RICHMOND, Ind. — A malfunctioning tail light led to the arrests of two men on drug charges Thursday night.
Jose Perez, 34, of Richmond remained in the Wayne County Jail on Friday morning preliminarily charged with Level 6 felony possession of methamphetamine, Level 6 felony maintaining a common nuisance and Class C misdemeanor driving without a license.
Indiana State Police Trooper Michael Garcia was patrolling just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday when he observed a Honda car with its driver's side tail light not functioning, according to an ISP news release. Garcia initiated a traffic stop, and the car stopped after turning south onto North Fifth Street.
As officers investigated, they found a digital scale and a white powder, which is believed to be methamphetamine, inside the vehicle, the release said. The car also had license plates issued for a different vehicle.
