In Montgomery County, Maryland, 54,196 school bus safety citations were issued last school year, police say.
This year, officials are looking to lower that number.
Students statewide went back to class on Tuesday, and it's the first year that all the county's school buses will be equipped with safety cameras that can capture images of drivers who don't stop when the buses are dropping off and picking up children, according to the police department.
Negligent drivers will receive a civil citation with a fine starting at $250, but penalties can go up to $500.

Got one last year. From a camera. The picture was of a black SUV. I drive white pickup. The tag was shown clearly, and it wasn't even close to mine. I fought it and won. I feel it's a scam. They treated my like I was guilty, and I had to prove my innocence. I feel that they were hoping I would just pay it and shut up
ReplyDeleteThey didn’t have the technology in operation last year but it could have been a drone. Did the cops bring the drone to court so you could question it? Good job fighting back homie.
DeleteYou want to lower that number? Have the bus driver pull off to a side street once in a while to get rid of the line of cars behind them! Have some courtesy to people WITHOUT kids that pay your salary whether we like it or not!
ReplyDeleteHaving one group take complete priority over another is tyranny and discrimination!
How about devising some rules to SHARE the road!
Kinda sounds like things are out of control in Montgomery County. Must be run by DEMOCRATS.
ReplyDeletePeople need to go to jail for this.
ReplyDeleteSanctuary county. People should be able to just do what they want if they're going to let illegals do what they want.

ReplyDeleteI would also add not stopping a the front door of every child boarding or discharging along a given length of street. Not displaying the stop sign at stops where the child boarding or discharging does not cross the street.

7:59 I agree 100%. There should be one stop where the school children in the neighborhood gather each morning and board the bus. Not every house. It's insane that the line of traffic stops at every house. Get out of you pj's and slippers and walk the kids to the bus stop. Tired of it.
ReplyDeleteIt actually is really aggravating when the buses stop at almost every house on any given road. What happened to bus stops; all the kids meet at that one stop and get on and off. Makes more sense to me but then it worked so they had to fix it.
ReplyDeleteI live in an area where the road in front is 50 mph, people go 60-70 mph in front of my house. I am scared to go to the mailbox because I have nearly been hit (there is a lot of space between my mailbox and the road too).
ReplyDeleteI get up at 5 to be at work by 7:00 with kids in tow as well. You know school is starting, you know the buses are out, so Leave Earlier!! I have not been late and I get stuck behind them every day.
I have seen people fly by the stopped bus going 45-50 in a 25 MPH zone and nearly hit a child at the day care. They didn't even slow down. Stop your whining snowflakes and PREPARE BETTER in the morning!
Nanticoke RD is horrible in the morning from the school busses because they only do 40mph in the 50mph zone. Actually all streets in that area the buss does 10 miles below the speed limit.
ReplyDeleteThere are some busses that will pull over every so often but most just sludge along on their slow pace while the rest of us get stuck behind them.
Some say leave early but my time is money and I can be as much as 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule if I stay behind the busses.
As for frequent stops I can say it was brutal when the road was washed out last year down Nanticoke Rd. The Busses on Crooked Oak would stop at each house. This was a rural area and plenty of places to use as a bus stop but instead the bus would go house to house. As soon as it turned off its red flashing lights and retracted the stop sign it had its yellow lights on again for the very next house.
They should equip the buses with red flashing lights that CAN'T be activated unless the bus is STOPPED. I've seen bus drivers riding down the road with the RED lights flashing while still driving down the road. But Montgomery County...it doesn't surprise me. Red light cameras, speed cameras, sanctuary County, and now bus cameras. Welcome to what socialism looks like.
