50 Days Later, Catherine Pugh Is No Longer Mayor, How Did We Get Here?

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The last few months have spun Baltimore in a whirlwind of controversy and chaos at City Hall. How did we get here?

The story began in 2001, when Baltimore City Councilwoman Catherine Pugh joined the University of Maryland Medical System Board.

The mayor said in 2010 as state senator, she began publishing her first “Healthy Holly” book after she attended a childhood obesity conference.

Between January 2011 and 2018, the UMMS entered into multiple handshake agreements with Pugh to buy 100,000 books for $500,000.

She admitted there was no contract.

It started when she was a state senator on the Senate Finance Committee and stretched into her time as mayor of Baltimore.

  7. She has to be tried in a court of law and found guilty for her state pension to be affected. Think that'll happen in Baltimore, or even Maryland? Not likely.

Maryland Joint Resolution 4 of 2010

Pensions of state legislators can be revoked for conviction of any felony committed while in office or a misdemeanor related to a member's official duties and responsibilities.

  8. Baltimore and Chicago; so alike in so many ways. The corruption and killings are business as usual for the cities like that. The common denominator....you figure it out.

  9. The youth of Baltimore see how corrupt their black leaders are and assume that they are to conduct themselves the same way.

It is so depressing to see black 'leaders' get in position where they can do good things for their community and end up just being another crook who is concerned only with themselves.
