Payback for not lifting a finger to stop the migrant caravans.
As the crisis at our nation’s southern border with Mexico worsens due to the unremitting flow of migrants from Central America, President Trump decided late last week to cut aid to the three Central American countries that were contributing most to the problem - El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The cut off affects nearly $500 million of allotted but unspent aid for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 and millions more for the previous year. President Trump finally decided to take this drastic step, after having issued warnings in the past. He charged that these three countries in particular – known collectively as the Northern Triangle - were receiving "tremendous amounts of money" from the United States without doing anything to stop the increasing numbers of caravans from proceeding north towards the United States.
"No money goes there anymore...we're not paying them any more because they haven't done a thing for us," the president said on Friday.
Some Democrats are crying foul, claiming that Congress must approve an end to the funding. Senator Bob Menendez, D-N.J., who is the ranking Democrat on the Republican-chaired Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, said that President Trump’s decision was "irresponsible" and “reckless.” Senator Menendez claimed this action “shows the Administration still does not understand that the United States cuts foreign aid to Central America at our own peril." He added that “President Trump reportedly wants to make matters worse by blocking resources for programs that get to the root causes of this humanitarian crisis.”

No offense intended but it's high time this happened.Unless we sent managers to the countries involved nothing good could ever come from giving them billions.Everyone reading this knows that by now positive changes would have taken place if ever was going to happen. We finally have a great president and all everyone can think of is getting him out of office.
ReplyDeleteYou beat me to it 9:52. My sentiments exactly. If they can't make 500 million a year work or solve any issues then what are we paying it for? That's just common sense!
DeleteDemocrats have had a long time to address these problems, but have not lifted a finger. They don't consider them to be problems, so long as the cash and votes keep flowing.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't do your chores and respect your parents and their wishes, you don't get your allowance.
Glad it has finally happen. This will cut off the leaders from mismanagement and they will no longer be able to line their pockets. This should be done in the Middle East and Africa also. American tax payers are no longer willing to give away our hard earned money for supporting other Countries millionaires.
ReplyDelete9:53 we had a republican congress for 8+ years and nothing was done...
ReplyDeleteFinally a president who does what he promises to do. Whether you agree with the action, at least he's good on his word.
ReplyDeleteIf there were any resources there to exploit I'd say just annex Mexico, Central and hell why not South America too. They have amounted to little since Spanish Rule. American Christian feel good missions down there have just filled these poor peoples heads with fantasies.
ReplyDeleteHOW CAN THESE PEOPLE SAY THEY WANT POLITICAL ASYLUM WHEN THEY PASS 2/3 OTHER COUNTRYS TO GET TO MEXICO WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO FILE AT THE FIRST COUNTRY THEY ENCOUNTER.
ReplyDelete"Unhelpful" is a very kind word to use.
ReplyDelete10:19 AM - We didn't have masses of people flooding the gates and illegally crossing; we didn't have a huge amount of heroin and fentanyl crossing the border, drugs that are causing deaths in the hundreds of thousands every year; we didn't have states and cities calling themselves "sanctuaries" for illegals, law abiding and not; we didn't have a quarter of our prison system occupied by illegal aliens arriving from south of our border who committed felonies, many of whom were sent back to their home countries over half a dozen times; and we didn't have the amount of major crime directly attributed to illegal "visitors", crimes like kidnapping, rape, human trafficking, drug smuggling and sale, RICO gang activities and murder.
ReplyDeleteHow long is too long? How much is enough?
Wrong on soooo many accounts. Shows you folks really need to sit this debate out and let the experts handle it. Im convinced the reason 95% of the country's problems arent solved is because we allowed buffoons to co trol the debate and make decisions. That goes for both sides of the aisle
DeleteWhat experts ?? You mean congress ?? What a joke !!!!
DeleteIt is needed they don't want to assist in the caravan to this country so they can get rid of so many, and rain drugs, murderers and criminals here then I stand behind Trump long over due. If countries do not work with the needs of this country and our people, then send them back and due without the US aid they have relied on for so long.
ReplyDeleteI think that the reports from the Border Patrol speak to the problem.
ReplyDeleteGreat thinking people. Lets solve the problem BEFORE they get to the border which is the reason for the aid in the first place. SO lets make the border problem worse by squeezing harder at the countries of origin.
ReplyDeleteBut of course that was the old Republican foreign policy , not today's new and revised Republican party of Trump.
The border issue is self imposed
