Praise for Kavanaugh Sweeps In

Conservatives, some liberals back Trump pick for SCOTUS

Praise for Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s nominee to fill the Supreme Court seat being vacated by Justice Anthony Kennedy, has poured in since his Monday night nomination.

Trump announced his nomination of the 53-year-old D.C.-Circuit appeals judge from the White House in primetime, highlighting his "impeccable credentials, unsurpassed qualifications, and a proven commitment to equal justice under the law."

"There is no one in America more qualified for this position and no one more deserving," Trump said.

Numerous prominent voices agreed, echoing Trump’s praise for his nominee.

Two Sides To Every Coin: When "Security Measures" Become Imprisonment

The most recent article I covered was a piece last week on the illegal alien situation and the president’s handling of it. This is a problem that has plagued the U.S. for decades, and as I wrote before, I agree completely with the way the president has been handling it. Let’s put the president “aside” in this article, however, because no matter how well-intentioned he is, there are forces at work in the U.S. that hold more power than he does.

Subtleties are present that are usually either overlooked or intentionally downplayed so as not to “jar” the consciousness of those who see them. Yes, we need increased border security on the Mexican border, and we need to stem the tide (the “tsunami” is more appropriate) flooding this country with illegal aliens.

Lisa Page Lying About Access To FBI Docs In Excuse To Bail On Testimony: Meadows

GOP Congressional investigators are furious after former FBI attorney Lisa Page issued a statement through her attorney notifying a jount House panel that she would ignore a subpoena to appear on Wednesday because she wasn't allowed access to documents by the FBI.

Page's attorney, Amy Jeffress, claimed that "Lisa and I went to the FBI today to review the materials that were previously produced to Congress related to her propsed interview, but after waiting for more than three hours, we were not provided with any documents."

"The Committees have not honored this request," Jeffress said. "As a result, Lisa is not going to appear for an interview at this time."

Liberals Are Furious Over the Nomination of [Insert Name Here] to Supreme Court

Behold the rallying cry of a new generation of manufactured outrage: "Stop [blank]!"

A crowd of protesters waited at the Supreme Court building Monday night, Resistance Markers in hand, ready to scrawl on their posters the name of Donald Trump's nominee who would bring about the End Times.

"They had all these Mad Lib signs," Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse said afterward on Fox News, smiling.

He was right to be amused. It's difficult to take someone's outrage seriously when a judge with 12 years on the Circuit Court is tried and convicted of destroying women's rights and health care in the time it takes to write BRETT KAVANAUGH in Magic Marker.

In Unprecedented Move, Rosenstein Asks 100s Of Prosecutors To Review SCOTUS Pick's Records

In a somewhat unprecedented move, Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein has asked the offices of all 93 U.S. attorneys to each provide up to three federal prosecutors to assist the Justice Department in reviewing government records of President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Even The New York Times admits this move is "an unusual insertion of politics into federal law enforcement."

While the Justice Department has helped work on previous Supreme Court nominations, department lawyers in Washington typically carry out that task, not prosecutors who pursue criminal investigations nationwide.

Mr. Rosenstein’s email, which had the subject line “Personal Message to U.S. Attorneys From the Deputy A.G.,” included the sentence, “We need your help in connection with President Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to serve on the Supreme Court.”

Former law enforcement officials told the Times that Rosenstein's request is troubling.

"It’s flat-out wrong to have career federal prosecutors engaged in a political process like the vetting of a Supreme Court nominee. It takes them away from the mission they’re supposed to be fulfilling, which is effective criminal justice enforcement," Christopher Hunter, a former F.B.I. agent and federal prosecutor for almost 11 years, told the publication.

But Michael Zubrensky, a former Justice Department lawyer who oversaw the agency's Office of Legal Policy, saidKavanaugh's long paper trail could be the reason for Rosenstein's request.

Sarah Isgur Flores, spokeswoman for the Department of Justice, told the Times that prosecutors have been used in the past to vet Supreme Court nominees. "[T]he scope of the production of executive branch documents we’ve been asked for is many, many times as large," she said.

Rosenstein also wrote that he would need the equivalent of 100 full-time attorneys to work on the nominee's confirmation hearing.

Trump Is Cutting Off Big Labor From Skimming Americans’ Medicaid Payments And Unions Are Furious

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is blistering at a proposed regulation that would prevent the union from siphoning fees from American workers’ Medicaid payments.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced a proposed rule Tuesday that would require Medicaid payments to go directly to healthcare workers, ending a 2014 Obama-era rule that let third parties, such as unions and insurance companies, skim off a share of the paycheck before the worker saw any of it.

The SEIU, one of the largest public-sector unions in the U.S., referred to the proposed rule “as part of the [Trump] administration’s broad, coordinated attack against working people.”

“The proposed rule targets these home care workers and is designed to stop them from contributing their own wages to support their union in the same way that teachers, police and firefighters do,” the SEIU said in a statement. “This proposal is a transparent attempt to interfere with workers’ freedom to choose to join together in a union and advocate for higher wages, better training, and basic benefits like affordable healthcare and paid sick time that are crucial to ensure quality home care for our parents, grandparents and children.”

University of Wyoming's 'cowboy' slogan rustles up some controversy

"The world needs more cowboys," the University of Wyoming says in a new marketing slogan.

But apparently not everyone agrees.

The slogan has drawn backlash from critics, including faculty members and Native American groups, who call the catchphrase sexist, racist and counterproductive to university recruitment -- because it excludes women and people of color, Reuters reported.

"Honestly, I thought it was a joke at first," associate professor Ellen Currano told theChronicle of Higher Education. "I thought it was a joke. And then I looked it up on the university web page and saw that no, this was, in fact, serious."

The university’s mascot is a “cowboy” riding a bucking horse with hat in hand.

The Drive To Abolish ICE: Contempt For Law Masquerading As Social Justice

Few things are more dangerous than a bad idea on a roll. And there is no better current example than the bandwagon of public opinion demanding that Congress abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This view, until recently limited to the radical fringes, suddenly has gone mainstream. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and other lawmakers have announced their desire to open our borders and block deportations. Two House members are preparing a bill to abolish ICE. Like the street activists pressuring them, these people believe that controlling immigration is wrong. America, they insist, is a global sanctuary, not a sovereign nation. That’s why they see President Trump, who governs as if America were a nation, as embodying evil.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, is the agency guarding our borders and removing people who lack authorization to be here. Established under the reorganized former Immigration and Naturalization Service following the September 11, 2001 Islamic terrorist attacks, this agency is our primary line of defense against people from abroad who threaten our physical and economic security. Like any government agency, it sometimes falls short of its mission. But the campaign to repeal ICE is not about promoting efficiency or integrity. It is about achieving a sentimentalized ideal of human rights devoid of any understanding of the logic of nationhood.

This campaign has hit the streets with a vengeance. Last week, protestors in Portland, Oregon encamped outside an ICE field office until they were removed by federal SWAT officers in the wee hours of Thursday, June 28. The organizing group, Occupy ICE PDX, tweeted, “Arrest us today, we’ll grow stronger tomorrow!” In Washington, D.C. later that day, police arrested 575 persons for blocking access to the Hart Senate Office Building. And in Atlanta on the night of July 4, a mob of roughly 30 to 50 radical protestors, some wearing masks, clashed with police during an anti-ICE march from Woodruff Park to Centennial Olympic Park.

CDC Issues Warning About Kellogg’s Honey Smacks: ‘Do Not Eat This Cereal’

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning about Honey Smacks, a brand of Kellogg’s cereal, saying it has been linked to an outbreak of salmonella that has already infected up to 100 people across 33 states.

The health agency’s warning said, “Do not eat this cereal,” the Associated Press reported.

The warning is a blanket statement, one not based on any particular product expiration date. Customers should either throw away the product or may return their box of cereal to a store for a full refund.

The CDC reported that 24 of the people affected have been hospitalized after becoming infected with bacteria. Symptoms develop between 12 and 72 hours after infection and feature a fever, cramps, or diarrhea.

Lisa Page's lawyer says she's willing to testify 'later this month'

Lisa Page, the former FBI lawyer whose anti-Trump text messages raised suspicions of bias in the agency, claimed through her lawyer Wednesday that there is "no basis for claims" that she is hiding information from Congress and is still willing to testify, less than a day after she refused to testify in a House hearing.

Page, the ex-FBI lawyer whose extramarital affair with fellow FBI employee Peter Strzok was examined in a Justice Department watchdog report, was subpoenaed by the House Judiciary Committee, but said Tuesday night she would not testify.

But Page’s attorney, Amy Jeffress, said Page is still willing to talk later this month, and said she didn't appear Wednesday because the committee had not provided enough detail on the scope of lawmakers’ questions, and the FBI had not provided documents for her to review ahead of the testimony.

Ben Shapiro: When Abortion Becomes a Sacrament

This week, amid widespread Democratic tumult regarding the selection of a replacement for Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, alleged comedian Michelle Wolf paid tribute to the most important facet of American life: abortion. On her Netflix show on Sunday, Wolf dressed up in red, white and blue and shrieked into the camera, “God bless abortions, and God bless America!” She explained: “Women, if you need an abortion, get one! If you want an abortion, get one! … And women, don’t forget: You have the power to give life and men will try to control that. Don’t let them!”

Along with that inane outburst, she justified abortion itself. “Look,” she stated, “access to abortion is good and important. Some people say abortion is ‘killing a baby.’ It’s not. It’s stopping a baby from happening.”

Well, some people say Michelle Wolf is killing comedy. She’s not. She’s stopping comedy from happening.

Franchot opponent claims ethics violation over comptroller coins

Comptroller Peter Franchot’s little known Republican opponent, Anjali Reed Phukan, said she plans to file an ethics complaint this week against the three-term incumbent for passing out embossed medallions that bear the authority line of his campaign committee.

Franchot has been passing out the coins to thousands of people for at least five years, reviving a tradition started by the late Comptroller Louie Goldstein. He served in the office for 39 years until his death 20 years ago this month.

Goldstein’s golden coins, simpler and lighter, bore his legendary send off,
“God bless you all real good.” It too bore the authority line of his campaign treasurer.

In 2013, Franchot told the Sun’s Michael Dresser, “Everyone asks me from time to time about where my gold coins are,” he said. “I finally got sick of it and had a really nice medallion made.”

Ex-Black Panther leader to get $2.2M from Oakland after city councilwoman's attack

A former leader of the Black Panther Party will receive $2.2 million from the city of Oakland, Calif., to settle a 2015 case in which she was physically attacked by a city councilwoman.

The settlement, equivalent to the salaries of about 30 entry-level police officers, consists of $1.2 million in damages for Elaine Brown and a similar fee for her lawyers. Oakland’s city council approved the settlement Tuesday without any debate, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The payout, to be paid from the city’s coffers, comes after more than two years of legal battles, in which the city rejected the ex-Black Panther leader’s request for $1 million following her confrontation with councilwoman Desley Brooks.

No one can use Mueller probe to hold up Supreme Court nominee

In a city where necessity has long been the mother of invention, the retirement of Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy has unleashed a frenzy of creative arguments of why President Trump should not be able to appoint a second member to the Supreme Court. Panic can lead to many things, but principle is not one of them.

According to Democratic politicians and advocates, there is a longstanding principle that any nomination by Trump at this time would be clearly improper. This convenient discovery was explained by Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) in a judiciary hearing, where he insisted that, as “a subject of an ongoing criminal investigation,” any nomination or confirmation must wait “until the Mueller investigation is concluded.”

Maryland Fishing Report

Underwater photo of striped bass school
If you spend enough time hanging around seasoned commercial or sport fishermen, you’ll often hear that it’s impossible to figure out why finfish and blue crabs are in certain places at certain times.
These thoughts came to mind this week as I spoke to some of the most respected captains on the Chesapeake about how this season’s fishing is shaping up. There is not enough space to share all of the classic statements, but many captains repeated the two that I have heard throughout my life on the water: “No two years are the same,” and “Just when you think you have them figured out, they make a fool of you.”

The use of circle hooks when chumming for striped bass is slowly gaining acceptance, but we understand it’s not an easy transition for many, due to the instinct of trying to set the hook when a fish picks up a bait.
Studies at the Oxford Lab in the 1990s showed that circle hooks in the 9/0, 10/0 size range gave the best results in preventing deep hooking of 17 to 20-inch striped bass. Deep hooking did occur with circle hooks in the 4/0, 6/0 size range. Also there are a lot of different circle hook designs out there and some of them tend to look like a hybrid. The point of the hook should be pointing perpendicular to the shank of the hook.
One last item is that many captains have learned to snell their circle hooks to the leader to ensure a straight pull, which seems to help a lot with the hook engaging the side of the mouth properly. Anglers will also learn the best ways of placing the circle hook in a bait by experience, and when live liningalways remember when a fish is swallowing a prey fish they swallow it head first, so try hooking your live bait more toward the tail end.

Border Patrol claims NYC Mayor de Blasio illegally crossed border

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and his security detail violated both Mexican and U.S. immigration laws by crossing the border on foot during a visit near El Paso, Texas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection alleges in a letter obtained by The Associated Press. The mayor's office flatly denied the allegation.

De Blasio, a fierce critic of the Trump administration's immigration policies, went to the Texas border with about 20 other mayors from around the country on June 21, the day after President Donald Trump signed an order stopping family separations at the border.

More than 2,300 families were separated as a result of the administration's zero-tolerance policy, which criminally prosecutes anyone caught crossing illegally. The mayors said Trump had failed to address a humanitarian crisis of his own making.

De Blasio went to a holding facility for immigrant children but was denied entry. He then went to Mexico and crossed into the U.S. to get a view of the facility. The New York Police Department runs de Blasio's security detail.

College Professors Organize Against Free Speech on the Nation’s Campuses

The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) is urging its members to fight against legislation designed to protect free speech on college campuses — and is framing the effort as a right-wing conspiracy.

You read that correctly. The nation’s largest membership group of college professors, based in Washington, D.C., is flexing its muscle against measures to protect the First Amendment, as a piece in 'Campus Reform' explained.

“Archbishop Charles Chaput once said, ‘Evil preaches tolerance until it is dominant and then tries to silence good,’” Dr. Everett Piper, president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University and author of “Not a Day Care: The Devastating Consequences of Abandoning Truth,” told LifeZette about the free speech issue.

The Left is now skilled at harassing conservatives and suppressing their free speech rights on our country’s college campuses. While the left-leaning AAUP is painting itself as a victim, left-leaning professors — social justice warriors in charge of the classrooms — have been the ones relentlessly demonizing conservative colleagues and students with diverse viewpoints.

Liberal Democratic group seeks dirt on SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh

A liberal Democratic group says it is leaving “no stone unturned” to get its hands on any damaging information about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh amid the upcoming contentious confirmation battle in the U.S. Senate.

American Bridge, a liberal political action committee that raised nearly $20 million in the last election, reportedly sent one of its political researchers to the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas this week to comb through its voluminous archives for any troubling information about Kavanaugh's five years as a staff secretary and aide to the former president.

The liberal PAC revealed Tuesday that it will pursue multiple Freedom of Information Act requests and send its operatives to the library to find out about Kavanaugh's political work. Researchers will also look at the nominee’s corporate and nonprofit ties and other records.

The group admits it won’t be focusing on Kavanaugh's career or conduct legal vetting, but instead will target his personal life and views on issues in a bid to uncover “new information to add to the conversation.”

Woke: CBS News Surprised to Realize Border is Open and Unsafe

A CBS News reporter appeared shocked and afraid after witnessing an illegal border crossing near Roma, Texas. The reporter said he and his film crew were threatened by a “scout” who told them the area was not safe and to go away.

CBS News reporter David Begnaud traveled to Roma, Texas, this week to cover a story about Texas landowners getting notices about a proposed border wall. While shooting a segment along the river border, he was shocked to see a group of illegal immigrants making their way across the river in broad daylight a few hundred yards from a U.S. Customs and Border Protection port of entry. He was even more shocked when a man with a two-way radio approached them and told them to leave.

Today, on assignment in Mexico, producer Mark Hooper & I saw a “scout” guide a smuggler across the Rio Grande, in a raft, to deliver 2 people to the U.S. who entered illegally right near a legal border crossing.
The scout threatened us.

“What was surprising for us to see is that this happened in broad daylight about a hundred yards from that international bridge,” Begnaud said while gesturing to the port of entry, “where there are dozens of Customs and Border Protection officers.”

“This is an example of why the Trump Administration has been pushing for a border wall,” Begnaud explained.

Dems lining up in a circular firing squad

There is strong evidence today that the Democrats are heading for a crack-up. Their coalition of identity politics groups is held together only by the desire for power, and now they face the prospect of the longed for 2018 "blue wave" turning out to be as mistaken as their prediction of President Hillary Clinton winning in 2016 by a large margin.

Yesterday, a prominent practitioner of identity politics called for the old guard of the party's House leadership to step aside and allow for "generational change." Rep. Linda Sanchez is the highest-ranking Latina in the House and is number five in Democratic leadership in the House as vice chair of the Democratic Conference. Since the Democrats have made a large wager on an increasingly Hispanic electorate becoming the major base of party growth – the "browning of America" strategy – her views cannot be dismissed.

Leftist Activist Blames Trump For Racist 'White Mother' Attacking Elderly Man. That's Not What Happened.

On the Fourth of July, a elderly Mexican man from the Los Angeles area was brutally beaten with a brick and allegedly told to "go back to your country."

According to KABC News, Rodolfo Rodriguez passed a woman who looked upset while walking down the street. "The woman pushed him and dropped him. She took the block of concrete and hit him in his head many times," said one witness. Several other men joined in and helped beat Rodriguez, too, "at times using what appeared to be a brick or a piece of concrete," the witness added.

Rodriguez suffered a broken cheek bone, ribs, and numerous bruises.

The heartbreaking story instantly went viral, and leftists were quick to blame President Donald Trump for the attack. In one glaring example, leading leftist activist and president of The New Agenda Amy Siskind boldly stated that the unidentified assailant was a "white mother," adding that the attack was a direct result of the man in the White House. "This is Donald Trump," she declared.

"A white mother beat a 92-year-old Hispanic man with a brick in the face on Independence Day," she wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted. "He has legitimized the worst of us: 'Go back to your country, why are you here, bad things.' F*** racist [White House advisor] Stephen Miller and his $80 sushi."

Millennials say 'democratic socialism,' but what they want is free stuff

Surprise primary victories by "democratic socialists" in New York and Pennsylvania have created a buzz about millennials and socialism. Bernie Sanders was the prophet of this movement, attracting strong support among young people for his ideas about democratic socialism in the 2016 presidential campaign. Still, people were surprised when a YouGov poll showed that young people (under 30) preferred socialism to capitalism 43 to 32 percent. With these recent political wins, some wonder whether the Democratic Party will undergo a socialist realignment, just as Donald Trump led a populist reinvention of the Republican Party.

To all of this I say: Not so fast. First, there is a widespread misunderstanding of what democratic socialism means and what millennials really want. Socialism is an economic system that involves collective (especially governmental) ownership of the means of production and distribution. It stands in contrast to a capitalist, market-regulated ownership of business. When you add the word “democratic” to it — which is presumably done to soften the impact of an historically unpopular term in the U.S. — you are essentially saying the system is chosen democratically, not imposed by some kind of totalitarian regime as in Russia or Venezuela.

Pfizer Reverses Drug Price Hikes After Call with Trump and HHS Secretary

Major U.S. drug manufacturer Pfizer agreed to roll back July 1 drug price hikes after an “extensive discussion” with President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

“Just talked with Pfizer CEO and @SecAzar on our drug pricing blueprint,” Trump tweeted Tuesday night after arriving in Brussels, Belgium, for the NATO summit. “Pfizer is rolling back price hikes, so American patients don’t pay more.”

“We applaud Pfizer for this decision and hope other companies do the same,” wrote Trump. “Great news for the American people!”

The company’s price hikes on 100 products went into effect on July 1. It was the company’s second price hike this year. While prices on many drugs were increased, there were also decreases on a few of their products.

Trump reacted sharply to news of Pfizer’s price hikes, proclaiming, “Pfizer & others should be ashamed that they have raised drug prices for no reason.” He accused the company of taking advantage of the poor and defenseless while giving bargains to countries in Europe and elsewhere. He warned, “We will respond!” It wasn’t clear at the time what that response would be.

SCOTUS: It's Not About Right v. Left. It's About Liberty v. Tyranny.

“The opinion which gives to the judges the right to decide what laws are constitutional and what not, not only for themselves, in their own sphere of action, but for the Legislature and Executive also in their spheres, would make the Judiciary a despotic branch.” —Thomas Jefferson (1804)

In my 2016 endorsement of Donald Trump for president, I noted my response to the question I had been asked for months: “How will you vote?”

It was the same response I’ve given every quadrennial election since I cast my first presidential vote: “For our Constitution — for the candidate who is most likely to nominate constitutionally constructionist judges to the Supreme Court, those who will promote Liberty over tyranny.”

Encouraging the “Never Trump” crowd, some of whom were considering sitting out the election, I asked them to consider “that the outcome of the November election will not only determine our president for the next four years but also the composition of the Supreme Court for the next quarter-century.” Sitting that one out was tantamount to a vote for Hillary Clinton.

Ten days after his inauguration, President Trump put forth the first tangible evidence that his victory was a resounding triumph for our Constitution and for the Liberty and Rule of Law it enshrines.

He nominated Neil Gorsuch to replace the late, great Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. His confirmation rendered the Supreme Court balance with four justices who abide by their oaths “to support and defend” our Constitution (Chief Justice John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Gorsuch), four despotic jurists (Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan), and one swing vote — Justice Anthony Kennedy.

With that nomination, Trump defied the Democrat Party statists who seek to subordinate our Constitution to the rule of men, the irrevocable terminus of which is tyranny, and began the SCOTUS reformation.

What Kavanaugh Was Secretly Caught Doing Hours After Trump’s Nomination

Kavanaugh was serving meals to the homeless outside Catholic Charities in downtown Washington, less than 48 hours after he was tapped to succeed Justice Anthony Kennedy.

HUD to ban smoking in all public housing starting July 31

WASHINGTON, DC — Smoking will no longer be allowed inside public housing nationwide starting on July 31.

The ban from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department was announced back in November 2016 but gave Public Housing Agencies until July 31, 2018 to comply.

HUD explained that the smoke-free rule will reduce damage and maintenance costs tied to smoking, cutback on secondhand smoke and lower the risk of accidental fires.

As part of the policy, no smoking will be allowed inside any public housing buildings or within 25 feet of those buildings. Each housing agency can also create additional smoke-free areas if they choose.

According to HUD, at least 600 of its more than 3,100 Public Housing Agencies across the country already had smoke-free policies in place when the rule was announced in 2016.

House Democrat: ‘China declared trade war,’ not Trump

President Trump isn’t to blame for the outbreak of a trade war with China, a senior House Democrat argued Wednesday.

“We're now told that this is Trump's trade war,” Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., said during a Foreign Affairs subcommittee hearing. “No, China declared trade war on the United States, 18 years ago.”

Sherman traced the economic clash back to 2000, when lawmakers formalized China’s privileged economic relationship by voting in favor of “permanent normal trade relations” with the Communist power. That legislation codified what previously had been known as “most-favored nation” status in trade with the U.S. And Sherman, who voted against the bill at the time, warned colleagues not to flip-flop on the policy out of hostility to Trump.

MSNBC’s Ruhle Accurately Explains Trump’s NATO Stance

MSNBC’s morning news host Stephanie Ruhle dove into President Donald Trump’s anger with fellow NATO allies on her show Wednesday morning.

“He has been complaining for years that NATO countries do not live up to their promise of spending 2 percent of their GDP on defense,” Ruhle said. “Right now just five countries are above that mark, including the United States.”

The other four countries that have reached their target of spending 2 percent of their GDP are Greece, the United Kingdom, Estonia, and Latvia, although they do have an additional six years to reach that mark.

Race Only Matters If The Hater Is White According To Washington Post

Washington Post Article Buries Race of Hate Attack Culprit in Fifth Paragraph

We've been told over and over again that all white people are racist. We've also been told over and over that people who aren't white can't possibly be racist. Of course, both these claims are absolute bovine excrement. However, they have created a fear of appearing to be racist, which makes people do stupid things.

A Washington Post article reports that a 91-year-old Mexican man was brutally attacked in the U.S. by someone with a brick, and that the woman who allegedly conducted the attack yelled: "Go back to your country."

A hate crime, right? Well, no -- it seems the attacker was a black woman.

The man, permanent American resident Rodolfo Rodriguez, apparently bumped the woman's daughter on the sidewalk and was beaten for his transgressions. The attacker's race wasn't mentioned until the article's fifth paragraph.

We've seen other hate crimes reported by the media that later turned out to be hoaxes, yet the early news reports had prominently mentioned the race and gender of the attackers -- all white men.

James Comey’s Leaker Friend – Guess Who His Neighbor Is?

James Comey’s friend, Columbia University professor Daniel Richman, leaked classified information that Comey gave him. During this leaking period, Richman was apartment-building neighbors with a partner at the law firm that strategized with Fusion GPS operative Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian plant who set up Don Jr. in Trump Tower.

“Yes, he is my neighbor,” Amy Wenzel, a partner at Cozen O’Connor, confirmed in a phone conversation with Big League Politics, confirming that they spoke. They live near each other in a Brooklyn high-rise.

Cozen O’Connor managing partner Howard Schweitzer is listed here on a DOJ form from an investigation into the breaking of lobbying laws by Russians trying to repeal the Magnitsky Act — which was just a front to get Russians in the room with Don Jr. It turns out that Natalia Veselnitskaya was actually operating out of the Cozen O’Connor offices.

Caught on Camera: Tedra Cobb Tells Supporters She Wants Assault Rifle Ban But 'Cannot Say That' in Public

Upstate Dem a gun grabber at heart: 'I said they should be banned and I just said to her, I want you to know Cindy, I cannot say that'

Tedra Cobb, the Democratic candidate in New York's 21st Congressional District, told a group of teenage supporters that she supports a ban on certain firearms but won't say so publicly for fear of losing her election.

"When I was at this thing today, it was the first table I was at, a woman said, ‘How do you feel about assault rifles?' And I said they should be banned," Cobb can be heard saying in the video recorded by one of the attendees. "And I said, you know, people were getting up to go, to go get their lunch because it was a buffet, and I just said to her, I want you to know Cindy, I cannot say that."

When the woman pushed back on Cobb keeping quiet on how she feels about banning certain firearms, Cobb said coming out in favor of a gun ban would lead to her losing her bid against Republican incumbent Elise Stefanik.

"And she said, ‘Well, I want you to' and I said, ‘I won't win,'" Cobb said. "I said Moms Demand [Action] says, and Tricia Pleau said, ‘Do not say that you want an assault rifle ban because you will not win.'"

Q&A: Wider Knowledge About Cancer Prevention Would Reduce U.S. Deaths

There has been a lot of progress in the fight against cancer. Cancer death rates have dropped, but the gains haven't been experienced equally.

Cancer death rates remain high for some minorities, including African-Americans. There are geographic differences, too. Death rates for breast and colorectal cancers have declined faster in New England than in other parts of the country. Cancer is also more likely to be fatal for people living in poverty or those without a college degree.

Dr. Otis Brawley, chief medical and scientific officer of the American Cancer Society, says many cancer deaths could be averted if these demographic gaps were narrowed. He discussed the future of cancer prevention, screening and treatment, as the American Cancer Society lays out its vision for cancer control in a series of articles that are being published in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians starting Tuesday.

These interview highlights have been edited for length and clarity.

Can you put the current cancer situation into perspective? Where have we been, and how far have we come?
