A Lesson in Racial Politics from Florida

Now that, finally, the elections in Florida have reached a conclusion, there are lessons worth learning. One is on the subject of race.

There was a fateful anomaly in racial voting in the governor's race between Democrat Andrew Gillum and Republican Rick DeSantis, now Florida's governor-elect.

Given that Gillum, formerly mayor of Tallahassee, was running to become the first black governor of Florida, we might have expected black enthusiasm for his candidacy on the order of the waves of black enthusiasm for the presidential candidacy of Barack Obama.

But it didn't happen.

College student, 18, dies of adenovirus days before Thanksgiving

A freshman college student at University of Maryland has died of adenovirus, the virus that has killed 11 immunocompromised children at one New Jersey care facility.

Olivia Paregol, 18, suffered from Crohn's disease and was diagnosed with pneumonia on November 9.

She developed the respiratory infection as a complication of a particularly severe strain of adenovirus, a common illness from which most people recover on their own, but that can prove deadly for those with weakened immune systems.

After nearly a week fighting for her life in an intensive care unit, Olivia died on Sunday.

Though she'd been seriously ill, Olivia was not tested for adenovirus until another student was diagnosed with the virus, and her father, Ian, told WJLA that the school did not announce cases to families or the student body.

As her family and the University of Maryland grieve the loss of the young woman, they warn that five others have been diagnosed with adenovirus, and that illnesses should be taken seriously.

When Muslims Rape European White Women, Whose Fault Is It?

European women are to blame for being raped by Muslim men. Such is the latest position – the latest apologia – being offered by those dedicated to exonerating undesirable Muslim behavior, particularly in the context of accepting more Muslim migrants into the West.

On October 14, seven Muslim migrants raped a teenage German girl in a park, after drugging her at a disco in Freiburg. (At least she survived; in a similar case that occurred a week earlier in Italy, the drugged rape victim was left murdered.) Bernhard Rotzinger, the police chief of Freiburg, responded by saying, "We cannot offer citizens an all-risk insurance [against crime], but I can advise this: Don't make yourself vulnerable by using alcohol or drugs."

Similarly, after mobs of Muslim migrants sexually assaulted as many as one thousand women on New Year's Eve 2016 in Cologne, Germany, the city's mayor, Henriette Reker, called on the women, the victims – not their male rapists – to make changes: "The women and young girls have to be more protected in the future so these things don't happen again. This means they should go out and have fun, but they need to be better prepared, especially with the Cologne carnival coming up. For this, we will publish online guidelines that these young women can read through to prepare themselves."

John Lott On Why Mass Shooters Go To Gun Free Zones

Almost every gun debate hinges on the subject of mass shootings. It’s almost as if crime is no longer an issue anymore, what with all the focus on these mass killings. In fairness, they’re horrific, and they seem to be happening all too often for anyone’s comfort.

However, as most gun folks have pointed out in debates, there’s a fact that is constantly ignored, and that’s how most of these things happen in gun free zones.

John Lott, writing at the Chicago Tribune, has some thoughts on why that is.

While Americans are rightly concerned by the increased frequency and severity of mass public shootings, the rest of the world is experiencing much larger increases in per capita rates of attack. The frequency of foreign mass public shootings since 1998 has grown 291 percent faster than in the U.S.

The media bias on this is overwhelming. Even after President Donald Trump again raised the danger of gun-free zones, the news media still refuse to mention this fact in its reporting of mass shootings. The attack earlier this month at Borderline Bar & Grill occurred in a gun-free zone. Unlike in 39 states, concealed handgun permit holders in California are banned from carrying permitted concealed handguns into bars. The mass shooting Monday at Chicago’s Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Bronzeville was at a place where law-abiding citizens were banned from having guns.

Most gunmen are smart enough to know that they can kill more people if they attack places where victims can’t defend themselves. That’s one reason why 98 percent of mass public shootings since 1950 have occurred in places where citizens are banned from having guns.

No More Pay-To-Play: Clinton Foundation Donations Plummet 90%

Donors see little value in contributing to foundation now that they can’t get kickbacks

Contributions to the Clinton Foundation dried up by almost 90% in a three year period from 2014 to 2017, according to financial statements.

In 2014, at the height of Obama’s power, the foundation raked in a staggering $218 million in donations.
But by 2017, after Clinton’s devastating election loss to Donald Trump, the organization had collected only $22 million.
The globalist charity is currently under investigation by several agencies, including the FBI, IRS, and DOJ for a litany of reasons, including pay-to-play schemes and tax code violations.

While Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, she had the State Department approve a $165 billion arms deal to 20 countries who had donated to the Clinton Foundation, representing almost double the sales made by the Bush administration.

Don't Eat Romaine Lettuce Due to E. Coli Outbreak, FDA Warns

Cross one ingredient off your Thanksgiving dinner menu: romaine lettuce.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with health officials from various states are asking American consumers to avoid the leafy green due to an outbreak of dangerous E. coli illness.

"At this time, the FDA recommends that consumers do not eat romaine lettuce and discard any product until we know more," the two agencies said in an FDA news release issued Tuesday. "Retailers, restaurants and other food service operators should not serve romaine lettuce until more is known about this outbreak."

So far, 32 people across 11 states have become sick with E.coli after eating romaine lettuce, the FDA said. Eleven of those cases were severe enough to require hospitalization and one patient developed kidney failure, although no deaths have so far been reported.

Chau took a canoe trip onto the remote island.

The tribesmen shot him with arrows, tied a rope around his neck and dragged his body around on the dirt.

An American tourist was killed by arrows shot by protected tribesmen living in one of the world’s most isolated regions tucked in India’s Andaman islands, police said Wednesday.

John Chau, 27, had taken a boat ride with local fishermen before venturing alone in a canoe to the remote North Sentinel Island where the indigenous people live cut off completely from the outside world.

As soon as he set foot on the island, Chau found himself facing a flurry of arrows, official sources told AFP.

Contact with several tribes on the islands, set deep in the Indian Ocean, is illegal in a bid to protect their indigenous way of life and shield them from diseases.

Police have registered a case of murder and seven accused persons have been arrested.

“The investigation in this matter is on,” senior police officer Deepak Yadav said in a press release.

Chau had made several trips to the Andaman islands recently before finally managing to make it to the remote stretch by offering money to local fishermen.

“He tried to reach the Sentinel island on November 14 but could not make it. Two days later he went well prepared. He left the dingy midway and took a canoe all by himself to the island,” sources said.

“He was attacked by arrows but he continued walking. The fishermen saw the tribals tying a rope around his neck and dragging his body.

“They were scared and fled but returned next morning to find his body on the sea shore.”

Special Prosecutor John Huber to Testify to House GOP on DOJ's Probe of Clinton Foundation After Thanksgiving!

Last month, Congressman Mark Meadows said he wanted Huber to appear before Congress to answer questions and give updates.

Rep. Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan said they have not received any updates on Huber’s investigation.

Furthermore, according to Congressman Meadows, there is no evidence John Huber has done anything other than be appointed by Jeff Sessions.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) said Tuesday that House Republicans plan to hear testimony on Dec. 5 from the prosecutor appointed by former Attorney General Jeff Sessions to probe alleged wrongdoing by the Clinton Foundation.

Meadows, who is chairman of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Government Operations, told Hill.TV’s “Rising” that it’s time to “circle back” to U.S. Attorney General John Huber’s investigation with the Justice Department into whether the Clinton Foundation engaged any improper activities.

“Mr. [John] Huber with the Department of Justice and the FBI has been having an investigation – at least part of his task was to look at the Clinton Foundation and what may or may not have happened as it relates to improper activity with that charitable foundation, so we’ve set a hearing date for December the 5th,” he told Hill.TV during an interview on Wednesday.

Meadow’s said the committee plans to delve into a number of Republicans concerns surrounding the foundation, including whether any tax-exempt proceeds for personal gain and whether the Foundation complied with IRS laws.

Silicone implants can increase a woman's risk of arthritis, stillbirth and even skin cancer, a new study suggests.

Researchers found that women had a 4.5-fold increased risk of having a stillbirth and a four times greater risk of developing melanoma after their procedures.

In comparison with saline implants, women with silicone implants were also two times more likely to have surgical complications, particularly scarring around the implant.

The team, from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, says its study is the largest of breast implant outcomes to date and the findings are important to help women choose the implant they feel is right for them.

House Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi crushed an intra-Democrat revolt against her bid to retake the Speaker’s gavel next year led by Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH) after a 2015 letter from Fudge backing a disgraced former Cleveland judge who was convicted of brutally beating his wife resurfaced in the wake of the man’s alleged murder of her.

Fudge, who had floated potentially running against Pelosi for Speaker and was pushed by anti-Pelosi rebel Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), had attacked Pelosi as an “elitist” and “very wealthy person” out of touch with ordinary Democrats in the wake of the midterm election where Democrats retook the majority in the House.

She had also signed a letter along with more than a dozen other Democrats pledging to vote against Pelosi on the floor of the House of Representatives in January.

Missouri City Fires Entire Police Force

A lot of small towns don’t have precisely large police departments. My father was a chief of police for a department that, after a while, was pretty much just him, so I’ve seen it sort of up close and personal. Frankly, I suspect anyone with ties to a small town has.

Sometimes, a city will allow their department to dwindle to almost nothing as the cash-strapped community opts not to fill vacancies. What you don’t often see is the city deciding to fire their entire department, especially in a hinky manner as one Missouri town did.

The last police officer in the tiny Cass County town of Garden City was fired Monday as he arrived at the office.

“I was met by the mayor, a sheriff’s deputy and an alderman and handed termination papers,” said 50-year-old Tom Albers, an 18 year veteran of the department.

The letter simply said “The City of Garden City Board of Alderman held an Emergency Executive Closed Session Meeting on November 15, 2018. Your employment with the City is hereby suspended without pay indefinitely.”

Megyn Kelly and NBC are finally close to reaching an exit deal worth millions of dollars after weeks of negotiation, according to a report by Page Six published Tuesday.

Kelly, who is leaving the network after controversy over her comments about blackface, will walk away with around $30 million, sources told Page Six.

Border Troops Authorized To Use Force, Detain Illegal Immigrants

The White House sent a memo to the Pentagon this week granting troops stationed at the border permission to engage in some law enforcement tasks, and to use lethal force if they get endangered.

Pentagon officials were reviewing the memo Wednesday, and it was unclear whether any of the more than 8,000 active-duty and National Guard troops have begun to carry out expanded duties, which reportedly include the ability to engage in crowd control and temporary detention and to perform quick searches.

A presidential memo obtained by Newsweek shows the enhanced powers are particularly aimed at defending against the migrant caravans that are camped out on the Mexican side of the border, after having crashed their way through the Guatemala-Mexico border late last month. President Trump is intent on avoiding a repeat.

“There are a lot of criminals in the caravan. We will stop them,” Mr. Trump tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

Final decisions on what powers the troops will have rests with Defense Secretary James Mattis, though the memo makes clear they could include use of “lethal force, where necessary” to protect other federal personnel on the border. The troops would not be permitted to make arrests or seizures.

Two Ocean City Men Arrested for Burglarizing Closed Hotels

The Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) recently arrested two individuals suspected of burglarizing hotels closed for the winter months and stealing TV’s.

On November 14, 2018 at about 10:30 a.m. the OCPD received a report of a burglary at a hotel in the area of 29th Street and Baltimore Avenue. Through investigation, officers determined the burglary occurred on November 12 at about 5:45 a.m. and the suspects had stolen several TV’s from hotel rooms

Detectives determined the identity of the suspects and a Worcester County Circuit Court Judge authorized the search and seizure warrant for the suspects’ residence on 32nd Street. During the search of the residence, detectives located multiple TV’s and several bicycles that had previously been reported stolen. The suspects, later identified as Paul J. Kelly III, 31, and James T. Eckenrod, 44, of Ocean City, were arrested without incident.

As detectives were completing the search warrant, officers were dispatched to another reported burglary at a hotel in the area of 45thStreet and the beach. Hotel management reported that several TV’s had been stolen. TV’s in the suspects’ residence matched the description of those that were reported stolen from 45th Street hotel.

Kelly has been charged with two counts of first degree burglary, two counts of second degree burglary, one count of fourth degree burglary, one count of theft of $100 to less than $1,500, one count of theft $1,500 to less than $25,000, and one count of malicious destruction of property. He was seen by a Maryland District Court Commissioner and transferred to the Worcester County Jail on $20,000 bond. Eckenrod has been charged with two counts of theft of $100 to less than $1,500. He was seen by a Maryland District Court Commissioner and released on personal recognizance.

Somerset County, Maryland- On Wednesday November 21 2018, Troopers from the Maryland State Police Princess Anne Barrack conducted numerous alcohol compliance checks at retail establishments in Somerset County. Troopers ensured that various retail establishments which hold a Somerset County Liquor License were denying sales of alcoholic beverages to persons under the age of 21 years old.

A total of 20 retail establishments were checked. Each of the retail establishments that were subject to an alcohol compliance check, complied with the provisions of the law and denied the sale of alcoholic beverage to minors:

In an effort to keep minors safe during and after the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend, Troopers will continue to conduct thorough and unannounced compliance checks to ensure that alcoholic beverages stay out of minor’s possession. Statistically the highest consumption and purchase of alcohol occurs during the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend. With that the State of Maryland shows an increase in alcohol related collisions, many of these collisions involve serious bodily injury.

The alcohol compliance checks were made possible by funding provided by an in partnership with the Somerset County Local Management Board.

Charges dropped in first federal genital mutilation case in US

A Detroit judge has dropped nearly all the charges against a Michigan doctor accused of performing female genital mutilation on at least nine underage girls, according to court documents.

In a decision filed Tuesday, Judge Bernard Friedman ruled that the federal female genital mutilation law is unconstitutional and that Congress did not have the right to criminalize the practice, and therefore he dismissed six of eight charges in the United States' first federal case involving the procedure.

"Congress overstepped its bounds by legislating to prohibit [female genital mutilation]," Friedman wrote, calling it a "local criminal activity" for the states to regulate, not Congress.

Dr. Jumana Nagarwala is the lead defendant in the case. While the charges of conspiring to commit and committing female genital mutilation, as well as aiding and abetting others in doing so, have been dropped, Nagarwala still faces charges of conspiring to travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct and conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding. She was charged alongside Dr. Fakhruddin Attar, his wife, Farida Attar, and five other residents of Michigan and Minnesota.

Brian Kemp: In Georgia we have secure and fair elections. We make it easy to vote and hard to cheat. And we saw the easy to vote part. We had one 1.4 million more voters in this election than we had in the last governor’s race, a historic turnout.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez mocks Sarah Palin for 'bringing out the big guns' in civics tweet

Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took Sarah Palin to task on Twitter this week after the former Alaska governor mocked the newly elected Democrat for flubbing a statement about the “three chambers of government.”

Mrs. Palin, who ran unsuccessfully for vice president alongside the late Sen. John McCain in 2008, tweeted a dig atMs. Ocasio-Cortez on Monday that read, “YIKES: Ocasio-Cortez Fumbles Basic Civics TWICE In 1 Statement.”

The tweet linked to a post on Mrs. Palin’s website that quoted Ms. Ocasio-Cortez from one of her Instagram videos, in which she claimed incorrectly that the “three chambers of government” include “the presidency, the Senate and the House.”

Mrs. Palin’s tweet pointing out Ms. Ocasio-Cortez ‘s mistake was heavily “ratioed” by angry commenters on Twitter who pointed out her infamous gaffes on the 2008 campaign trail.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez fired back at Mrs. Palin on Tuesday, mocking the former governor for “bringing out the big guns” before she’s even sworn in as congresswoman.

Regulations Threaten to Limit Best Schooling Options for Children

What is the measure of a good school? And who is best positioned to decide what works?

For decades, policymakers and education officials have attempted to bolster school “accountability” by increasing regulations on schools across the board—public, charter, and private. They have tried to do so at the federal level for half a century, with federal intervention in K-12 education hitting a high-water mark under the Bush administration’s No Child Left Behind policy and the Obama administration’s attempts to pressure states into adopting Common Core.

Yet ever-increasing government intervention in schooling has had little positive impact on education outcomes writ large. Math and readingachievement outcomes have been largely stagnant since the 1970s for high school seniors, while graduation rates have seen only modest improvements (and even those figures may be artificially inflated).

About one-third of high school graduates have to take remedial courses in college, one-third of Americans cannot name a single branch of government, and 20 percent of high school graduates who want to join the Army cannot do so because they cannot pass the Armed Forces Qualification Test.

Obama-Appointed San Francisco Judge Jon Tigar Blocks Trump From Refusing Asylum to Caravan Migrants

Judge Jon S. Tigar, an Obama-appointed judge, blocksed President Trump from refusing asylum to economic migrants at the US border.

Democrats are now opening ruling for open borders.

CNN reported:

In an order laced with language accusing President Donald Trump of attempting to rewrite immigration laws, a federal judge based in San Francisco temporarily blocked the government late Monday night from denying asylum to those crossing over the southern border between ports of entry.

Judge Jon S. Tigar of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California said that a policy announced November 9 barring asylum for immigrants who enter outside a legal check point ‘”irreconcilably conflicts” with immigration law and the “expressed intent of Congress.”

“Whatever the scope of the President’s authority, he may not rewrite the immigration laws to impose a condition that Congress has expressly forbidden,” Tigar wrote, adding that asylum seekers would be put at “increased risk of violence and other harms at the border” if the administration’s rule is allowed to go into effect.

The temporary restraining order is effective nationwide and will remain in effect until December 19, when the judge has scheduled another hearing, or further order of the court.

If Trump Ended Birthright Citizenship, He'd Be Enforcing Existing Law

President Donald Trump’s critics have found something else to rend their garments over: his determination to end so-called “birthright citizenship.” Why, they thunder, it’s unconstitutional. And even if it could be changed, it can’t be by executive order.

They’re wrong on both counts.

That probably comes as a surprise to many Americans, including some who consider themselves Trump supporters. Haven’t we all been told for years that if you’re born here, you’re automatically a U.S. citizen? It’s all right there in the 14th Amendment. No matter who your parents are or what their status is, you’re an American. Simple as that.

Or is it? Consider the actual wording: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the States wherein they reside.”

Assateague Begins Pregnancy Testing Process

ASSATEAGUE — National Park Service staffers are spending much of November conducting pregnancy tests on many of the mares on the barrier island.

Each November, Assateague Island National Seashore biologists conduct pregnancy tests on the mares among the population of wild horses on the barrier island in an attempt to predict how many if any new foals are expected to join the herd in the coming year. Essentially, staffers follow the mares and wait for them to defecate.

Samples are collected, frozen and sent to a lab to be analyzed to determine if any of the mares will be expecting next spring. There could one or two new foals next spring or as many as five or six, or possibly even zero. For over two decades, Assateague staffers have been monitoring the birthing habits of the island’s most famed residents and the information collected this month, or more specifically the fecal matter, will tell the story for the coming year.

Assateague staffers know each the mares in the herd by their alpha-numeric name, their markings, the bands they belong to and the areas of the island they tend to frequent. Although it is not entirely scientific, the pregnancy tests generally serve as a good barometer for the expected foals in the next year.

When we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, I will give thanks for property rights.

Property rights allow each individual or family to do what we want with our small piece of the world without having to answer to the whole community.

On Thanksgiving, we'll probably be told to think of America as one big family -- and for some people, government is the head of that family. That idea warms the hearts of America's new "democratic socialists."

But thinking like that nearly destroyed this nation before it began.

The Pilgrims at Plymouth didn't share a feast with Indians after arriving in 1620 because America was so filled with bounty.

Instead, the Pilgrims nearly starved to death. They'd tried to farm collectively -- the entire community owning all the land and sharing everything, like socialists. Gov. William Bradford wrote, "By the spring, our food stores were used up and people grew weak and thin. Some swelled with hunger."

Then, writes Bradford, "After much debate (I) assigned each family a parcel of land... (T)his had very good success, because it made every hand industrious."

Crop production increased because workers reaped direct benefits of their own effort. They stopped hoping someone else would do the hard work.

It's not that the Pilgrims were lazy or weak. They'd risked their lives to cross an ocean to try to build a community from scratch. But in tiny, often imperceptible ways, we each do a less efficient job, and pay less attention to the task at hand, if we think the whole community is responsible for that task.

The Pilgrims were the same people after their switch from collective to individual farming -- from socialism to capitalism, as it were -- but after the switch, they thrived. That led to the first Thanksgiving in 1623.

Do you know back in the late 1800s, early 1900s, when the federal government needed money, they went to J. P. Morgan to borrow it? Before there was a tax code, before there was a tax system, they went to J. P. Morgan to get money. Well, J. P. Morgan was one of the trusts that Teddy Roosevelt busted up.

I’ll tell you, Glenn Reynolds makes a pervasive case in this — and even if he hadn’t made it, it’s a scary thing. You know, I don’t like monopolies, and I really hate government intervention, but this social media stuff is getting totally out of hand, especially, folks… There’s now polling data. I forget where a term. I’ll find it just a second. It’s a credible polling unit. Do you know that 42% of the American people believe that the Russians meddled with votes in 2016? This has been one of the most successful hoaxes that has ever been run in politics.

Report: New Jersey Jail Refused 92 Detainer Requests for Illegal Aliens

A New Jersey county jail refused 92 immigration detainer requests for criminal illegal aliens to be deported, according to a report released Friday by the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI).

The report cited U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) records on law enforcement agencies which failed to acknowledge ICE detainers and revealed that the Middlesex County Jail in New Jersey did not honor a total of 92 immigration retainers.

Of the 92 immigration retainers denied by the jail, 52 of them were for serious crimes — classified by ICE as Level 1 and 2 offenses— such as homicide, sexual assault, and fraud.

I'm interested to see if anyone else is having issues with picture and sound (pixelating) on the Fox News channel? It is the ONLY channel with that issue. I checked Comcast forums, and other people have reported the same.

Might there be a coincidence that Comcast owns MSNBC, CNBC, etc.?

Publishers Notes: I personally have not had any issues with Fox but I will say this, I have been cracking up all week as channel 9, the old WRDE channel now owned by WBOC hasn't had sound THE WHOLE WEEK! After 12 Years, Merry Sherwood Reopens As Special Event Venue

BERLIN – A historic Berlin estate once home to a bed and breakfast has reopened as a venue for weddings and other special events.

The Merry Sherwood Plantation, located on Route 113 in Berlin, has reopened its doors to the public and will serve the community as an event venue for weddings, parties, funeral receptions and more.

Owner Kirk Burbage, who purchased the property in the early 1990s, spent years renovating the estate before opening a bed and breakfast operation on site. While the business shuttered in 2006, the house has continued to host several charitable events that have raised millions of dollars for local organizations.

“I had a wonderful grandmother, Anna Burbage, who was a mainstay in the community …,” he said. “She would have encouraged me to give back to the community and that’s what we’ve done.”

Judge bars US from enforcing Trump asylum ban

A judge has ordered the U.S. government not to enforce a ban on asylum for people who cross the southern border illegally, another court setback for the Trump administration's efforts to impose new immigration restrictions without congressional approval.

U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar agreed Monday with legal groups that immediately sued after President Donald Trump issued a Nov. 9 proclamation saying anyone who crossed the southern border between official ports of entry would be ineligible for asylum. The administration argued that caravans of migrants approaching the southern border made the new restrictions immediately necessary.

"Whatever the scope of the President's authority, he may not rewrite the immigration laws to impose a condition that Congress has expressly forbidden," said Tigar, a nominee of former President Barack Obama.

Trump stopped family separations at the border earlier this year after a global outcry, but it was a federal judge who ruled the administration had to reunify the families. Another judge rejected the administration's request to try to detain migrant families in long-term facilities.

Congresswoman considering House Speaker bid once vouched for former Ohio judge accused of killing ex-wife

Ohio Rep. Marcia Fudge – who has said she’s considering a run for House Speaker – once defended the Cleveland judge accused of murdering his ex-wife.

Former Judge Lance Mason, 51, was arrested Saturday in connection with the death of his former spouse, Aisha Fraser. After allegedly stabbing Fraser, Mason fled the scene and crashed his car into a police cruiser before being arrested, officials told Cleveland.com.

In 2014, Mason pleaded guilty to charges of domestic violence and attempted felonious assault after he attacked Fraser. Police said he viciously chocked, punched, slammed and bit his wife – and in front of his two daughters.

Dear Family,

I'm not dead yet. Thanksgiving is still important to me. If being in my Last Will and Testament is important to you, then you might consider being with me for my favorite holiday. Dinner is at 2:00. Not 2:15. Not 2:05. Two. 2:00! Arrive late and you get what's left over.

Last year, that moron Marshall fried a turkey in one of those contraptions and practically burned the deck off the house. This year, the only peanut oil used to make the meal will be from the secret scoop of peanut butter I add to the carrot soup.

Jonathan, your last new wife was an idiot. You don't arrive at someone's house on Thanksgiving needing to use the oven and the stove. Honest to God, I thought you might have learned after two wives - date them longer and save us all the agony of another divorce.

Now, the house rules are slightly different This year because I have decided that 47% of you don't know how to take care of nice things. Paper plates and red Solo cups might be bad for the environment, but I'll be gone soon and that will be your problem to deal with.

House Rules:
1. The University of Texas no longer plays Texas A&M. The television stays off during the meal.
2. The "no cans for kids" rule still exists. We are using 2 liter bottles because your children still open a third can before finishing the first two. Parents can fill a child's cup when it is empty. All of the cups have names on them and I'll be paying close attention to refills.
3. Chloe, last year we were at Trudy's house and I looked the other way when your Jell-O salad showed up. This year, if Jell-O salad comes in the front door it will go right back out the back door with the garbage. Save yourself some time, honey. You've never been a good cook and you shouldn't bring something that wiggles more than you. Buy something from the bakery.
4. Grandmothers give grandchildren cookies and candy. That is a fact of life. Your children can eat healthy at your home. At my home, they can eat whatever they like as long as they finish it.
5. I cook with bacon and bacon grease. That's nothing new. Your being a vegetarian doesn't change the fact that stuffing without bacon is like egg salad without eggs. Even the green bean casserole has a little bacon grease in it. That's why it tastes so good. Not eating bacon is just not natural. And as far as being healthy... look at me. I've outlived almost everyone I know.
6. Salad at Thanksgiving is a waste of space.
7. I do not like cell phones. Leave them in the car.
8. I do not like video cameras. There will be 32 people here. I am sure you can capture lots of memories without the camera pointed at me.
9. Being a mother means you have to actually pay attention to the kids. I have nice things and I don't put them away just because company is coming over. Mary, watch your kids and I'll watch my things.
10. Rhonda, a cat that requires a shot twice a day is a cat that has lived too many lives. I think staying home to care for the cat is your way of letting me know that I have lived too many lives too. I can live with that. Can you?
11. Words mean things. I say what I mean. Let me repeat: You don't need to bring anything means you don't need to bring anything. And if I did tell you to bring something, bring it in the quantity I said. Really, this doesn't have to be difficult.
12. Domino's and cards are better than anything that requires a battery or an on/off switch. That was true when you were kids and it's true now that you have kids.
13. Showing up for Thanksgiving guarantees presents at Christmas. Not showing up guarantees a card that may or may not be signed.
In memory of your Grandfather, the back fridge will be filled with beer. Drink until it is gone. I prefer wine anyway. But one from each family needs to be the designated driver.
I really mean all of the above.

DNA evidence leads to closure in 1969 murder of Jane Britton

A serial rapist who later died of cancer has been identified as the killer of a 23-year-old Harvard graduate student in 1969, ending a nearly 50-year-old mystery, authorities announced Tuesday.

Advances in DNA technology and testing led authorities in Massachusetts to identify Michael Sumpter as the man who raped and killed anthropology student Jane Sanders Britton on Jan. 7, 1969, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan told reporters during a news conference.

“For the past 50 years, the murder of Jane Britton has intrigued members of the public and posed a number of investigatory challenges for law enforcement,” Ryan said. “I am today confident that the mystery of who killed Jane Britton has finally been solved.”

North Carolina principal accused of raping 12-year-old student found dead

A North Carolina principal accused of raping a 12-year-old student was found dead Friday of a self-inflicted injury, police said.

Richard Omar Knight, the principal of Dillard Academy Charter School in Goldsboro, N.C., was found in a wooded area with a self-inflicted injury, the Goldsboro Police Department said. The 35-year-old man’s body was discovered by a couple of hunters, The News & Observer reported.

“The hunters’ deer cameras recorded Mr. Knight in the wooded area at approximately 12:36 a.m. on Friday morning. He is alone in the video and appears to be carrying a blanket. Further investigation led to the discovery of Mr. Knight’s Chevrolet Cruze at a Petro Mart on Buckhorn Road. No foul play is suspected in connection with Mr. Knight’s death,” the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

An autopsy will be performed, authorities said.

Pennsylvania Faces More Economic Decline Under Gov. Wolf

Pennsylvania is set to continue on the path of rapid economic decline which the Commonwealth has followed since Governor Tom Wolf took office in 2015. Once named the most liberal governor in America, Wolf recently earned himself a second term in Harrisburg after defeating GOP challenger Scott Wagner.

Since taking office, big-government tax-and-spend policies and and burdensome regulation have been at the center stage of Governor Wolf’s agenda. He proposed a budget increase for every fiscal year since his election, and pushed eleven different tax hikes in his first term alone. These attempts at raising taxes all shared one common theme: each disproportionately affected the majority of middle-class families in Pennsylvania, despite the Governor’s claim to be an ally for middle income residents and families. Most notoriously, Governor Wolf consistently refused to sign budgets put forth by the legislature, despite the GOP majority’s efforts to push bipartisan budgets through for the sake of Pennsylvanians.

Last week, Pennsylvania’s Independent Fiscal Office found that beginning in July of 2019, the Commonwealth is projected to see a 1.7 billion dollar deficit. This increase can be attributed to a number of things, but the IFO’s Executive Director Matthew Knittel points to increases in expenditures:

“Expenditures are expected to increase by $2.7 billion in FY 2019-20, which is roughly $1.7 billion more than the projected increase in net revenues,” he said, per The Morning Call.

CDC creates task force to find cause of spike in polio-like illness afflicting kids

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is putting together a task force aimed at finding and containing the cause of a spike of a rare illness paralyzing children.

The CDC said on Monday that the task force would include various scientific, medical, and public health experts to investigate why the illness, called acute flaccid myelitis, has increased in the U.S. over the past couple of years. There is no known cause of the disease, which affects the central nervous system.

“This task force will ensure that the full capacity of the scientific community is engaged and working together to provide important answers and solutions to actively detect, more effectively treat, and ultimately prevent AFM and its consequences,” CDC Director Robert Redfield said in a release on Monday.

Months ago, California Gov. Jerry Brown urged state lawmakers to loosen restrictive logging regulations put in place to appease environmentalists -- a move that appears to have confirmed that President Trump's recent critiques of state logging practices was correct.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel reported back in August that Brown was proposing one of the most significant changes to the state's logging rules in nearly half a century.

"Gov. Jerry Brown is proposing broad new changes to California’s logging rules that would allow landowners to cut larger trees and build temporary roads without obtaining a permit as a way to thin more forests across the state," the paper reported.

Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and senior adviser, sometimes used a private email address to send official White House correspondence throughout 2017. The flagship Leftmedia #Resistance publication, The Washington Post, broke the story last night and quickly drew the obvious parallel: “The discovery alarmed some advisers to President Trump, who feared that his daughter’s prac­tices bore similarities to the personal email use of Hillary Clinton, an issue he made a focus of his 2016 campaign. He attacked his Democratic challenger as untrustworthy and dubbed her ‘Crooked Hillary’ for using a personal email account as secretary of state.” Leftists came out of the woodwork to throw the “lock her up” chant back in Trump’s face.

Hogan Administration Awards More than $2.5 Million to Combat Violence Against Women

Funding Through STOP Violence Against Women Grant Program
ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention (GOCCP) today announced more than $2.5 million in grants from the federal STOP Violence Against Women Grant Program. STOP, which stands for Services, Training, Officers, Prosecutors, is awarded to public and non-profit organizations that serve victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.
“There is no more important job than keeping our citizens safe,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “This funding will help connect women who have been victims of a crime to the vital services and resources they need to recover and rebuild their lives.”
Under federal guidelines, 25 percent of the funding is allocated to prosecution; 25 percent to law enforcement; 30 percent to victim services/non-profits; five percent to court entities; and 10 percent is allocated at the state’s discretion. Funding from the program may be used for such services as crisis intervention, therapy, prosecution of domestic violence and sexual assault cases, staff training, advocacy and accompaniment, temporary shelter, and sexual assault forensic examinations.
“This is an important program that helps and supports women who have been victimized by crime,” said V. Glenn Fueston, Jr., GOCCP Executive Director. “The funding announced today will help those organizations and agencies to strengthen their programs and strategies to reduce domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in Maryland. Making Maryland safer is a comprehensive approach in which we are all working together.”
