go into the study data (link in article). The age range was 0-107. But 50% of the people were in the 52-75 range making the median age 63.

    3. Maybe they should run the numbers for the 1 year to 85 year old bracket for a more accurate picture.

  2. And the surprise is??? Since the emergence if this virus in China they've been talking about those with underlying conditions being the highest risk. Ever took a look at US health statistics? That accounts for about half of you sloppy fat overdrinkin, druggin, or just plain old coots. Now get back inside! LOL

  3. Overweight, High Blood Pressure, High Cloerestal, Diabetes, smokers, vapers, and beer drinkers are 80% more apt to die from the virus. CDC has said this and it is proving out. The problem is this is also 90% of Americans!

(most have two or more of these conditions)

  5. Well it was a perfect storm.
A lot of extremely wealthy but relatively older people who enjoy traveling globally a lot more than most Americans. Virus outbreak. Not hard to imagine this happening again with other virus releases.
