ReplyDelete1987 I would be in the 5th grade. Glen Ave. They would be re- tarring the roof on this day. I still love that smell. The pizza was awesome. Lisa, who sat across the table, we add assigned lunch tables, she hated it and would be me hers in exchange for my corn, that they always served together. I would later move to Bel Air. Their pizza was not as good, but I got in the habit of dipping it in ketchup.

ReplyDeleteBest spaghetti I ever ate was served by the lunch ladies at JMB, circa 1971.
ReplyDeleteIN THE '60s Worcester County did not have a central kitchen and Pocomoke HS had real lunch ladies who made real food fresh every day. We had real subs on Tuesday, real pizza on Wednesday but frozen fish sticks on Friday. The price was 30 cents for full lunch or 15 cents for a freshly made sandwich. Except for the fish sticks it was food heaven!

ReplyDeleteBack in the 1950s and 1960s, school lunches were better than what our Mom put on the table, bless her departed soul; the kitchen wasn't a good place for her. I always had a part time job and spent a lot of the cash on school lunches.
ReplyDeleteIn the late sixties and early seventies Delmar High School had Wildcat Tuna served on a big roll.
ReplyDeleteThey always sold out. I have never figured out what their secret ingredient was but it was the best.
Their homemade peanut butter cookies also were a big hit. Those ladies knew how to make a great lunch!
Early 80's had to have a salt shaker....lots of garlic too!
