Black Caucus Chair: Pelosi Should Give SOTU Since She’s ‘Running the Country’

After President Donald Trump agreed on Friday to open the government for three weeks, Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) should just give the State of the Union address “since she’s obviously the one running the country.”

Pelosi cancelled Tuesday’s State of the Union address and said on Friday, after Trump decided to open the government on Democrats’ terms, that she and Trump still have to “discuss a mutually agreeable date.”

“The State of the Union is not planned now,” Pelosi said when asked if there will be a State of the Union address on Tuesday. “What I said to the president is when the government is open we will discuss a mutually agreeable date, and I’ll look forward to doing that and welcoming the president to the House of Representatives for the State of the Union when we agree on that.”

  2. Hate to say it but she isn't wrong. Why aren't ANY of the dirty cops arrested but an old guy in Florida gets raided. It doesn't look good. If Trump doesn't start doing something with mueller he will not get elected and then we are ALL in the poor house.

  3. And right there is the problem that is going unnoticed. What the heck is a black caucus? We sadly have Muslims, Mexican's or any other thing that is non American in office. What will get done when each get their own caucus? About like college when blacks cried to go to school with the white folk. They arrive and immediately start BSU and complain when a bulletin board is tampered with during black history mont.

  6. We have have a nut case here with Pelosi. The rules for giving the State of the Union address by the President of the United States have not changed - Pelsoi has. Law requires her as the majority leader to invite the President to do so. In her thirst for power she has not invited him to do as been the rule for decades. It is a ploy to stop President Trump from winning in 2020. Pelsoi works for the American people. The Chambers that she feels is hers in not. It is owned by American citizens. I suggest she rethink her decision and get off her high horse. We the people did not elect her to decide what our President will do and when. Her part is only coursery.

  7. I wish ALL the politicians in D.C. (and in the whole country) would read what Paul wrote to the Philippians, chapter 2, verse 4, and try to live by it: Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

  9. The President is tasked with giving a report to the Congress. Across the years most have been written and sent as a letter or report.

Within past decades, especially since the arrival of TV, it has provided the president an opportunity to hold forth, brag and outline future plans. Then came the addition of rebuttals. That brings us to the present.

The Senate has its chamber where its rules prevail. Likewise the House of Representatives. An address to the joint houses is a special event and the president only ventures onto their physical turf when invited. That revoked invite from the House was the sticky wicket during the shutdown.

The President will be able to speak as he wishes during the speech; the only Democrat not running for the White House will drool a whiny rebuttal.
