In response to public pressure and increasing scrutiny over the pay of its warehouse workers, Amazon enacted a $15 minimum wage for all its employees on 1 November, including workers at grocery chain Whole Foods, which it purchased in 2017.
All Whole Foods employees paid less than $15 an hour saw their wages increase to at least that, while all other team members received a $1 an hour wage increase and team leaders received a $2 an hour increase.
But since the wage increase, Whole Food employees have told the Guardian that they have experienced widespread cuts that have reduced schedule shifts across many stores, often negating wage gains for employees.
“My hours went from 30 to 20 a week,” said one Whole Foods employee in Illinois.

Liberals are oh-so-good at economics, are they not??
ReplyDeleteThe stupid liberals were told this would happen. You can't make a profit by increasing wages to everyone. So they cut their hours and now are making less money than they did before the wage increase. Wake up people Liberals are ruining this country.
ReplyDeleteAre you aware of the fact that the Maryland legislature is working on a $15 minimum wage bill as we speak. They want that to be the State minimum wage by the year 2025. There are businesses in Western Maryland and on the Eastern Shore that won't be able to survive if they have to pay employees $15/hour. One of the things that everyone should look at is the minimum wages of the states that surround us - no one has a minimum wage as high as Maryland's right now at $10.10. One legislator told a small business owner who questioned the lower wages in states like Pennsylvania and Delaware "So move!" I think these people in Annapolis need a reality check - they have no idea how "Business Unfriendly" the state of Maryland is!
ReplyDeleteThey are doing this at fast food restaurants as well.
ReplyDeleteThe higher minimum wage will hurt everyone and is starting to hurt most people working at a service job. I see more automation as a response to this.
It is true when they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions!
Boycotting kiosks seem to be working very well. Keep it up!!!
ReplyDeleteProof & point. Raise minimum wage and people loses jobs. Keep going Liberals. You’re doing an excellent job looking out for the people.
