Trump announces ‘permanent’ cease-fire in Syria, lifts US sanctions on Turkey

President Trump on Wednesday announced he is removing sanctions against Turkey after Ankara made its five-day ceasefire “permanent” in its fight against Kurdish forces in Syria.

“I have, therefore, instructed the secretary of the treasury to lift all sanctions imposed Oct. 14 in response to Turkey’s original offensive moves against the Kurds,” Trump said.

“So the sanctions will be lifted unless something happens that we’re not happy with,” he added, noting that “permanent in that part of the world” can be defined as “questionable.”

  1. despite all of the criticism he took, it looks like the move he made was the only possible one considering how complex the situation was. Yet another campaign promise met...

  2. Keep believing the nonsense. This is NOT a ceasefire. Turkey with Russian/Syrian support have took the former Kurdish strategic positions up by force and secured the area. This was done after the US encouraged the Kurds to take down their defenses in good faith with the political reconciliation process, then the US bolted on them. Now the Kurds have the choice of either leaving or face death. Thats far from a ceasefire, thats called defeat.

You are free to have whatever political opinion on this you want. But atleast base the opinion off the facts.
