School bus sexual assault

Good morning,

I am writing because I don't know where else to turn. My son is a student at a wicomico county school and he was sexually assaulted on his bus on April 16th. He reported this to the driver assuming he would handle the issue. However all the driver did was send the child to the back of the bus. This was an elementary school bus.
The assault happened 2 rows behind the driver.

Since the driver did not report this and no action taken my son was assaulted again on 4/17. This time he told his mother and I. We immediately filed a police report with MSP and emailed the principal. On 4/18 I spoke to the principal and he interviewed all the students who witnessed this.

I followed up with emails to the school safety director, principal, assistant superintendent for student services, the superintendent, the governor and board members.

I did not receive responses for days. It took almost 2 weeks to get someone to talk to me about everything. Now I learned today over 3 weeks later the Sherriff's office took over the case yesterday and the bus's cameras seem to have malfunctioned. And no one seems to be taken it serious that the inaction of the driver lead to the second assault. If he had done his job and the school followed up the students would not have had to be exposed to a second assault.
Please reach out to me for more details. This type of inaction by the school is why we have the safety issues currently happening at Wicomico County schools.

Thank you

  2. Why did you put your son back on that bus after the first sexual assault? Why didn’t you contact anyone on the day it happened?

    1. His kid told the driver the first time, and his parents the 2nd. Learn to read before trying to blame the parents.

  4. I am so sorry your child - and your family- have had to endure this. The inaction of so many parties and their lack of communication is appalling. Stay strong! Contact Mike Lewis directly. Contact Donna Hamlin directly.

  5. Go loud ; post names/dates/times all over social media and email WTOP and other news outlets outside the area - retain an attorney and put the screws to them.... they only understand and act when you hit them with a hammer

  6. three weeks was just about the time is gave the Wicomico county school board the time to destroy any evidence and clear all the people. clean the video and avoid a law suit and save the bus driver of any charges. only in Salisbury.

  7. I'm thinking a trip to visit to Sheriff Mike Lewis to get his opinion. School safety is his thing.

  8. What are the bus numbers?

  9. And I am thinking that this parent needs to visit a lawyer and get a huge lawsuit against the driver, the owner of the school bus and the school system.

  14. The school bus drivers we have today are from the bottom of the barrel. It's all they can get because of the little hoodlums that ride the buses. No respect for anyone or anything and the driver's can't handle them so they get drivers that don't give a fat rat's behind.

  15. MD gives anyone who is inexperienced a School Bus license and reject qualified drivers. I know from attempting to get the School Bus endorsement. I have all other endorsements for driving a Tour Bus and was rejected with the rationale that I had to get a MD license since my CDL was a Federal license. WCBOE does not want these cases to be documented and no Police involved. Doesn't surprise me.

  16. Was The bus owned by the WCBOE and driven by a WCBOE employee?

  17. This is nothing new just wait the DOJ will in the near future be laying heavy fines on the board of Ed for non compliance. In a separate investigation it was revealed to them the whole Bennett fiasco was unreported. If this is true I hate to say it but sue. They cover and cover and cover.

He didn't tell his parents the first time it happened. Read much? Pretty crappy, blaming the parents.

Oh yeah, good idea. A bus driver making minimum wage has a lot of money.

  22. WIcomico County schools take forever to respond when in the wrong. I finally copied everyone up the chain and called daily and showed up. My issues won’t be thrown under a rug. Post names, dates, school info. For those saying the child didn’t tel the first day...please be mindful it’s a child in a very uncomfortable position and felt safe before and was confused and likely scared afterwards. Yes the bus driver should have told the school. The child accused should have to change buses until its sorted out.

  23. Did I miss who did the assult? Another school kid I am assuming. Older -say much older? Some kids are held back so it could have been someone older. No other kid saw anything? Say what. If it happened to my kid I would be kicking some ass and taken names later.
