While the Town Council looked at a general fund budget proposal 18 percent lower than the current year’s spending, Berlin Fire Company and EMS officials on the same evening asked for a significant funding increase.
Several town officials also questioned some of the fire company’s accounting practices.
The Town Council a year ago approved a $605,000 contract for services for fire and EMS, representing a large increase over previous years. From 2015-2017, the average annual funding was $400,000.
This year, however, fire and EMS officials are requesting $909,000 in total funding, which includes capital requests for several new vehicles.

OUCH!! Sounds like Berlin has let the idiot DAY and his frivolous spending rub off on them
ReplyDeleteSounds like the crooks at Salisbury Fire Dept.
ReplyDeleteWho audits the books?
ReplyDeleteIf David Fitzgerald has anything to do with this there will be a trail of taxpayers tears.
ReplyDeletethe town needs to question their own accounting practices.they have not given the fire co. their fair share for several years.the police dept. recieves over 3 million dollars a year for their operation.
ReplyDeleteYes, and God help us all Fitzgearld works for "Crooked Wicomico County."
ReplyDeleteRemember Fitzgearld was the Humane Society Director and had stated
that what was later found as a Puppy Mill Operation , was in compliance
with the Law when a neighbor of the Mill Dogs went to him to complain.
He is worthless like so many others employed by the County.
This is ridiculous! The fire company has millions in the bank, building another 2 million dollar firehouse, but wants to burden the taxpayers. Yet the best part is they can’t handle their own calls without calling for help. Get rid of the Fitzgeralds, Trimbles. Holloway’s this theft scheme would cease.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fire department about paying off the loan faster. Of course politicians think you should just keep paying that interest for years and years.
ReplyDeleteYour missing the point, why build another fire house when you can staff the one you have? Then they expect the town to contribute more, but not touch “donations”! Shouldn’t the “donations” also go toward the expenses? Heck no, they go toward toys and expanding territory they can’t staff!!!!
