Salisbury Maryland Mayoral Candidate Denied Access To Amphitheater Because It's A Political Event

"Called city hall today about having the rally and they said I will probably get denied the amphitheater because my event is political. Weren't there LGBT parades, pro-abortion rallies in the park? Isn't a political rally a first amendment right of free speech? Supposedly, Jake is one of the decision makers. I asked them for a law or statute that says I can't do a political event and the woman rushed me off the phone; she said she had to find out."

Let's keep in mind that it was the City Taxpayers who paid for that amphitheater. Jake should WELCOME any person who chooses to challenge him. IF he is so liked, what's he got to worry about? IF they rig the election, (cough, cough) what's he got to worry about?

Having a challenger brings forth new ideas, something Jake and staff desperately need anyway, just like Ireton did in the past. You know, you can swim in the river within 10 years, how's that working for you folks!

Of course you'll never read about the above denial in any of the other news outlets. That's what makes SBYNews so important to this community. I guess they're not lying if they simply don't cover stories where the LIBERALS are cheating the system.

At about 35:40 John Cannon is saying that he sits on a lot of City Boards and that the County should kick in and help pay for Jake Day's National Folk Festival. What the HELL is he talking about. Because Salisbury is the largest municipality in Wicomico County he said the taxpayers should fund the Folk Festival. Then at 36:35 Josh Hastings said he was going to bring that up and that it was embarrassing that the County doesn't help fund the Folk Festival. Then later on, of all people, Marc Kilmer said he would agree to pay the Folk Festival $10,000 if they cut $15,000 from the Elections Board. WTH?? Our so-called Conservative councilman wants to cut a county core function and waste $10,000 on a Ghetto Fest. Good darn thing he is leaving. This is crazy that our council members want to give anything to the City for the Foke Festival. It's not a county event. How much does the City of Salisbury kick in for the Wine Festival, the Good Beer Festival, the girls Softball tournament, the County Fair? How much does Salisbury kick in for the County?? NONE!! No, Abortion Isn't a Constitutional Right

In the past several weeks, a bevy of states have passed extensive new restrictions on abortion. Alabama has effectively banned abortion from point of conception. Georgia has banned abortion from the time a heartbeat is detected, as have Ohio, Kentucky and Mississippi. Missouri has banned abortion after eight weeks. Other states are on the move as well.

This has prompted paroxysms of rage from the media and the political left — the same folks who celebrated when New York passed a law effectively allowing abortion up until point of birth and who defended Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s perverse statements about late-term abortion. According to these thinkers, conservatives have encroached on a supposed “right to abortion” inherent in the Constitution.

This, of course, is a lie. There is no “right to abortion” in the Constitution. The founders would have been appalled by such a statement. The Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade (1973) is a legal monstrosity by every available metric: As legal scholar John Hart Ely wrote, Roe “is not constitutional law and gives almost no sense of an obligation to try to be.” The court’s rationale is specious; the court relied on the ridiculous precedent in Griswold v. Connecticut (1965) that a broad “right to privacy” can be crafted from “penumbras, formed by emanations.” Then the court extended that right to privacy to include the killing of a third party, an unborn human life — and overrode state definitions of human life in the process.

Report: Flamingo in zoo had to be put down after child threw a rock at it

A Miller Park Zoo flamingo was euthanized Monday after an elementary school student threw a rock inside the animal's exhibit.

A representative from the Bloomington, Illinois zoo told CNN affiliate WMBD the rock broke the flamingo's leg and caused injuries that led to it being put down.

The zoo said it's working with the student's family to make sure this is a learning experience, WMBD reported.

The greater flamingo exhibit at the zoo opened in June 2016, according to the city of Bloomington.

Criminal Justice Academy, Wor-Wic Dispute Negligence Claims

SALISBURY — Officials from the police academy at Wor-Wic Community College last week denied any wrongdoing after a pair of recruits filed suit in March alleging negligence and sexual discrimination after allegedly suffering brain injuries during training.

In March, Cynthia Mowery, a candidate for a full-time position with the Elkton Police Department, and Brian Alexander, a seasonal officer with the OCPD who had been offered a full-time position with the department, filed suit in U.S. District Court against the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy (ESCJA), Wor-Wic Community College, which hosts the academy, the academy’s director and assistant director and tactical defense instructor Barry Smith. The suit alleges Mowery and Alexander each suffered traumatic brain injuries during the boxing segment of the academy’s tactical defense training that left them with permanent neurological and cognitive deficits and ultimately led to them leaving the academy and abandoning potential law enforcement careers.

According to the complaint filed in U.S. District Court in March, Alexander graduated with an associate degree from community college in May 2017 and took a seasonal officer position with the OCPD. A short time later, Alexander was offered a full-time position with the OCPD and was sent to the ESCJA to complete entry-level training. Near the close of the training, Alexander was required to complete a boxing segment of the defense tactics curriculum, during which he was struck in the head. According to the complaint, Alexander then sat on the mat and lost consciousness.

MSNBC’S RACHEL MADDOW’S RATINGS PLUMMET TO YEARLY LOW

MSNBC primetime host Rachel Maddow brought in her worst weekly ratings of the year last week.

Her show last week averaged 2,324,000 viewers, with an average audience of 337,000 in the 25-54 age demographic, both of which mark yearly lows for the liberal television host, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Maddow first saw a dramatic drop in ratings following the conclusion of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. Her previous low for a week in 2019 was the last week in March, the first full week after Mueller submitted his conclusion to Attorney General William Barr, where she averaged 2,458,000 viewers with 392,000 in the demo.

Study: 75 American Colleges Offer Black-Only Graduation Ceremonies

A study by the National Association of Scholars revealed that at least 75 American colleges have black-only graduation ceremonies and 43 percent of surveyed colleges offer segregated residential halls. The organization refers to this as “neo-segregation.”

According to a study by the National Association of Scholars, graduation ceremonies at American universities are becoming increasingly segregated.

The study revealed that as many as 75 total colleges segregated graduation ceremonies. And that’s not all. 43 percent of the colleges included in the study offer segregated residential halls.

What we found was that neo-segregation is widespread if not pervasive. About 46 percent (80 colleges out of 173 surveyed) segregate student orientation programs; 43 percent (75 colleges out of the total) offer segregated residential arrangements; and 72 percent (125 colleges out of the total) segregate graduation ceremonies. Though these arrangements are ostensibly voluntary, students can’t easily opt out. We tracked numerous indicators of neo-segregation, from “Diversity Fly-Ins,” (68 percent of the total) where colleges offer minority students an expense-paid segregated preview of the experience that awaits them should they enroll, to segregated alumni groups.

Here's why Harriet Tubman won't appear on the $20 bill next year

WASHINGTON (ABC7) — In 2016, then-Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew decided to make Harriet Tubman the new face of the $20 bill.

Today, however, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced a reversal to that decision.

Mnuchin, appearing before the House Financial Servies Committee on Wednesday, said the update of the $20 bill would most likely be postponed to 2026.
