A viewer writes.....Firestone Complete Auto Care in Salisbury

EDITOR'S NOTE: This post is very long and detailed. Click 'READ MORE' below to continue and view photos.

Teresa Davis Tierney added 5 new photos to the album: firestone total story — at Firestone Complete Auto Care.

I made an appointment Sunday, February 9 at 9 AM with Firestone in Salisbury Maryland for an oil change. I should have realized that something wasn’t quite right when I went to sign my invoice and was told I needed a new starter and tires. I then advised them I just purchased tires with them this past August , then they look at my record and stated , oh yeah I see that. My tires were then confirmed to be OK and when I asked the manager, George why would they tell me I need new tires when I didn’t he said they always recommend them. I was also told I needed a new starter. Attached is the quote for the new starter which is labeled as preventative maintenance and also the receipt from where I had a new starter installed in October 2017 from them.

In addition to getting my oil changed my battery was also changed as well since it came back as a bad battery and that also was just replaced August 2019. The entire time that we were there in the morning the gentleman taking care of me at the register was new. The manager George kept interrupting us the entire time while the gentleman was trying to take care of me and just constantly belittling him is the only way to say it——I even told the gentleman don’t worry you’ll get the hang of it your new it takes time. I felt really sorry for him and I told my husband I’m going to call and make a complaint on that —-that’s not right—- you don’t do that to someone in front of the customer. We left. Two hours later I go to start my car and again it’s real weak when trying to start. I call Firestone and was immediately advised “so that means it is your starter.” They told me they cannot get me back in and it would have to be Monday. ( ironically when we showed back up after corporate told me to go back they had two cars in the Bay) !!!!!! I asked them could they squeeze me in as I am a long time customer ever eight years that provides them a lot of business and I needed my car fixed. The manager did not even put me on hold and even consult about it just told me no and saying he was rude about it doesn’t even come close to accurately describe his attitude. I made a phone call to corporate to make a complaint and in the interim we drove to AutoZone. While I am on the phone with corporate putting my complaint in the AutoZone employee has the tester to my car checking the parts in my car. The results are also attached in this post. The starter came back good the alternator came back good and the battery came back *******bad battery*******Two different employees looked at my car and tested these parts several times. They both said your starter is absolutely fine. The results show the starter was fine. After researching it’s really not normal that the starter would have gone up after only being a little over two years old. This is a 2004 car and that was the first starter I ever had to put in it was 2 years ago.  So then the representative from corporate told me to go ahead and take my car back and it would be looked at. While on the way there my husband advised me don’t let them know we’ve had it checked ,, I want them to check it themselves and let us know what they recommend —this way we will tell if they’re being honest. And of course the technician came in and said it’s definitely your starter you need a new one. That is when my husband then told them we had the parts checked and that the starter is fine and it is the battery that came back that it was a bad battery. He tried to show George the picture showing the test results and George told him he did not want to see it. He was becoming even more rude overtalking us at this point ,, I was told we cannot trust auto zone by the firestone employees. I asked the technician do you test these batteries before you install them and he told me there is no way to test them until they are installed!!!!!!!!!??????? My husband told him he would go get his voltmeter and show him how to test it. I demanded them to put a new battery in my car so they did and of course when they went to start it it would not start. This time however when it was trying to start there was a loud popping noise that had not been there before and we were at AutoZone for 30 minutes turning off and turning on Over and over and never once had that noise been there. The technician told my husband look it’s smoking ——when my husband went to look at it , there was one clear spot that looked as if it had been tampered with , something did not look right. (See attached pic). This area , mind you , had been inspected prior to going back to Firestone)))))) at this point I told them I knew they did something to my car ——-my starter was fine before we showed back up and now all of a sudden my starter is smoking and making a noise that it wasn’t before. ( it seemed that they were going to try to make their 500+ dollars after all——-for that had been the plan from the very beginning))))))). I said I will have a tow truck take my car from here —they were very catty with me , not speaking to us and just very quickly opening the bay door and pushing my car outside —not even in a parking spot ———pushed it out and left it sitting in the middle of the parking lot. Closed their doors and never said anything else to us. this was probably around 130 2 o’clock at this time. I called for the tow truck and we stayed outside waiting. I will attach a picture to show where they pushed my car to and just left it. After we were outside for two hours still waiting for a tow truck the technician not the manager but the technician came out and offered us to install the starter at no charge. Basically making it sound like let’s just get this rid of and will do it to get you out of here. Of course I declined —- they already sabotaged my starter—— I’m not sending my car back in there for them to do who knows what to it. Again this is after we were standing outside for over two hours waiting for our tow. - With no communication from any firestone worker ! We finally get our tow —-get our car home and it’s around 5 PM. But wait it gets much better now. I post my experience on Facebook. Crystal Justice and Christy Lynn start blowing up comments on my post being extremely rude. They accused me of being a scammer, making comments that I did not make and much more!!!! it was nothing but harassment. !!!!! So since I decided to voice my opinion and concerns of what happened to me I started to become harassed by ............................ wait for it ...............the technician that was working on my car ——-his family!!!!!! Crystal justice is the mother and christy Lynn either a friend or relation - both ladies are friends with him on their Facebook which was Russell Justice (Firestone tech) - that’s how I figured that part out was by their Facebook profiles. The firestone technician that worked on my car. These ladies started making comments to me about things that only the Firestone employees would know. And believe me I captured all the screenshots before they both deleted everything they said to me, which I have also attached to this post. . So ,,,,,, I showed up at firestone at 9 AM and I got home at 5 PM with a tow truck dropping my car off to my home but I am the one being harassed!!!! Not to mention my whole entire Sunday was a bust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With statements such as I should have just taken my free battery and been happy or taken the offer for the free starter and swallowed my pride! Now I’ve been away from my home all day long and now I’m dealing with these type of comments that I have to respond to. Like I have dumb tattooed on my forehead to let them actually take my car back in after two hours of waiting for my tow! I am extremely happy that this happened to me and not someone that would have been gullible and listened to their lies and paid money for services that were not needed and would have been really financially hurt because of it. Not that I’m happy I’m just glad that someone else didn’t actually fall for this and loose money because of their lies———What happened to me is no different than scammers calling people and scamming them out of money or stealing from people and fraud ! it is absolutely no different! Going through life being dishonest and having no morals may be how some people live and I don’t know how they can lay down at night and sleep being that type of person but these practices are absolutely not acceptable. I understand that certain job positions have quotas - I myself work in a call center and have quotas. I have been at my current employer for over 16 years and never once have I lied to one of my customers and try to steal and cheat them out of money!!!!!. I have left my job plenty of days in the negative which I would do 1000 times over before I would ever cheat someone out of their money!!! that is completely unethical!! Anyone who is friends with me knows that I never post on Facebook - SO for me to be putting this out there is very severe on my part that I have gone to this extreme to make this public.

If I can help even one person from being scammed by this company it will be well worth taking the time to get this posted!!!
Please please please please share this over and over and over ! . - I would greatly appreciate it ☺️

If there is anyone else out there that believes you have been a victim of firestone in Salisbury md , please reach out to me.

Thank you for your time to read this information.

Have a blessed day

  1. Have they changed ownership--I have been there many times and they are very honest. If this is true--it's very disturbing.

  2. Wow some people are just crooks, thanks for the post I'll be sure to never go there.thanks again. PS you need to find a mechanic you can trust, try Perdues Used Cars and auto repair in Parsonsburg David Perdue is a real good mechanic and he is honest. He has taken care of my car for years.

  3. Well, I'd if at all possible stay away from the 2 establishments, and places like PEP Boys, you went to, first of all. Very few, Unfortunately auto places are honest.
One good place in Salisbury is Clydes auto repair. Guy is honest. The place is spotless. But will cost you a bit more, and you may need an appointment, or leave your car, as he stays busy. BUT it's done right and they back up their work.
And it costs more also, but I've seen the dealer where I bought my car tell me the correct diagnosis also. But they are really expensive. But it's best done by a dealer, especially foreign cars, many times.
Friend of mine tried working at Autozone part time. Place is a mess.

  4. That’s a shame. I’ve always had very good service at Firestone.

  5. Funny how this person feels victimized.
Don’t you get it? People are going to make money any way they can.
Be aware, don’t be an idiot. Don’t be a stupid person that can be victimized. Stand up for your self.
    This person did!

  6. They've always been extremely professional to me. I've never met this George fellow. I only know of Louie and Matthew as the managers. There was a new guy at the register. He scheduled me for an appointment with no technician available so I had to come back another day. In 10 years that was the worse it's been. Last month they volunteered to replace my shocks, for free under the life time warranty. This person's experience is too long for me to read, and as soon as Facebook trolling is brought up, I quit reading. Once you air grievances on Facebook, you're inviting a lot of poison and drama into your life. I spend over $1500 each year there for the last 12 years. I've been always treated fairly. Evertime I needed tires early, they brought me into the service bay to show why.

    1. Girdletree, if you've spent $1500 a year for the last 12 years at firestone, I hate to be the one to tell you, but you've been taken advantage of also. Every time you needed tires early ??
If I needed tires early more than one time, I think I would find a new tire dealer and try a different brand.

  7. 951am...they didnt need to scam you, they already had you bent over at 1500 a yr. By the description of events the lady was being scammed, Ive worked on auto's all my life. I had considered firestone for some tires a while back. Another place that scams is pepboys and carcare{grants} they prey on women and the elderly because its less likely they know anything about vehicles. They take advantage of the time frame {appointments, downtime, ect}. Make them write a detailed estimate and then seek other opinions. These places are just a criminal ring and should be dealt with by undercover investigators, its worse than being mugged at gunpoint. If the sheriff's dept really cared about its citizens and crime they'd have sting operations to stop these criminal networks.

  11. 10:34, 10:38, 10:58- The reason I spend $1500 a year is that I drive almost 60K miles a year and my vehicle has 275K miles on it. Of course, I need new tires every year! Tires alone cost over $400. You can add in over 12 oil changes each year. That equals to more than half what I spend! The rest of the repairs is normal wear and tear with a vehicle driven so much and to keep maintained. In addition, I don't bring my car in for them to find problems. When problems occur, I bring my car in and I already know what the issue is!

I am sorry if I've been treated fairly by them! You can even see my good reviews on Google that I've left in the past. 10:34-I did not say I needed new tires early every time. Please learn to read if you wish to disparage me. If you don't know what you are talking about, we can all do better and just shut the hell up.

You folks went all CNN with my comments, each of you not having a real clue, but felt my intelligence should be insulted anyway. All I was saying is this has been a good establishment to me. They fix what I tell them to, and have always done it correctly. When they replaced my tires early, I told them I had suspicions of the issue. I had a 71, 73, and a 75 Porsche 914 that I was the sole mechanic for. You can't make those repairs yourself with today's cars, and their oil changes are only slightly more the the materials costs at Walmart, so I'll just keep my hands clean. Thank you. You all can go back to your Facebook trolling.

    2. 1:06- Cracker, If $1500 is half of your yearly income, don't lecture me on who I get to repair my car. Just saying...A new car would run, at least $219 a month. Not counting the increase in insurance, and I would still need new tires and the same number of oil changes every year. Anyone with 2 brain cells can do the math. I am saving a lot.

  12. The tire issue seems to be a little suspect but the starter/ battery problem could be nothing more than a misdiagnosis. These can be hard to diagnose if you don't have the right equipment or are inexperienced. Sometimes part replacement is required just to diagnose a no-start. Having over 30years in the business I have seen it all and remember this is only one side of the story. Never let the customer pay for something he didn't need even if you have to lose money on the job.

  13. That is what you get in car care in Salisbury. I shopped around and tried PENINSULA TOTAL CAR CARE and they are awesome. They do routine check-up on my car when I get oil changed and they let me know if anything's wrong and give me the option to wait or repair it. My last visit I wanted a front end alignment and they were honest enough to tell me the car didn't need it and didn't do unnecessary repairs. When was the last time a repair shop did that for you? Go there ask for Rondell he's a man of great character and integrity!!

  15. As a contractor their corporate contacted me for an employee restroom renovation. It needed a total overhaul at 12k. They said just patch and paint. Falling toilet partitions, holes in the walls, clogged plumbing. I declined bidding when they said it was for their "team". Teams don't treat members like that.

  17. 12:14PM..PENINSULA TOTAL CAR CARE is the most honest, reasonable and upstanding there is! You are correct, and Rondell is the man! I know a man who worked there, who left there for an opportunity of a lifetime, but will take his own vehicle no where else, even for tires. That spoke volumes to me. I started going there and have sent at least a dozen people there myself. The Bierman's are top shelf! Clydes auto repair is also great, and Clyde used to work there.

  18. Pepboys tried to scam me. I was driving in Delmar and picked up something in my tire that then flung off after a few rotations. I immediately switch my display to show tire pressure. I have a 2015 Toyota Camry and it shows pressure for each tire. Sure enough I saw the pressure drop a pound. It was not going fast but fast enough to notice. I pull in and get air to top it off and decide to drive straight to Pepboys. By the time I arrived in their parking lot my tire was at 28PSI which is not bad but certainly below the 36PSI.

I leave the car at Pepboys and they call me back and say I need a new tire because this tire was driven on the rim. I told them there was no way and I was fully aware of how much pressure was in the tire when I dropped it off.

They wanted to argue back at me and I then said that maybe they drove it in the Bay with a flat tire (by the time they got to my car I am sure it was flat or at least close to it). I had parked my car in front the the bay.

I told the manager that I am sure they have Camera's on their property and I would like to see the footage. He eventually conceded that the tire did not need to be replaced and repaired it and I went on my way.

  20. they clearly tried to rip this lady off. From reading the post and subsequent screen shots, it appears as if the young mechanic was trying to rip her off and then tried to cover it up. Now he realizes he is probably going to be out of a job and got his family to harass her. I'm sure he gets incentives to "bump" up the tickets by performing unnecessary repairs.
Everyone has a Pep Boys rip off story, steer clear of those guys.

  25. I really think putting someone's family on here is low! If your unhappy with Firestone keep it with them. If you felt harrassed block them but your posting on social media a public forum where people can comment whatever they wish! Sounds like the one person who tried to help you, your blasting & his family who does that? Sounds sketchy though...starters alternator & batteries can be very hard to diagnose. Why didn't you take the free part & go elsewhere? Why put all this nonsense out here? It does seem like your scamming! I've had great experiences there & I hope nobody ever complains about you when you try to help them ☹

  26. I myself suffered at the hands of Firestone they completely ruined my vehicle then blamed me and harrassed me through phone calls. Please look up west Greenwich Rhode island Firestone I posted directly on their google reviews.... they are negligent ,their customer service skills are horrible and inappropriate. Corporate is a joke I'm putting together info and trying to find people with similar experiences with Firestone for a class action lawsuit... my brother killed himself while my car was failing me because of Firestones negligence... I complained to corporate to have lower management call me the day of my brothers funeral to be screamed at by this guy mike from Firestone who clearly did not know what he was even screaming at me for... I told him your giving me anxiety as he continued to yell over me every time I tried to talk.... sent me into a full blown panic attack forcing my husband to grab my phone and demand this a holes name. That really is the least of my worries, this company single handedly ruined my car and took me for almost 7,000$

    1. Rhode island?! Are you for real? Obviously, different owners! People really love to run businesses out of town on this thread! Make your own judgment calls. My dealership, Sherwood, put the wrong size tire on my car. Everyone, just pay attention! Stop putting blame on others. For the Lord's sake, act like responsible adults. Blaming others only illustrates your own ignorance. Stop crying like you're a victim! If you can't identify your problem yourself, in this age of information, don't complain when someone charges you! Geeze! I thought this site had more capable humans! Nope, just another group of "I told you so's." Gutless trolls! Incredibly sad! Joe deserves a better quality of readers!

  27. I've been to Pep Boys more than once when I needed something fixed right away like a flat tire or replacing a headlight or tail light.

They have always been professional and I've never had a problem. My son had a problem with his Alternator on this Ford Taurus and they referred me to Clyde's because that are honest and reasonable. They didn't have to do this.

It might a little more at Pep boys but they are open later in the evenings and weekends. If it's nothing major, that's where I go.

I also like Delaware Tire here in Salisbury. Been going to them for over thirty years. They are always honest and professional and I always know the price upfront before any work is done.

  30. wow, obviously this mechanic was getting a bonus based on the amount of income his particular bay generated during his shift. He saw that he had an easy mark (woman) and tried to rip her off for repairs she didn't need. When busted he tried to smooth it over with a free battery and installation and now his family is harassing this woman because she contacted corporate and blogged about this transgression, which will probably cost the punk his job. This should be a PSA to all mechanics, Treat your customers with respected and honesty, you never know when you're gonna get BLOGGED!

  31. we went to the sherwood dodge dealers in salisbury that was taken over by another company for an oil change. and we were told that it needed a whole list of repairs. 2 of them were front and rear brakes ,brake hoses, calipers, rotors, pads etc. and they had already all been done a month before that.

  32. Girdletree maybe you need to learn how to change your own oil. I truly doubts you spent 15 K at a tire shop. Lets face it anyone who goes to Pep boy's, Midas, Fire Stone to get real work done on your vehicle is well just stupid or on welfare. I had a minor leak in Brake line they noticed it when I purchased tires from them They said who ever changed my oil last had put motor oil instead of brake fluid. Yep you guessed it I changed my oil last and the time before. They quoted 1800 to replace entire system. I told him go get raped by an ape. The bottom line is you don't by paint at a liquor store and you do not get anything other than tires at Firestone. I contacted the State's Attorneys Office. The crime is theft by deception and the manager ended up apologizing and stated he fired the tech. They work on commission never trust anyone who relies on commission to get paid.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The manager is in on it. They also charge what they call book time. If the book says three hours to install brakes they charge three hours labor even if it only took one hour to complete. All local car dealerships do the same thing. So if I add an extra zero to a check written to me it is a crime. What the hell how can this be legal.

I had a vehicle there a few months ago and the manager had to go ask a mechanic, who looked to be about 16 years old, what the problem was, and the mechanic had never even seen the vehicle, and ask him how to fix it. Some bunch, they are. It was a very bad experience and I told my son not to take his vehicle to a tire store for mechanic work, as they had no idea what they were doing, therefore they should never have attempted to work on it.

  37. I’m a big fan of Clydes on Rt 13. About 10 years ago I took my suv there because something was wrong with the front wheel. He called me and said it was a bad control arm plus something else. It would be about $1,100. He then told me there was an open recall on this part and I should take it to the dealer and they had to fix it for free. He charged me $50. Not knowing much About cars he could have easily made a lot of money off me but his honesty gained him a customer for life

  38. these places are all rip offs. Everyone, and i mean everyone, should know a local trusted mechanic, and not place your faith in these shops. Just buy your tires online, they are cheaper, get them shipped for free and installed by your local mechanic. Sure jiffy lube type places are good for quick oil changes but THATS IT. never let them work on your brakes or anything else. If they cut one of your brake lines they can't fix it. all they do is change pads/rotors. also dealerships are all overpriced and their mechanics get paid on commission. It's clear this mechanic tried to rip her off, it's an all too common practice. Empower yourself people, don't let these crooks rip you off. There are lots of great local mechanics who value their customers, don't overcharge, and do quality work. I personally use Hans auto in Delmar for everything.

  41. This woman is being very deceitful. When she said the tech told her she needed new tires, I was under the impression that as she stated in her post that she got 4 new tires in August. Turns out she only got 2. Also she did not mention how many miles she had put on since. It is always recommended to replace all 4 tires if possible as the manager. As far as letting Auto Zone tell you what is wrong with your car. Those diagnostic test are only as good as the person using them. You obviously had a bad starter as Firestone stated. As far as them saying they couldn’t test your battery. That is not believable. And they did not damage your car. You are a scammer. And no, I don’t work there, don’t know anybody there, and am not a customer of theirs. You are a Drama Queen

  42. Used to be Tim and Fred at Firestone.
    Where did they go?
Last time I was there, their idiot mechanic screwed up, but Tim made it right and fixed it.

Tim made mention they wanted him to transfer to a store in Delaware and he said no. He has managed that store for at least a decade.

    Very sad to hear this.

  43. It is good to hear about the good and the bad, for obvious reason. Just to add another place that is fair and honest and that is Jeff's Auto in Fruitland. Jeff & Pam Cullen have taken care of my cars for years and I have never had a problem.
As for SAFFORD, sorry they ever came to town. When I bought my car from SHERWOOD, I received free oil changes. When SAFFORD took over that deal went out the window. When I complained about it, they said that deal was with SHERWOOD and they will not honor it. So be it, but then decided that after I got my last free oil change the service person said he talked to his supervisor and he said that they could still do the free oil changes but I would have to have all maintenance done there and showed me a list of things that needed to be done on my car. This was to the tune of over 400.00 with less than 25,000 miles. BE CAREFUL OF ALL CAR DEALERSHIPS.

I've ben dealing with Delaware Tire in Salisbury for more than 29 years.

Some of the best help is ALLEN, JIM, JOHN to name a few.

  47. @12:32 nice try!! Delaware tire used to be one of the best in town, if not the best. Unfortunately last time I was there John has retired and Jim was only working a couple of days a week.

  52. Damn! I could have changed her battery and her starter in less time than it took her to write her complaint. It's called Caveat emptor, "Buyer Beware." Bad business and fraud is hard to prove at a auto repair shop. In court, their lawyer will say you don't have the training or knowledge to make the claims you are making. And it is very difficult to get a mechanic's second opinion in court. They don't get paid for that. When they changed her oil and told her of all the other things they "found," she should have left right then. It is a common auto repair scam. That oil change becomes $300.00 with all the things they "find." That $89.00 brake job special...$600.00 by the time they get done with all the other things they find. Happens all the time. Whenever an auto repair shop has a manager or mechanic come into the waiting room to tell me all the things they found that I did not bring my car to then to fix, I tell them I'll deal with it later and just fix what I came in for. Most of the time, if you take it to another mechanic, they won't notice all those other things. Buying a scan tool was the best auto repair investment that I ever made. It has saved me thousands of dollars in bogus and unnecessary repairs to make the check engine light go out, and often they never change a part. They just reset the light. Then when the light comes back on, they will tell you a different component failed, and charge you all over again. My scan tool can reset the light just like theirs. Most people wonder why it takes several trips and repair bills before the shop gets their light to STAY off. It's because they can charge you three times for the same repair they didn't actually do the first two times around. And that's at $300.00 a pop. Dealers shops are notorious for this. If you can't diagnose and repair your own vehicle, you are at the mercy of unscrupulous repair shops, and they are everywhere.

  53. After reading your complaint and looking at your paperwork “ proving” your case I DONT SEE how the company was wrong ? Your paperwork literally says battery ok. So does autozone. I don’t see anything for tire recommendations. Also starter was replaced per CUSTOMER REQUEST... I think this person is trying to get FREE parts and FREE LABOR. SIck. Thank you

And you "know" all that without ever meeting the woman, or examining her car? You're a liar and slanderer. You either work for Firestone, or you are a sleazy mechanic like the one she is complaining about.

    1. I forgot to mention I am no mechanic. Also , you talk about the kettle calling the pot black, Teresa lied and slandered Firestone. If I was them her ass would be in court paying restitution for her ignorant comments. I am sure by now she realizes how much a fool she made out of herself. Have a good day Sparky

If you could get more than one thing fixed or replaced for $400.00 at a dealership, it was a good deal. Quit being so critical. You wouldn't be satisfied if you worked in a pie factory and could eat all you wanted.

  59. Oh yes 9:49, it is definitely RUDE customer service at Burnette White. That ignorant woman has NO business dealing with customers. She should be working in a warehouse or somewhere like that where she isn't around people. If she can't take the heat, she needs to get out of the kitchen.

  60. My name is Tim, & I'm the manager at Firestone. Those of you who are worried, I'm not going anywhere. I've tried to respond to this, but I can't load the response. Anybody who has questions, feel free to call me. I've never had to do this before, I don't know how this all works.
