Baltimore Teachers Call For Donated Fans, District Resists

Baltimore's teacher union is calling for fans to be donated to schools as sweltering heat pushes classroom temperatures into the hundreds, but the district says electrical infrastructure may not be equipped to handle it.

WBAL-TV 11's Tim Tooten reports the union hopes to hand out 500 fans in response to a lack of functional air-conditioning in city schools, some of which have none at all.

"All I can focus on is feeling that sweat just coming out and I look over at the kid and they're sweating, and all we want to do is take a break and get some water and open the window," said Brittany Johnson, a Baltimore City school counselor.

  7. The new Mayor should put Baltimore students first ahead of illegals. Take the money they are using / giving illegals to better US citizens educational conditions.

  8. Wasn't it a couple of years ago, the Baltimore schools couldn't afford heat for the cold classrooms but could muster a political bus trip?

  9. Off topic but the Trump supporters are back out in Baltimore picking up trash and found 2 near dead overdoses behind a pile of trash. A resident happened to have some Naloxone and gave it to one of the volunteers to administer to the junkies. Only in Baltimore

  10. If anyone is wondering where the resident got the Naloxone from it's a safe bet he is either a dealer or a user who bought it from a dealer

  12. Ask your no good democrat leaders to get them for you. How the hell did we grow up and survive for generations without air conditioning and fans in schools. It got summer time then too. But we knew it was summer.......it was supposed to be hot. Get over it.

  15. I went to school in Baltimore city when I was a kid. A Catholic school with no AC and we couldn't unbutton our top button without permission or lower our knee-high socks past our knees. The boys had to wear a tie and pants (no shorts). At least these kids don't have to deal with that. We didn't get any taxpayer funds either.
