DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) — As the Summer months approach many people will be out doing yard work, but for those in the community that cannot physically do that themselves, students at the Alternative Learning Center are stepping in to help.
As part of the school’s curriculum, students can choose from various activities during the last two weeks of school that will count towards their physical education credits. Volunteering to do yard work for people in the community is one of the options.
A teacher at the school, Tim Hitzler, says he and the students will be helping people with an array of outdoor chores.
“The students and I and other students come out and help them. Could be raking leaves, pulling weeds, cutting grass, cleaning gutters, just depends on what they need.”
