Trump Will Declare State Of National Emergency To Fund Border Wall; Pelosi Threatens Legal Challenge

Update 2: Confirming that CNN was yet again fake news, moments ago the White House reported that, as McConnell said, President Trump will support the bipartisan spending bill that would avert another partial federal government shutdown, and will declare a national emergency to get more funding for his border wall.

“President Trump will sign the government funding bill, and as he has stated before, he will also take other executive action - including a national emergency - to ensure we stop the national security and humanitarian crisis at the border,”White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders says in a statement.

“The President is once again delivering on his promise to build the wall, protect the border, and secure our great country.”
Meanwhile, as expected, the Democrats were up to arms, with House majority leader Nancy Pelosi immediately warning that she will review "legal options" if Trump declares an emergency, and Trump's decision should be met with unease.
PELOSI SAYS TRUMP WOULD SET A PRECEDENT WITH EMERGENCY DECLARATION THAT SHOULD BE MET WITH GREAT UNEASE AND DISMAY BY REPUBLICANS

After some modest jitters earlier, the market now appears to be ignoring this particular narrative.

Update 1: barely moments after CNN reported that Trump aides are 'growing concerned" the president may not sign the spending bill, Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell said that Trump will in fact sign the bill, but he added that Trump will also declare an emergency. From Reuters:

U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said on Thursday that President Donald Trump told him he would sign a bipartisan border security bill and at the same time declare a national emergency to make available additional funds for a wall along the southern border.

And while the news that Trump will sign the bill was initially seen as good news by algos, which sent the S&P to session highs, the realization that Trump would also proceed with an emergency declaration, widely seen as negative, has spooked some traders, and the market is now generally unchanged compared to where it was before the CNN report.

  2. This is not the America that it once was.
There was a time when news organizations - our so-called "free press" - would ask the tough, meaningful, questions of both sides of the debate.
I have been waiting, to no avail, to hear just two pertinent questions asked and answered:
    1. One side says that walls (barriers; fences; etc.) do not work. They are "meaningless, worthless, ineffective, a waste of money".
WHY doesn't some reporter ask why the politicians that feel this way do not just tear down all the walls? If they really believe that the walls are ineffective, then why should the American people continue to pay for the upkeep?
    2. "80% of the illegal drugs come through Ports of Entry."
WHY doesn't some reporter ask a family member whose loved-one OD'd on Fentanyl that came through the 20% zone if that makes them feel any better?
There is NO free press any longer in this country.

  3. Proves her partisan politics. She did nothing when Obama took 2 Billion dollars to Iran. She pushed that through.

  4. Not doing anything for the taxpayers just partying and wasting time going after the president.

  5. Pelosi is more of a threat to her mental stability than she is to Trump.
