FROSTBURG, Maryland — Ten people were injured Sunday afternoon in a series of collisions involving 58 vehicles on Interstate 68 in northeastern Garrett County, Md.
The westbound lanes were shut down for more than four hours as State Police investigated 29 separate crashes in a one-mile stretch near Finzel. The lanes reopened shortly before 5 p.m., troopers said.
The McHenry barrack was alerted to the report of multiple vehicles crashing on I-68 at 12:37 p.m. Sunday.

ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that.
I-68 can get scary. Fog and very stupid people don't mix.
That Finzel exit area is the scene of many pileups over the years. I have a relative that lives just off that exit, and have made many visits over the years. The top of that mountain gets down to ZERO viability in the pea soup fog that envelopes it. Been there, and it is really scary. You can't go more than 5 MPH because you can't see, and you just wait for someone to come barreling into you. There's nowhere to pull over off the road, and you don't know it's fogbound until you get up there. Its been a deathtrap on many occasions.
