TANGIER ISLAND, Va. (WAVY) -- Residents on the small island of Tangier in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay are without water after their main water line froze and burst on Sunday.
The main water line had to be moved for construction on the bridge near the island's water tower and school, according to Tangier Island Mayor James Eskridge.
Eskridge says a company replaced the main water line, but Sunday night's freezing temperatures caused the new line to freeze and burst. Their main water tank on the island was drained as a result.

ReplyDeleteI would definitely invest in a salt to fresh water conversion unit if I lived on that island.

ReplyDeleteIt would still be useless if the distribution pipe froze and burst, wouldn't it?
Uhhh did you not pay attention in middle school science class? Salt water doesn't freeze like fresh water lol.
DeleteWater water everywhere but not a drop to drink.
ReplyDeleteYears ago their were the Artisian Wells supplied the island but then they did the present day thing. You have to understand the island is only 4 feet above sea level. This is an urgent matter when the Mayor Eskridge was speaking to Trump during several televised videos during the 2016 campaign we were promised if elected something would be done because according to the Army Corp of Engineers in approximately 20 years the island would sink below sea level. We help other countries all the time it is time some of the urgent matters in this country need to be taken care of. They need to build a bulkhead like they did around one portion of the Island, and complete the job but it's like the border wall until their is a catastrophy nothing is done.
ReplyDeleteMaybe lower the water level in the Chesapeake Bay about 3 or 4 feet and they can live there for another hundred years.
DeletePrivate company: 1-2 day job.
ReplyDeletePublic sector: 6-8 months
So, the contractor didn't know that water freezes and that when it does, it expands? Duh.
ReplyDeleteI guess JOHN JACOBS must be running things. It sounds like one of his power trips.
ReplyDeleteTime to move to Chincoteague Island !!!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they should all live on houseboats

ReplyDeleteYou might have paid attention in middle school science class (or not), but you must not have read what pipe broke because of the freezing temperatures. It was the water main for their drinking water! Are you suggesting that Tangier Island residents drink Salt Water??? Or did you miss the reading class in middle school. LOL, just for kicks.
