Senator Bernie Sanders this weekend said at a town hall in Iowa that states should give convicted felons currently behind bars the right to vote.
Bernie’s home state of Vermont and fellow New England state, Maine currently allow convicted felons to vote in prison.
At a town hall meeting in Muscatine’s West Middle School gymnasium Saturday, the Socialist Vermont senator was asked whether felons behind bars should have the right to vote, the Des Moines Register reported.
“In my state, what we do is separate. You’re paying a price, you committed a crime, you’re in jail. That’s bad,” he said. “But you’re still living in American society and you have a right to vote.
“I believe in that, yes, I do.”

ReplyDeleteNew Bernie PAC? Crooks for Commies!
Seriously, what are VT and ME thinking? Prisoners have broken society's rules to the extent that they've been physically separated for a specified period. At the public expense to boot.
My view is they should be able to apply for restoration of voting rights (it would provide a visible step that they were rejoining society). I would exclude convicted murderers. Would also insist that they have completed probation before voting restored. Perhaps they should also be reimbursing us for the expense of putting them up as guests in the Greybar Hotel.
Bernie wants his wife to be able to vote after she gets convicted.
ReplyDeleteFelons lose their rights, esp. the one to vote. And, they should.
ReplyDeleteAgree 6:53 AM. 100%! That is part of the penalty for violating the law.
ReplyDeleteHe's dead wrong. They are NOT still living in American society. They have been removed from American society as punishment for their crimes, and to protect society from their violence. They forfeited their right to vote when they were convicted and removed from society. Bernie must be losing his mind if he thinks felons in jail are still living in American society. If he really thinks so, he should go join them.
ReplyDeleteThey r trying to make up the MILLIONS of Dems leaving the 9 month socialist abortions.
