Italian coronavirus patients who are 80 or older will not receive intensive care if the crisis worsens, under emergency plans being proposed in Turin.
The plans drawn up by civil protection officials warn that 'it will be necessary to apply criteria for access to intensive treatment' if there are too many patients.
The document, seen by the Daily Telegraph, proposes that these criteria 'must include age of less than 80'.
Doctors have already described making life-or-death decisions about who can be treated and who may effectively be left to die.

That is just crazy. I know quite a few seasoned adults over 80 who are functional and still live by themselves. . .how are they determining who should and should not get treatment
ReplyDeleteBernie! Bernie! Socialized medicine at its best!
ReplyDeleteYou got it!
DeleteIt attacks the lungs. If a person has trouble breathing they need medical assistance.
ReplyDeleteThe death panels are the benefits of a socilized medicine and you will like it! Or you will be shot
ReplyDeleteSigned your progressive democrat
in Italy either you have money and pay for health care or you sit and wait for the govt to treat you. Epic fail in a crisis like this. This is why we cannot go to single payer or govt run healthcare. Remember when BO said to a woman asking if her elder mother could be treated for orthopedic surgery, maybe she should just go home and take some aspirin.
ReplyDeleteNot enough hospital beds with respirators is why...
ReplyDeleteItaly has 3rd world medical care at best still no excuse but its true. The United States has medical care that is sooooooo much better there's no comparison. We like to think that most European countries have great medical care and they should but very few do I'm actually surprised that Italy is doing as much as they are.
ReplyDeleteThe Eskimos had it right, when you are no longer able to help support the tribe you took a one way walk in a major snow storm.

ReplyDeleteNot exactly accurate from what I've read elsewhere. The northern area around Lombardy and Piedmont is hard hit with many cases and a high percentage of Italians actually afflicted.
Their medical planning envisions a triaging of those over 80 IF (emphasis added) they run short of ICU beds and ventilators. They are skating close to the edge but to best of my knowledge have not kicked the triage into action.
My comments are based on yesterday's info.
6:17...nice try slick! Before that curling ache enters your finger I'll have several down range, one with your name on it...smh
