Wicomico Seeking Input On Calendars With Pre-Labor Day, Post-Labor Day Start

SALISBURY – Parents of students in Wicomico County’s public school system will be asked to comment on two proposed school calendars for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Last week, the Wicomico County Board of Education approved on first reading two proposed school calendars for the 2020-2021 academic year.

“I would like to share with you some of the similarities and some of the differences between the two,” said Kim Miles, assistant superintendent for student and family services, “just as points of focus.”

In the first version of the school calendar, Draft A, the academic year would begin on Aug. 31 and end on June 9. In the second version, Draft B, the academic year would begin on Sept. 8 and end on June 14.

  1. I thought Gov. Hogan signed legislation to "Keep Summer Summer" - What happened to that? Maybe I missed something but Ocean City pushed that really hard to rake in more money - did something change?

  2. Here’s my input. Remove all the child sex predictors out of the schools?

You did and the Democrats passed legislation to allow school districts to decide when they want to have school begin which means they all want schools to open before Labor Day.

A survey was done by the Comptrollers Office and over 70% of the citizens wanted schools to end after Labor Day so the Governor allowed that.

The Democraps passed legislation to reverse the Governors decision and the Governor vetoed it and the Democraps overrode his Veto. The Democraps are nasty people in this country and they don't care about the citizens or the voters. They only care about special interest groups like the teacher's unions who always endorse Democraps!

    Vote Republican! Always vote Republican!

  4. Everyone should contact the schools and tell them they should have schools start after Labor Day.

This shouldn't be an option and the elected Board of Education members should have put a stop to these two options. They are trying to make you feel that you have a say when in fact you don't because they are going to do what they want.

YOU, each and every one of you, have the option to remove these elected school members out of office and you can start with Tonya Laird Lewis because she is coming up for "re-election" in November of 2020. Please get someone to run against her. She has already filed to run.

  5. Lets get one thing straight right here and now!!!! All of this crap is for control of your kids life, more taxes and the budget for the schools, nothing less!!! The longer the kid is in school, these ass hats can endocrine your kids with nonsense, Also, the longer kids are in school, more money for the budget will be needed for breakfast, lunch, and supplies let alone electric and water and sewer and all of that!!! OH and salaries, gotta have salaries paid even though these dumb kids are getting dumber!!!! Then they will need to raise taxes on you to cover the cost...

Let me ask you all this, What are the kids gaining from being in school longer??? Are they getting smarter? NO, are they learning more curriculum? NO are they getting everything done per the curriculum in the first place from the time they go to school and leave? NO!!!!! So again I ask what do you morons think they want kids to go to school longer for!!!!

  6. Schools are open 180 days a year. Starting schools before Labor Day just gives them more random days off through out the year disrupting parents schedules
