Venezuela banned private citizens from owning guns seven years ago, leaving firearms solely in the hands of the army and the police. Now, as the country’s opposition attempts to oust the oppressive Maduro regime from power, it is a decision some have come to regret.
Interim President Juan Guaido called for a military uprising, dubbed Operacion Libertad, against socialist dictator Nicholas Maduro on Tuesday. Venezuelans have been protesting for months against Maduro’s “re-election,” which the United States has declared to be illegitimate in light of Maduro’s jailing of political dissidents and protesters.
As the unrest in the country approached a breaking point, some citizens told Fox News in December that they wished they had guns available to them to fight back against the Maduro regime. A 2012 gun ban made that option all but impossible.

Same thing idiots in the United States are trying to do - ban gun ownership. Wrong, just so wrong. Look where they are now.
ReplyDeleteWhen their guns became illegal, they should have hidden them and become criminals. Big deal. Then they would be able to defend themselves from their illegitimate government now. And that why Americans will never surrender our guns to the government, laws, or no laws. And our politicians better understand that. If they just criminalize all citizens for exercising our constitutional rights, then there will be a day of reckoning if they try.
ReplyDeleteGun ownership in Australia rose after their bans.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what does banning gun ownership have to do with an embargo induced economic collapse? The country was doing fine until we took out it's oil market.
The country was "doing fine" until the new socialist government took control of the economy, set prices, and spent all the oil revenue on redistribution of wealth to people that had no jobs and didn't want to work. The socialists didn't create jobs for the jobless, rather they just "gave" everything to them, and created more and more joblessness. Even massive oil revenues couldn't keep up with people that didn't have to work for anything. Free everything, yea! And now the results are in. It doesn't work, and neither do the people. Why do you think there are so many demonstrators? It's because nobody has jobs!!!!! And now they have no food, no toilet paper, or anything else. And they can't eat or wipe their ass with the oil. If anyone has a little money, they can't buy anything because there are so few people working at government jobs to make anything, so NOTHING is available except at prices that no one can afford, due to extreme shortages of everything. If someone is working, they don't care whether they actually do anything, because the government will pay them (next to nothing) whether they do anything or not. And that's Socialism for ya. Always leads to the same conclusion. Eventually, it runs out of someone else's money to pay for everything.
ReplyDeleteThey banned guns then dictators took over sort of elementary.
