SALISBURY – A Wicomico County student has been recognized as one of 16 people from around the world to earn a perfect score on an Advanced Placement exam.
Last week, Wicomico County Public Schools announced Marvin Li, a sophomore at James M. Bennett High School, earned a score of 5 – the highest possible score – on the College Board’s Advanced Placement U.S. History exam last May and was one of only 16 students from around the world to earn every point possible on the assessment.
“I found out my score sometime in June or July, but I didn’t know I got a perfect score until I received a letter from the College Board last week,” he said. “I really enjoyed the subject and felt that my efforts paid off.”
The College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Program enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school.
Each AP course concludes with a college-level exam that is scored by college and university faculty, as well as experienced AP teachers, on a five-point scale. According to the College Board, students who perform well on AP exams also improve their chances of getting into college and receiving college credit for equivalent courses.

Local Schools are working for someone. What's everyone else's excuse ?
ReplyDeleteReally? A rarity such as this and you use it as the broad brush to paint the public school picture? Laughable it is
DeleteWell with what just happened down at the second White House .... you take a guess ...
DeleteTeachers like you.
DeleteHe’s Asian probably takes his studies seriously and doesn’t listen to rap music
Delete10:30. Broad brush? Like when one bad kid disrupts a school, you blame the whole sysytem. Doesn’t work both ways.
DeleteGood Parenting!
ReplyDelete1003-Teachers need new schools, new books, laptops for every student, no accountability, tenure to never get fired, raises based only on seniority and not performance, and the teacher's union donate over 90% of their political funds to Democrats.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if that's an excuse, but that's what's happening as our public school systems nationwide continue to underperform compared to peers around the globe.
Congrats, young man!! Keep up the good work. You will go far.
ReplyDeleteThe "everyone else" do not want to learn. They are there to disrupt and distract those who do want to learn. In other words, just thugs and hoodlums.
ReplyDeleteThis kids parents are what's working for him. Don't get it twisted the teachers don't even engage with a majority percentage of the students at Bennett out of fear
ReplyDeletetotal exception...congratulations!
ReplyDeleteToo bad that the recent Varsity Blues sting operation brings EVERY college admission test or requirement into question. Now, as soon as you hear that someone did extremely well, it makes you wonder whether or not the proctor assisted them or someone else took the test for them. Congratulations to Marvin Li. Outstanding job!! Knee your head down and keep working. Don’t let others put obstacles in your way.
ReplyDeleteCan't be serious. No some people are just born brilliant, far more advanced then others. We are not all the same. Every race, religion, culture, sex, etc... Has its strengths and weaknesses. Instead of embracing them and using them for the benefit of man kind. We fight over them all while instilling the lie that we are all the same.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile Da'Quan'Dre at the same school can't even read or write his own name
ReplyDeleteWell Asians are known for solid family oriented values work ethics and study habits. Perhaps we could learn something.
ReplyDeleteI don't think his parents will need to bribe a coach.
ReplyDeleteImagine that, a student who is focused on his future.
ReplyDeleteGood for him. Flag waving families boasting they have been here for 200 years and still stuck in trailer parks should take heed and buckle down equally. You don't have to be brilliant to make an effort.
ReplyDelete2 Identical twins graduated as co valedictorians from Bennett some years ago. Both were geniuses.I have no idea what they did after graduation but I'm sure it was impressive.
ReplyDeleteAnd he did it all by himself with no help from the Affirmative Action answers or someone correcting his mistakes.
ReplyDelete@ April 6, 2019 at 7:45 PM. Yes we do blame the whole system when they let them get away with it and do not make them accept their responsibilities. Anything else?
