"The world needs more cowboys," the University of Wyoming says in a new marketing slogan.
But apparently not everyone agrees.
The slogan has drawn backlash from critics, including faculty members and Native American groups, who call the catchphrase sexist, racist and counterproductive to university recruitment -- because it excludes women and people of color, Reuters reported.
"Honestly, I thought it was a joke at first," associate professor Ellen Currano told theChronicle of Higher Education. "I thought it was a joke. And then I looked it up on the university web page and saw that no, this was, in fact, serious."
The university’s mascot is a “cowboy” riding a bucking horse with hat in hand.

Historically, people of color and women as well were working "Cowboys" all their lives, so, no, not exclusive ay all.
ReplyDeleteTry again, snowflakes!
Historically, "cowboy" became a romantic term, embodying the spirit of western pioneers. Yes, the westward movement was brutal, but we were not the same people as we are now. Or is it that it uncomfortably reminds of us of what we still are, but deny?

I'm serious about hanging them, that's for sure.
Maybe let their toes barely touch the floor, so sooner or later they get tired of standing on their tip toes and give up the struggle.
Watching them would be absolutely hilarious.
And well deserved, too.
