Sewell found guilty of misconduct in office

Former Pocomoke City Police Chief Kelvin Sewell was summoned back before a jury in Worcester County Circuit Court this week and was, once again, found guilty of misconduct in office stemming from a vehicular collision in November 2014.

Maryland State Prosecutor Emmet Davitt said the two-day trial wrapped up on Wednesday, with the jury returning the guilty verdict at about 4:30 p.m., with a sentencing date still to be scheduled.

Davitt said the state is gratified with the verdict for a case that was remanded back to circuit court after the Maryland Court of Special Appeals rescinded the original guilty conviction from December 2016.

“We feel this case has been mischaracterized by some members of the media,” he said.

  5. Didn't he come here from the Baltimore City PD?
He learned from the best of them.

  6. 8:38-No one "let" the chief cover up a hit and run. It was his own actions. He is obviously the one to "blame" since he was found guilty. What's the matter with you!? You can't be that stupid! Then again, I bet you are!

  11. He seemed to be a nice man who made a bad decision. I wish he had just owned up to it.
On top of that, many people are forgetting two people who had their cars severely damaged with no one being held accountable. I cannot even imagine what a huge nightmare that must have been for them...

  12. So what was the end result of the person charged with the hit and run?

Ahem....The court itself is not a human entity, therefore incapable of racism (remember lady justice is blindfolded)...I imagine you are speaking of the Attorney General's Office who had prosecuted him. And how are they racist? White people have been charged with the exact same crime in Worcester County.

  15. 9:24 AM:
Two of the state's key witnesses were African American, one a current Pocomoke City police officer and one a former Pocomoke City police officer, who both have good morals and did the right thing, unlike Kelvin Sewell and Lynell Green.
They were caught for this one, but who knows what other corrupt activities they were involved in. They are dirty.

  16. Northwest Woodsman: Racism plain and simple. When a black police chief is attacked for a little minor corruption and favoritism; circumventing the laws that we are expected to abide by, it must be racism. You put them in positions that allow for this to happen, so keep promoting affirmative action and diversity and accept the results.
