In a sign that suggests America's obesity epidemic is far from under control, a new government report shows that more than 40% of people in the United States are obese.
And almost 1 in 10 is severely obese, the researchers added.
"Over the time period from 1999 to 2018, the obesity prevalence increased about 12% — from 30.5% of Americans to 42.4% of Americans. Severe obesity almost doubled," said study author Dr. Craig Hales. He's a medical epidemiologist with the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Much more than just a cosmetic issue, obesity is associated with type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, fatty liver disease, sleep apnea, arthritis, gallbladder disease and more, according to the U.S. National Institute for Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

This is another case of junk science.
ReplyDeleteWatch old movies on TCM and tell me that anything has changed other than the standards that they use to claim obesity.
Yeah,look at Fred and Ethel.
ReplyDeleteWe are not talking chubby people. They mean Circus side show sized people. Growing up I can remember one or two enormous fatties around town but not like you see now everywhere. It certainly may have been as they said " Glandular " at onetime but we now know different. The next investment wave in Medicine will be preventative care to get people off long term treatment and pharms and the disability Dole. We should not be paying for peoples unwise lifestyle choices and habits. Growing old is one thing being perpetually stupid and indulgent is another. A National Health Care system will just make people even lazier and irresponsible stewarts of their own well being and lives.
ReplyDeleteA good measure would be whether or not they can fit through the kitchen door
Delete1 in 3 now have dangerously high blood pressure thanks to the changing of guidelines that we had been using for 120 years. Whoda' thunk it?
ReplyDeleteOh, my 600 lb wife...oops, I mean life. The TV show. Freudian slip.
ReplyDeleteI sure see a lot of huge women at WalMart, A LOT! So fat, they waddle. Have to ride in a motorized carts, that struggle to move their body mass. Have they no shame, or concern for their health? All they want to do is shove food into their mouths all day long. They are a huge drain on society. Their mother told them it's not what's on the outside, it's what's on the inside that matters. And that's what society gets. No responsibility for their worthless life.
