MSNBC contributor and former Watergate prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks presented a way to remove President Trump from office and pave the way for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to assume the Oval Office: impeach Vice President Mike Pence first and offer the president a deal.
Joining the network's AM Joy on Saturday, Wine-Banks was asked if Congress should look to impeach Trump first or turn their eyes to Pence instead. In response, she suggested going after Pence first and giving Trump the option to either replace him before being impeached himself — so that a Republican can remain in the White House — or decline and let Pelosi take over.
"You could impeach Pence first," Wine-Banks stated. "The problem is that Donald Trump then has to name his replacement. But I think that maybe a deal could be struck where he was told, 'If you don’t make a replacement, then Nancy Pelosi does become president. And so, you are going to be impeached and convicted. You need to make this replacement so that the proper party remains in power.'"

ReplyDeleteSit down and shut up 12:39. Your phantom "well armed revolt" would last about 30 seconds. Just about the time it would take you to run back to your mama's basement to change your wet pants.
ReplyDelete2:40 Nah I think 12:39 is spot on. You’ll be the one on the wrong side when it comes.
DeleteAgree with 4:36

ReplyDeleteJerk lawyer; her career highlight was cross examining Nixon's secretary circa 1974.
By that time the XXV (25th Amendment) had been ratified, in 1967, and was in effect. It addresses what happens if there is a VP vacancy, which happened twice, in 1973 and in 1974.
When Spiro Agnew resigned as VP in 1973, Nixon selected Gerald Ford as VP and he was confirmed.
When Nixon resigned in 1974, Ford moved up to President and he selected Nelson Rockefeller as VP and he was confirmed.
So absent a catastrophe that leaves vacancies in both President and VP at the same moment, any Speaker of the House has very little chance of succeeding to the presidency, unless they were appointed VP prior to a presidential vacancy. That could happen but its a pretty good bet no President would appoint anyone from a rival party to the VP job.
Wishful thinking.
Dream on, seabiscuit.
