A Viewer Writes..... I smell desperation

Less than 2 days away and they are still begging for volunteers to beg for money with the Begging Brigade. If they need money to make the 'Festival possible' then why is Jake Day gambling with our tax dollars!! Now he has the media begging with them for volunteers. I smell desperation!

80 comments:

  1. So the event is free, except that they want you to throw in a "suggested $10 donation"...so what, if only a few thousand people show up (like last year) and they don't raise enough in donations to cover the cost...who, exactly, is on the hook to pay for this?

Does Jake really think the visitor from Baltimore, after paying for gas and a place to stay (and the over-priced crap food truck food) is going to happily shell out another 10 bucks to his "bucket brigade"?

    This is suck a joke.

  2. Ive been told the bucket brigade has a $10 minimum donation request.

  3. Tell em o yo Wal-Mart north. Lots of professional beggars there, and they work for food. Haha

  5. Hey Jake, the 2 guys pan-handling near the mall will volunteer it if you give them a sandwich

This isn't the point. The fact of the matter is Jake(you) and his goons have had well over a year to prepare for this event and now they are still begging for volunteers!! WTH!! These people should have been on the schedule already weeks ago.

This just goes to show you that Jake Day and his staff are nothing more than a bunch of misfits that couldn't effectively run a Kool Aid stand!!

  12. So what has Caroline O'Hare been doing the past year and a half? She has proven that she is a complete failure, like her husband, and should have never been hired for the job.

If you remember correctly she was nothing but an office secretary at Wicomico Day school and again Jake Day hired one of his Progressive buddies.

Sadly the voters of this city don't know what the Hell is going on and will still support this idiot and vote for him.

I get it, it's free just like Crime is down in Salisbury. Wink, Wink!

    Admission
The National Folk Festival is a FREE event—you can enjoy the performances, the Maryland Traditions Folklife Area & Stage, and the Pohanka Family Area at no cost. Food, drink and merchandise are available for sale.

  26. Positive attitude is a key part of any success in life, but after watching Jake day constantly taking selfies, posing for pictures and listening to him I pray this will be the worst outcome possible for him and Salisbury. Anyone stupid enough to continually lie about crime and cover up violence and not use necessary resources to ensure public safety needs to fail and fail in a big way. Jake day has another chance and if this festival turns out like the local festival attempt this will be a victory for many of us that are sick of day and his childish behavior

No it is NOT standard procedure. It became a procedure when a town our size took this on and could not pay for it

Another jake koolaid drinker spreading non truths.

If you had 1/2 a brain you would have googled it and found the article where the town said they had no choice but to beg for money to pay for it.

That alone tells you this is not a sustainable event any longer and it needs to be examined.

Bethlehem PA has a 10 music festival that is FREE and no one begs you for money.

Wake up snowflake and leave Smallsbury on occasion.

Who else would know this is "standard procedure everywhere the NFF is held" unless you were intimately connected to the "NFF" like Jake or Caroline?

It's good to know that Jake Day and his miscreants read this blog because I know it stresses them out and takes years off their lives every time they see their name or department mentioned on the blog! ROTFLMAO, I'm Digging it!

  30. As a resident of Wicomico County, I would hope that the County not participate in or spend any monies on this. I don't want to see any county employee involved in this. The City wants it, let them foot the bill. There other needs within the County that need to be addressed. Does anyone know if John Cannon allotted money in the county budget for this Ghetto Fest?

John Cannon is the president of the county council and he was on PAC 14 last night reminding everyone to attend the Folk Festival during his presidential comments. The County should stay out of this mess and give Jake Day all the glory. Don't do it!

  34. What a joke. How about bringing real jobs here that will stay. Enough of the feel-good arts crap, just throwing away money. We need good infrastructure and stability in the job market not fly by night party games. What a joke Jake Day is. Only an idiot would cast a vote for this clown.

  35. The cost to pull this off is unbelievable. Someone should hit up Jake and ask for the figures and tell him to answer Wayne King's FOIA before the election.

Build and set up all the stages and all the material to build them
Sanitation / Trash / Clean up event sites and city surroundings
    Staff to run the event
    Restrooms
    Security
    Cost to insure the event
    Parking
    The list goes on.

and who is paying for this?

    1. 4:38 There’s also the cost of paving over the intersection at Main Street because the Work wasn’t done in time. Once the festival is over they will rip that up again and finish the work. Great way to spend city tax dollars Jakey boy. 👏🏻👏🏻

  36. I like blues and I like folk music and I don't mind paying to see good music. But what will be played at this event will be a mixture of blues, folk, hip hop and rap. Read the press release carefully and you will agree most of these bands are little known and attach any label to their music that will get them onstage. Also an event of this size will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce, they are claiming this is free.

  56. I was on the net today to see the availability of rooms for this weekend in local hotels etc.
Ten of them had rooms with jacked up prices up to and over $200. These same places are less than $159 other times of the year. Who would spend that kind of money to stay in Salisbury? If the city really wanted people to come and stay and spend money they should have had a meeting with these local motels. Even Motel 6 was high dollar.

  60. While I understand that the National Folk Festival isn't everyone's cup of tea, I don't understand all of the hate and negativity. If it's not your thing, don't go! Bike Week isn't my thing but I certainly wish no ill on those promoting it and participating in it. Quite the contrary, I hope it's a smashing success as it has been in years past. I hope Joe's new business does well too. Bike Week, the NFF and other cultural events are good for the area and good for the economy. They expose folks to our area who might not have been exposed otherwise. Both are a chance for us to shine and show folks from different areas what we have to offer as a community. Both cost taxpayers. Bike Week requires added police presence, increased SHA and Public Works costs just like the NFF. The only difference is Bike Week is a privately promoted event and the NFF is a publicly promoted event. Either way, both events cost the taxpayer and I think both are worth the price tag.

  61. September 5, 2019 at 7:51 AM,

With all due respect, you are way wrong and way off base here. The folk festival cost the taxpayers money because it is NOT profitable, period. Bike week brings in between 200,000 to 300,000 bikers and mega millions in tax revenue. Every hotel/motel is completely booked for bike week in ALL of Ocean City. Even the mass majority of condo units are booked. Bars and restaurants will bring in mega millions of dollars and please stop kidding yourself attempting to suggest the folk festival is good for Salisbury's economy.

On a positive note, yes, it's great to spread the folk music venue for a very select few people who enjoy such music. Bikers, (on the other hand) enjoy ALL motorcycles. It's not a Harley Bike Week/Fest. It's for everyone. Therefore the folk festival will always be limited. Your elected officials want people to believe it's something it isn't and that's why people are fed up. To top it off, because it's such a financial loss, (now you know why) taxpayers are fed up. Jake Day is pissing away tax payer money for 1% of the population and that's putting good money after bad money. When you are a KID running a multi million dollar business/town this is what you get. It's, (once again) time for a change in leadership.
