Questions raised after slide with Pres. Trump shown at Maryland High School

TOWSON, Md. (WBFF) - Upset parents are contacting Baltimore County Schools about a slide that was shown in their child's history class this week at Loch Raven High School.

The slide featured a picture of President Trump above pictures of a swastika and hammer-and-sickle.

Over the picture of the president are the words "Wants to round up a group of people and build a giant wall." The words "been there" and "done that" appear under the pictures of the swastika and hammer and sickle. A banner on the side reads "Oh that's why it sounds so familiar!"

UPDATE
Baltimore County Public School Statement to Media:

“The slide was used as part of a lesson in an AP History course. The topics being discussed included World Wars and the attempts by some leaders to limit, or prevent migration, into certain countries. In isolation and out of context with the lesson, the image could be misunderstood. In our Advanced Placement (AP) classes, which are college level courses, we expect and encourage analysis and discussion around historical and current events even if they are considered controversial. This lesson was not intended to make a political statement. If a student has concerns when discussing a controversial issue, schools have the tools to address the concern and support the student.” -Baltimore County Public Schools

  1. This is easily traced back to the responsible person or persons in the school system. Who should immediately be dismissed for corrupting young minds and not knowing history.

  4. And this is why we send our kids to school? I think not!! Those kids cannot unsee what they just saw in that classroom. Teacher and principal should be fired and be made to go live in North Korea for the rest of their lives.

  5. I'm Gen X. All my teachers were big lefties in high school- morons thought they were indoctrinating us, but we anti-social types believed the opposite of whatever they told us out of spite. In other words, their indoctrination didn't take.

Our only hope now is that there are enough kids left who are skeptical of the crap they're being taught .

  6. In context, it was an appropriate part of the lesson. Parallels were being drawn between what Trumps policies are and what was happening in the part of history being studied. Go back and read the article.

The point is not only educating but getting the students to think and apply histories lessons to today.

HOWEVER, it could easily be misunderstood that this is calling Trump a communist or a Nazi... which is just false. While he has emboldened and made louder those calling themselves "Nazi" in America today (ironically because of said policies), he certainly is not a Nazi or Communist.

These details would be an important part to include in that lesson.

    1. It was clearly a political shot directed at President Trump. I don't care what the school system says, the captions and comments surrounding the photos tell the author's real interpretation of the message they are trying to subliminally project. Furthermore, those people from the WWII and the Soviet Union eras were discriminated against purely on their race, religion and beliefs. Trump's immigration laws are based on national security and ILLEGAL immigration. Two totally different circumstances and to try and correlate them together is ridiculous and irresponsible.

  7. This is what Democrats do. Start indoctrination very young and add to it as kids go through school. By the time they are done they are well on their way to becoming left wing idiots. But what do parents do? Nothing. Post a couple remarks on their I-phones and continue with life. Parents can't even get Common Core out of the education system by that socialist Bill Gates who wants to use his socialist ways of teaching.

  12. Indoctrination at it's best against Conservative values. Hogan allows this BS in schools and does nothing.

  14. If you except murdering 6,000,000 by nazi's and millions more to die in Siberia to impose your will to take over a nation with building a fence(wall) to protect a border-Your deductive reasoning should not be teaching.

  15. I took AP History in Anne Arundel Co back in the mid 1990's, they DID NOT teach side-slanted views of history back then. What the hell happened????

  16. Frank response to the bull excrement being peddled by the school and BOE up there. Their spin is just crap and a total dodge.

Hitler murdered 6 million Jews, in addition to all of the other civilian and military deaths caused by his actions. None of President Trump's actions or proposed actions envision starting a world war or exterminating a religious minority or disabled people. His son-in-law, daughter and their kids are Jewish.

Communists in Soviet Union Russia, in China, in N. Korea, in Vietnam, in Cuba, in the Iron Curtain states killed somewhere around 100 million people, in addition to the miserable police states they ran and still run. Still no equivalence with President Trump. If there were, the entire group responsible for this from instructor to school board members would already have disappeared and be in captivity.

The instructor has grossly misused the privilege granted them to instruct. In an AP course this is even more grievous. The students may be bright but they are still young HS kids. Instructors may have only a few years of experience and may only have a BS degree. The College Board should look closely at whether this HS and this instructor should be permitted to instruct this course.
