Committee on Appropriations Passes H-2B Amendment Cosponsored by Rep. Andy Harris

WASHINGTON, DC: On Tuesday, June 11th, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) cosponsored an amendment, which preserves the president’s ability to release more H-2B visas next year, passed by the Committee on Appropriations. The H-2B visa program is a crucial resource for the seafood industry, the tourism industry, and other seasonal employers across the First District and supports thousands of related jobs held by American citizens.

Rep. Harris made the following statement:

“These past few months I have worked hard to increase the cap for guest workers, especially helping convince the Department of Homeland Security to issue and add the 30,000 visas for the summer season. The committee action today is a good start to helping provide an adequate number of temporary workers for the next year – but more needs to be done as the legislative process unfolds to be sure we have an adequate number for next year’s need.”
