SANDY CREEK, N.Y. -- The dust cleared and the cheers faded after the second heat of the Oswego County Fair demolition derby, and a battered vehicle revved its engine in celebration.
It was a PT Cruiser, and it had just crushed seven opponents into scrap metal.
The Cruiser — built by Chrysler and often considered one of the ugliest cars ever made — is finding new life, and getting its revenge, at demolition derbies across New York State, according to derby organizers and participants.
The ample rear-end that drew confused looks in the car’s brief heyday makes it ideal for crushing enemies in this new stage of its life, demolition derby enthusiasts say.
