Two gun control measures fail to pass in Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Two high-profile gun control measures died in the Maryland General Assembly after getting fervent support from mothers who wanted tighter access to firearms and fierce opposition from critics who flew their message with an airplane around the Maryland State House.

One measure would have required background checks anytime someone buys a rifle or shotgun. Supporters said it was needed to close a loophole in Maryland law enabling private sales of long guns without background checks.

“I’m incredibly disappointed. A lot of the moms were consistent in coming down and being very supportive,” said Del. Vanessa Atterbeary, a Democrat who said she planned to try again next year.

  9. Atterbeary was careful not to reveal the origins of these 'mothers' who were fearful of 'loopholes'. My guess they are from Balto. City or Co. is probably spot on.
It's not the responsibility of the rest of the law-biding citizens in Md. to bear a cross because of the criminal element in Baltimore City going un-checked because the 'book-worm' Mayor is a dud.

Give the Police authority to stop and frisk. It worked in NYC under Guiliani and it'll work here in conflict with the Democratic theology that these thugs have 'rights'.

    Good folks have rights too!

  14. My guns are all unregistered, and will stay that way until I die, or GIVE them to someone else. Register my private sale of a used hunting gun, with the government, NO WAY? Isn't going to happen. Catch me if you can, but how are they going to do it, if my guns are not registered? I'm not going to do it, and I'm sure the buyers aren't going to do it if they know they are buying an unregistered gun. Once the government knows where the guns are, they will come and get it someday. It's what registration is all about. One law closer to making the last law that makes all registered guns illegal to own.
