John Page Williams is our guide. He’s a naturalist with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and wants us to see how a restored oyster population here is making the bay healthier.
It's hard to see on the surface but underwater it becomes clear, literally. Oysters filter the water, and cluster together provide habitat for crabs and fish.
All of which is why about 10 years ago this area and several others were set aside as sanctuaries. No harvest allowed while millions is spent on adding young oysters.

The only way for the bay to survive is to stop all harvesting of the shell fish . Watermen need to look for work .
ReplyDeleteWhat an idiot
DeleteYou are total dumbass and know nothing about working on the water.
ReplyDeleteLol !!! 9:21 So lets stop farming too, we can get all our food from the grocery store, oh I almost forgot, no chicken houses either.
ReplyDeletejust more ignorant politicians who read a book and it automatically makes them smarter than the peasants
ReplyDeletewhy does no one ask the question that the state has been given 100's millions of dollars to restore the oysters and there are no more oysters now than there was 10 years ago what was this money spent on if you listen to the bay foundation they have planted 100's of millions of oysters in these 10 years so where are they the waterman have not been allowed on these sanctuaries in 10 years oysters usually take 3 years to become market size do the math how much area in the water would 100's of millions of bushels cover the truth is they aren't there its proof positive that these scientist and conservation groups have took millions in tax payer money and have absolutely nothing to show for it
If the Chesapeake Bay was clean the Chesapeake Bay Foundation would be out of business
ReplyDeleteThink about it!
Watermen are like the Hunters and Trappers of old times
ReplyDeleteCatch as many as you can and never put anything back they just buy a boat, crab pots and they are in business.
Cash business too! That’s why Somerset County is the poorest county in Maryland.
Watermen feel they are entitled to tax free income because why? Get a life no one made you “work the water”
The CBF is a total scam

I see you didn't have any answer for question's that were asked. do you know why there are less oysters than 10 years ago??
do you know where these 100's of millions of bushels are?
then look at the cbf salaries you will start to get real answers.
no business model in the world could continue like CBF has: over a billion dollars of tax payer money spent. lavish salaries to the heads of foundation. zero results if anything
things a worst off now and it is directly correlated to the laws they helped push and bad science that is used to keep the coffers full
