Is College 'Worth It'? One Study Says Maybe Not

The unjustifiably high cost of college tuition in the US has dragged a whole generation into debt slavery. The average cost of a 4-year degree in the US is 3x higher than it was in 1990. Even tuition at in-state schools is climbing more quickly than incomes.

As more people are forced to go into deep levels of debt to afford an education, more would-be students are being forced to take a hard look and reevaluate the ROI on a college degree.

And as college tuition continues to outpace wage growth, for a growing number of people, the answer to 'is college worth it?' is going to be no.

A reporter at Clever.com did some digging, and tabulated the ROI on different types of degrees: the bachelor's, master's and doctorate.

  3. College today - NO. College today is nothing but party, drink, drugs, party some more, go out and demonstrate because you don't like whatever is happening that day, go to the safe place they have for you if your feelings get hurt, so you can pout, then start all over again. Answer once again, Hell NO.

  4. For some the degree is worth getting. May not be worth the price, but that is the game we play. If you do not have a plan and you are going to college to "find yourself" or to party it certainly is not worth it and even dangerous with the liberal envasion. However, some are going for good things and we should be glad that they do. Agreed - not everyone needs a college degree. I do want my doctors and engineers to have one.

  5. True, not everyone is college material. But there are a lot of jobs on the job search sites that require a degree when you really shouldn't need a degree to do the job described.

  6. Given most kids come out not being able to support themselves, do you really think college is worth it? Seriously?
