Birth control pills recalled by Salisbury pharmaceutical company

SALISBURY, Md. — A Salisbury pharmaceutical company is voluntarily recalling birth control medication it produces due to concerns about the pills' efficacy.

A press release issued by Jubilant Cadista Pharmaceuticals Inc., the company that manufactures the Drospiernone and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets, said the pills may not serve as effective contraception due to “incomplete absorption of the active ingredients,” the release said. The company has yet to receive reports of adverse events related to the recall.

Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets are oral contraceptives utilizing estrogen and progestin. They are primarily taken to prevent pregnancy, but also may treat symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or to treat moderate acne for women who are at least 14 years old.

  6. How do you use Mountain Dew as a contraceptive? Douche? Doesn't the sugar invite yeast infection? Do the sperm swim faster because of the caffeine? Does the egg get a caffeine buzz? Is this redneck science?
