House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) offered a bizarre justification Thursday for ignoring House rules requiring him to allow Republicans to call witnesses: it did not say he had to do so on a particular day.
The existing resolution authorizing the impeachment inquiry, H. Res. 660, allows the Ranking Member of the committee to call witnesses — subject to the approval of the chair and a majority vote by the whole committee.
Failing that, Republicans invoked House of Representatives Rule XI 12(j)(1), which requires the chairs of House committees to allow the members of the minority party to hold a full day of hearings featuring their own witnesses.
The full rule reads:
Whenever a hearing is conducted by a committee on a measure or matter, the minority members of the committee shall be entitled, upon request to the chair by a majority of them before the completion of the hearing, to call witnesses selected by the minority to testify with respect to that measure or matter during at least one day of hearing thereon.
But on Thursday morning, when Ranking Member Doug Collins (R-GA) raised the issue as a point of order, Nadler offered several reasons for sidestepping the rule.
Reading from a prepared text, Nadler argued: “The House rule does not require me to schedule a hearing on a particular day, nor does it require me to schedule the hearing as a condition precedent to taking any specific legislative action.”

Clearly now ALL can see why allowing congress men and women to have totally amunity from any rules or laws....is a very big mistake. No accountability is exactly why we are in this mess. Its no wonder why most are so corrupt. Imagine now what the squad, supported by terrorist nations can and will do to us. Have we lost our minds to allow this to continue?
ReplyDeleteWhat a circus!!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, there is nothing wrong.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Maldives located
Is Nadler the same guy who rules on pass-interference challenge replays?? It seems like he makes the rules as it goes along.
ReplyDelete9:29 I agree, but the question is: what can we do about it? They have all the power, make all the laws, make all their own rules, vote on their own pay increases and length of tenure, etc.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, WE THE PEOPLE need to remove that power away from the 400 congressman and 100 senators. The POTUS is the only office that seems to be under checks-and-balance scrutiny.
I wish a strong, brave man like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was still around to bring change to this corrupt government this country has created. God bless his sole.
The liberals blame the Electoral College for election issues, but congressional term limits are the biggest issue creating immoral congressmen like Nadler, Waters, Schumer and Pelosi.
Did you really suggest Martin king would be the one to weed out wrongdoing? Bwahahahahahaha, you go too far with the comedy!
DeleteNadler is the representation of SCUM OF THE EARTH!
ReplyDeleteHouse Rules Don't Apply Period because they are NOT in
ReplyDeleteconformity with Court Rules & Law & use congress to
SKIRT around the Law & Real Court Rules !!!!!
Fits the narrative. Remember Pelosi said we had to pass it to see what was in it. The party of bass akwards.
ReplyDeleteNadler is nothing but a piece of Democrat garbage that has been in Congress way too long. He is a poster child for Congressional term limits. He is what a lifetime in Congress turns into. Power-hungry corruption. They are sweating bullets over Trump, as he is exposing Washington for what it is, and what it has become. Their biggest fear is not only that he will win a second term in a landslide (think Reagan in 1984), and his agenda will be terms limits on the corrupt politicians in Congress. Congress KNOWS America is all for term limits on Congress, and it scares the crap out of them. That and SCOTUS turning conservative for the next 50 years. No more liberal appeals courts legislating from the bench and not being addressed by SCOTUS. Nope, Dems are desperate and scared. It explains their obsession with Trump and their TDS that is compelling them to act crazy and doing nothing in the nation's interest.
