Fox News Channel is top basic cable network in April; CNN ratings plummet

Fox News Channel dominated basic cable for the month of April, beating news, sports, and entertainment networks in total day and primetime viewers, while rival news channel CNN continued to shed its audience.

According to Nielsen Media Research, FNC garnered 2.4 million viewers in primetime and finished first among all basic cable stations for the third month in a row, and 1.4 million viewers in total day to top basic cable for the 34th consecutive month.

For the 208th month in a row, FNC also beat left-leaning CNN and MSNBC across both categories, while CNN marked its lowest-rated month in total day viewers since October 2015, and since August 2015 in the key demographic of viewers age 25-54.

Kirsten Gillibrand wants to give everyone 600 'Democracy Dollars'

2020 contender Kirsten Gillibrand, currently polling negligibly in a crowded presidential primary field, has released a policy proposal that’s making waves today: give every eligible citizen a taxpayer-subsidized 600 “Democracy Dollars” to donate towards political candidates, with $200 each designated for the presidential race, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. This, she says, is a move towards “clean elections,” because “every American’s voice should be as loud as the Koch Brothers.’”

Let’s examine that. Very few Americans give more than $200 towards presidential candidates (with a maximum allowable donation of $2,700). And the ones who do tend to be disproportionately richer. But Gillibrand’s proposal is a terrible way to level the field and to undo the problems that money in politics creates.

Why? First, it would simply multiply the amount of money in politics by an order of magnitude, with effects that wouldn’t be good for the political system at large, but would be good for ad buyers and PR flacks and political operatives. It was reported in 2017 that election watchdog Open Secrets put the final total pricetag of America’s 2016 political races for the presidency, Senate, and House of Representatives at roughly $6.5bn.

State lawmaker wants to ban people from using food stamps to buy junk food

If one Texas lawmaker has his way, people on food stamps in the Lone Star state will be banned from using using their benefits to buy energy drinks, soda, cookies, candy or potato chips.

Rep. Briscoe Cain recently proposed legislation seeking to take junk food out of low-income shopping carts, saying he's concerned that poor eating habits among those getting food benefits are leading to health troubles. The measure "seeks to curb the spread of diabetes and other health complications among Texas in at-risk populations by eliminating sugary drinks and snacks from the state's nutrition assistance program," the Republican state representative said, according to local media outlets.

The proposed bill defines "energy drink" as a beverage containing at least 65 milligrams of caffeine per eight fluid ounces. Coffee would still allowed, as would fruit and vegetable juice.

Trinity Prof.: "Whiteness Is Terrorism", Slams Obamas As "White 'Kneegrows"

Trinity College professor is in hot water after tweeting “whiteness is terrorism."
Professor of Sociology Johnny Eric Williams followed that tweet with another saying, “all self-identified white people (no exceptions) are invested in and collude with systematic white racism/white supremacy.”

The professor has since made his account private but the tweets can be seen on The Hartford Courant.

Williams also called out former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama. According to the Hartford Courant, he said,

“I’m referring to [Turning Point USA leader Candace Owens'] other and less brazen but more insidious dangerous ‘white’ kneegrows like Barry and Michelle Obama and many other white kneegrows you encounter daily.”

Police Seek Information on Eagle, Owl Poisonings

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and Maryland Natural Resources Police are asking the public for information about a series of poisoning events on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Kent and Talbot counties.

The first incident, occurring in Kent County on March 1 near Route 445 and Swan Creek Road in Chestertown resulted in the deaths of six bald eagles, a great horned owl and significant injuries to other eagles that were rescued and treated. The activity is consistent with the suspected on-going and intentional poisoning of foxes, raccoons and other nuisance animals in the area. USFWS agents and Natural Resources Police officers have returned to the area on several occasions since the initial incident and retrieved eagle carcasses that were discovered and reported by local land owners and property managers.

On April 3, authorities were called to a farm in Talbot County, near Lewistown Road and Colby Road in Cordova, where they discovered three bald eagles showing signs of poisoning. The eagles had been feeding on a red fox carcass. Two of the eagles were treated for poisoning and are in stable condition. One of the eagles died at the scene.

It is suspected that these events are related as a result of unknown persons placing baits laced with carbofuran, one of the most toxic carbamate pesticides, in fields, along woods lines and even directly into fox dens. Carbofuran, sold under the trade name Furadan, is known to be particularly toxic to birds. In its granular form, a single grain will kill a bird. Birds often eat numerous grains of the pesticide, mistaking them for seeds, and then die shortly thereafter. Before the granular form was banned by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1991, it was blamed for millions of bird deaths per year. The liquid version of the pesticide is less hazardous to birds since they are not as likely to ingest it directly, but it is still very lethal when placed into bait.

The USFWS and NRP are urging anyone with relevant and specific information to come forward. Eagles probably are not the primary target of the poisoning. However, Furadan is so toxic that the eagles are secondarily poisoned after feeding on the poisoned primary target. The incident in Kent County was different than the eagle deaths in that an owl, typically not a scavenger, was killed. The USFWS believes that whoever was placing the poisoned baits did it so recklessly that the poison was likely lying out in the open for any animal or person to find.

The USFWS and NRP are both disappointed and frustrated that this activity continues to occur in this area of Maryland, noting that thirteen eagles had been poisoned under similar circumstances back in February 2016 near Federalsburg, Maryland. There are legal methods and means of dealing with nuisance predators. This appears to be a problem systemic to Maryland and specifically to the northern Delmarva Peninsula. The USFWS and NRP have interviewed numerous persons including land owners, hunters and other persons associated with these areas. However, none of the individuals were able to provide any information on the poisonings. Resident Agent in Charge Jay Pilgrim, who supervises USFWS efforts in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Delaware, said this is a problem unique to this area of Maryland. Pilgrim said, “It is hard to believe that not one person has information of persons placing a toxic poison that has killed no fewer than twenty eagles in these areas. The only way this stops is if the local communities come forward with information.” Although bald eagles are no longer listed under the Endangered Species Act, they are still federally protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. The USFWS is offering a reward of up to $10,000 to eligible individuals for information that furthers this investigation.

Global Warming Going the way of Russia Collusion

The last thing we expect mid-spring is snow. Yet that’s just what we have. As theWeather Channel reports, “It may be late April, but Winter Storm Xyler will make you forget that it is spring in the Midwest this weekend as it is expected to bring some unusually heavy late season snowfall.”

Snow is heading to New York as well, despite the state’s all-out effort to combat global warming by attempting to ban plastic straws and now hot dogs. From theNew York Post, “Upstate NY may get up to 3 inches of snow this weekend.”

Across the country in Denver, the weather won’t be much different, as The Denver Channel reports, “Mild through the weekend, cold, rain and snow next week!” What’s going on? I thought the planet was heating up, with melting icecaps, rising sea levels, and less than 12 years before the earth burns to a crisp?

7-time deported criminal alien from Mexico sentenced in Iowa to 21 months in federal prison for unlawfully possessing a firearm

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — A seven-time deported criminal alien from Mexico, living in northeastern Iowa, was sentenced Friday to nearly two years in federal prison for being an illegal alien and drug user unlawfully possessing a firearm.

This sentence resulted from an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Sioux City Police Department.

Luis Alberto DeLoera-Serna, 40, a Mexican man who is illegally present in the United States, was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand, after pleading guilty on Jan. 11, 2019. He was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison on one count of possessing a firearm by a prohibited person; he must also serve a two-year term of supervised release after he completes his prison term.

Evidence produced at the change of plea and sentencing hearings revealed DeLoera-Serna was not only an alien illegally in the United States, and drug user who possessed a firearm, but he was also an armed drug dealer with a criminal history. That history included domestic violence, traffic offenses, and seven illegal re-entries into the United States.

Depending on an alien’s criminality, an alien who re-enters the United States after having been previously deported commits a felony punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison, if convicted.

There is no parole in the federal system. DeLoera-Serna is currently in U.S. Marshal’s custody pending his transfer to a federal prison.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Forde Fairchild, Northern District of Iowa.

Leftist Comedian Comes Clean: "Nothing Is Free... Especially College"

Leftist comedian Bill Maher challenged liberals over the weekend on his HBO show "Real Time with Bill Maher" on a key 2020 issue: free college.

Unlike many in his party, though, Maher challenged the conventional thinking of "free college," pointing out that it would only hurt the poor.

Maher's comment came just days after 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren outlined her plan to offer "free" four-year college through raising some taxes. At least two more Democrat 2020 presidential candidates, Sen. Kamala Harris of California and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, have also indicated they support the idea of "free" four-year college.

The Real "Bombshells" Are About To Hit Their Targets

The next bombshell report to drop from the Justice Department likely will earn none of the breathless fanfare and media coverage that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report received, but it could be far more incriminating.

In the next several weeks, Inspector General Michael Horowitz is expected to issue his summation of the potential abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act by top officials in the Obama Administration and holdovers in the early Trump Administration who were overseeing the investigation of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

And the perpetrators of the so-called FISAgate scandal now are scrambling for cover as the bad news looms.

Horowitz announced last March that his office would examine the Justice Department’s conduct “in applications filed with the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) relating to a certain U.S. person.” That U.S. person is Trump campaign associate Carter Page. In October 2016, just two weeks before the presidential election, the Justice Department submitted an application to the FISC seeking authorization to wiretap Page. The court filing accused Page, a Naval Academy graduate and unpaid campaign advisor, of being an agent of Russia.

'I Was One Block Away From Killing Myself'

When Acie Burleson encountered Jesus Christ as his Savior, he learned about the Biblical command to deny himself, take up his cross, and follow the Lord as Matthew 16:24 states. Years later, he says he's heard from God and has started a journey to literally carry the cross all the way to the Grand Canyon.

"The moment that I gave my life to God, my life was radically changed, and that's what makes this walk kind of easy -- is Jesus," Burleson shared in a recent video on Facebook. "Jesus is amazing."

The 34-year-old has left his home in Andrews, South Carolina, and since March 11th he's been traveling from town to town on back roads carrying a wooden cross he built.

"When I got saved, God called me out to be a walking memorial for Him," he said. "I've never done a long distance like this before. Most of the time it was just town to town. This is the big one. I'm going all out."

Since the start of his journey, he has been sharing the gospel of Christ along the way, telling people to "pray and be ready for the coming of Christ."

He has multiple stories of miracles so far, including a woman being saved from suicide.

"There was a woman driving and she was just looking at me, so I waved like 'Hello' and kept walking. She then cut me off and is just falling out of her window weeping and crying," Burleson told the Carolina News and Reporter.

U.S. Border Patrol Agents Apprehend Two Huge Groups of Illegal Aliens in New Mexico Tuesday Morning

SUNLAND PARK/ANTELOPE WELLS, N.M. – U.S. Border Patrol agents working in New Mexico apprehended several large groups between midnight and sunrise on Tuesday. These groups, like many others before, are comprised primarily of Central American families and unaccompanied juveniles.

Agents encountered a group of what seemed to be over 400 illegal aliens in Sunland Park just after midnight. Border Patrol agents were able to apprehend all the aliens. In just a few hours the total number taken into custody in the Sunland Park area was 424.

While dealing with this influx of people in the Sunland Park area U.S. Border Patrol agents working at Camp Bounds Forward Operating Base at the Antelope Wells Port of Entry, arrested a large group of 230 illegal aliens around 2 a.m. This group was also comprised primarily of Central American families and unaccompanied juveniles.

This is an ongoing situation that U.S Border Patrol agents are facing in southern New Mexico: hundreds of parents and children being encountered by agents after having faced a dangerous journey in the hands of unscrupulous smugglers.

Criminal organizations continue to exploit innocent human lives in order to enhance their illicit activities without due regard to the risks of human life. In most cases these smugglers never cross the border themselves in order to avoid apprehension.

Virginia judge rules Charlottesville confederate statues are war monuments protected by state law

A Virginia judge has ruled that statues of Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson in Charlottesville are war monuments that the city cannot remove without permission from the state.

In a nine-page ruling obtained from the University of Virginia School of Law website, Circuit Court Judge Richard E. Moore said neither the intentions of the people who erected the statues nor how they make people feel change the fact that the statues pay homage to the Civil War. Moore cited state code in his ruling that says it is illegal for municipalities to remove such monuments to war.

“I find this conclusion inescapable,” Moore said. “It is the very reason the statues have been complained about from the beginning. It does no good pretending they are something other than what they actually are.”

Hundreds To Lose Jobs After Luke Paper Mill Closing In Western Maryland

LUKE, Md. (WJZ) — A paper mill in Western Maryland is shutting its doors leaving hundreds without jobs.

Verso announced Tuesday it would close its paper mill in the town of Luke in Allegany County after a decline in the demand for “grades of coated freesheet paper produced at the mill, along with rising input costs, a significant influx of imports, and rising compliance costs and infrastructure challenges associated with recent environmental regulation changes.”

The mill will close on June 30. It will reduce the company’s coated freesheet production capacity by 450,000 tons and its total annual production of the paper by 2.7 million tons.

“It is unfortunate that we had to make the decision to close the Luke Mill, but the continuing decline in demand for the grades of paper manufactured there left us no choice but to close this facility that has struggled with profitability for a number of years,” said Verso Interim Chief Executive Officer Leslie T. Lederer.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO DESIGNATE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD AS TERRORIST ORGANIZATION

Islamic group frequented Obama’s White House dozens of times

Notably, Democrat leadership, particularly former President Obama, had a more than friendly relationship with the Muslim organization in the aftermath of the U.S.-backed Arab Spring that saw the overthrow of then-Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
