ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — Beaudouin Tchakounte was driving for Uber on the night of Aug. 27 in Oxon Hill, Maryland, when he and passenger Casey Xavier Robinson were fatally shot inside the 2015 silver Mercedes-Benz, Prince George’s County Police said.
Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy announced Sept. 26 that Aaron Wilson Jr. of Fort Washington, Maryland, was indicted on two counts of common law murder, two counts of use of a firearm in a crime of violence and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the deaths.
If convicted, Wilson could be sentenced to a maximum of two life sentences plus 40 years, according to Braveboy’s office. Wilson had requested a shared ride via Uber, police said.

Wasn't anyone told about getting into a strangers car?

8:30 We were told to not to talk to strangers and never get in their car. Now everything thinks it's a good idea!
Every one of these concerns raised apply to regular taxis as well, public transportation, or just general storefront actually.
ReplyDeleteRide share like uber and lyft are, I think, very safe. Riders AND drivers have ratings given out by their respective riders and drivers. Getting an uber or lyft is SO much easier than a taxi... you get real time data on where they are, where you are, how much it will cots... everything about it is better than a cab.
9:00 This is not getting in the car with a stranger, it's a business transaction, just like going into any sort of storefront. There have been robberies and shooting in storefronts.. but we don't stop using them do we? There is danger and risk everywhere... even if it is extremely low and most places, people or rides are very safe.
I think this is more about people being intimidated by change, and by technology.
