Virginia delegate walks back impeachment threat against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax

A Virginia Democratic delegate who planned to introduce articles of impeachment against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax now isn't so sure.

On Friday, Del. Patrick Hope tweeted that he would begin impeachment proceedings against Fairfax, a Democrat, if he had not resigned by Monday. Fairfax faces allegations from two women on sexual assault and rape, both of which he denies.

But Hope, on Monday, after circulating a draft impeachment resolution among colleagues, said it's too early for such proceedings.

“I received an enormous amount of sincere and thoughtful feedback, which has led me to the conclusion that additional conversations need to take place before anything is filed,” Hope said in a statement.

  2. Typical! He got informed if he wants the Democratic party support for his next election campaign he had better back step and go ghost. If this had been a conservative or Republican Governor they would have had him guilty already and impeached, strong up for all to see and all over national media!!

  3. Dave T: God forbid a politician today be a man of his word. Hell will freeze sooner. Another pathetic disgrace indicative of politicians. They are all the same and equally worthless.

  4. Northwest Woodsman: Political scum trying to find ways to protect each other. This is the very reason J Edgar Hoover was so successful. He maintained files,on all of these clowns and knew lol of the seedy details of their lives. His was pretty seedy too, so this was his way of protecting himself. Folks, please do not form a high opinion of any politician. They all have serious issues and if you were to spend an evening at dinner with most of them you would certainly have lower expectations for them. My experience comes from two daughters who worked for a prominent democrat senator for several years before they tired of the crooked and insincere activities. At social functions, my wife would not let me near him for fear of me causing a scene.

  6. What are NC statute of limitation laws regarding rape? Possible Fairfax could be indicted there, and tried, and convicted.

Apparently both his accusers are Democrats so political bias defense wouldn't stand up.
