Delmarva Power Seeking Rate Increase To Cover Cost Of Modernization

Delmarva Power is asking the Delaware Public Service Commission (PSC) to increase electric and gas rates to offset modernization expenses

In a statement released Monday Delmarva Power said they are requesting that the PSC update electric and natural gas delivery rates to reflect the costs associated with reliability improvements to the local energy grid, along with new technology the company has implemented to meet customer needs and growth in Delaware.

These efforts have resulted in record service reliability for customers and led to the company winning national residential and business customer satisfaction awards, according to Delmarva Spokesman Timothy Stokes.

Stokes said the requests seek to adjust the typical Delaware electric residential customer’s monthly bill by about $3.68 and the typical residential natural gas customer’s monthly winter bill by about $6.00.

  1. Screw Delmarva Power. They have already increased the electric rate numerous times since they were allowed to by legislation. The General Assembly needs to reign them back in and pass legislation stopping these damn rate increases. How much more modernization do they need. Delmarva Power is making an enormous profit on us. Use their profits to "modernize."

  2. Piss off. That is a cost of doing business. In the private sector its called investing in your business to remain competitive. The trump tax cut should also have served them well along with the increases in section 179.

  10. It is amazing how much cheaper electric is in other States.
A HIGH Air Conditioner bill in North Caroline is about $150.00

  12. I would love to see them have a lesson in customer service. I would gladly pay for a small increase if I could talk to someone with some sense when I call.
Last year a crew came out and erected a second pole.
I was told that we were getting under ground cables but still we would have a wire going to the house.
The day they turned off the electricity I was home and my vehicle was in the driveway. The cake I was baking
was only have way done and when they turned the power back on it fried the energy saver box on my hot water heater. I was told by customer service they would come back out in a week and remove the first pole but would need to turn off the electricity again. After talking to my electrician it was decided to wait until they did that because if not it could again fry a new energy box unless I knew ahead of time so I could cut it off. After waiting three weeks and having to take showers elsewhere I finally reached a gentleman in the engineer’s office.
I told him my dilemma. He said he had no idea when they would be back out and they were waiting on the Xfinity before they removed the pole. His suggestion and I quote
“ I think you can get a temporary membership at the Y and take showers over there until we come back out”
At that point I decided to replace my hot water heater with one without an energy saver box. The pole is still here and they never returned to finish up their work. That is beyond poor customer service.

    1. has the other party removed/ transferred their facilities to the new pole? If not, there's the reason the original pole remains. Happens all the time

  13. My bill has been over $400 a month during the Summer and it is just me living in my house. One day I came home and my power had been disconnected because I didn't get a late bill or a phone call and I had to pay an additional $750 deposit to get it turned back on. The woman I talked to on the phone about that was extremely rude and talked down to me the entire time.

I know it was mostly my fault but I didn't have to be treated like a criminal with bad credit. I have Triple-A credit and this bill just got lost somehow or something. I've had Delmarva Power for over 30 years so it's not like I am going somewhere and they don't know where I work. Delmarva Power doesn't give a damn about their customers, it's about the all mighty profit!

  14. Their profits are stupendous.

Use some of that money instead of monstrous bonuses and meetings and travel to exotic locales, on business, of course, of course.

Quit squeezing "we, the people" and as far as our "leaders" are concerned, quit ALLOWING them to squeeze us.

Probably not on your agenda, is it?

    Keep cheering.

  17. I have extended my personal life activities and totally improved my own quality of life by becoming a world traveller and limiting my diet to only the finest of chef's culinary creations, so I will now require the Social Security Administration to increase the amount of my monthly check by a minimum of 20%. Thank you for understanding.

  18. This article said Delmarva Power, That is Maryland, not Delaware you idiots, but I wouldn't expect anything less from morons... A epileptic monkey is smarter than all of you...

Delaware has a CO-OP called, DELAWARE CO-OP, I am sure Delmarva Power might have their hand in Delaware some, but they are mostly Maryland, so Maryland would see the rate increase!!!!

  19. 9:37......a pious, self-appointed wunderkind arrogantly lecturing the poor masses.
Mostly about how smart he thinks he is.

He also probably never does anything wrong, either, and is perfectly willing to surrender at any time under any circumstances. For any reason.

We are blessed to just have him among us.

  21. Maybe they should sell some of the real estate they own on the eastern shore. Most larger properties are owned by them or their counter part (the big time developer company around here that most should know but I will leave nameless)
