Virginia is set to become the first state in the US south to ban conversion therapy for LGBTQ minors.
Gov. Ralph Northam signed a bill on Monday, proposed by state Delegate Patrick A. Hope (D-Arlington), that prohibits the discredited treatment which purports to change sexual orientation or gender identity.
The General Assembly has also passed an identical Senate bill, proposed by Senator Scott A. Surovell (D-Fairfax).
