Harris Announces Anti-Crime Grant to Salisbury
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $24,347 federal grant to the City of Salisbury. The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice and the funds will be dispersed through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.
The JAG program allows local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on local needs. According to the Department of Justice, these grant funds can be used for “state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following program areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs” and “8) mental health programs and related law enforcement and corrections programs.”
Rep. Andy Harris made the following statement:
“As a member of the Committee on Appropriations, I applaud the award of this grant to the City of Salisbury. I support our local law enforcement and understand that the safety and security of our families and local communities is a top priority.”
It won't help.
ReplyDeleteWonder what the money will be used for since there is no crime in da bury!
ReplyDelete"MISAPPROPRIATION" as soon as Day gets his hands on it!! He's already proven salisbury's police department isn't priority!
ReplyDeleteCan’t control crime if babs won’t let officers do their jobs. They need to start with the criminals in their administration first.
ReplyDeleteI thought there was no crime in Salisbury? Give that money back!
ReplyDeleteRep Harris has done a good deed that is drastically needed in Salisbury. It is a shame the Police do not care and do not do their jobs on stopping crime, gang activity that has increased drastically in the last 10 years, drug enforcement is a no show in the City limits. I hope there are strict guidelines and strict supervision of these funds distribution outside of the City of Salisbury Administration and Police Chief. It will misappropriated as soon as it reaches Salisbury accounting office. It has already been designated for other areas. This grant should have been given to the Sheriff's Office, WCSO, for proper distribution and usage.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sure it will be put to good use.
ReplyDeleteHelping to pay for the Forked Festival... why, if everybody is listening to good folk music, the crime rate will drop like a rock, won't it? Those good vibes will just settle those bad guys right down.
Try it-- you'll see-- just sing along with me..
"Even though we ain't got money,
I'm so in love with you honey.."
;-)
@7:45 are you nuts?? Harris' main objective is to give out free grant money so it seems yet salisbury just gets worse and worse. Everyone knows Jake Day will not use these funds for what they are appropriated for. His blatant lies and misuse of city/federal funds should already been investigated and prosecuted.
ReplyDeleteShame on you Andy Harris, that grant should have gone to the Sheriff's Department. WTF are you caving into Jake Day for?
