Dershowitz: ACLU 'Sunk to New Low' in Supporting Cohen Raid

The American Civil Liberties Union [ACLU] has "sunk to a new low," becoming a "cheerleader" for the violation of civil liberties of political opponents, evidenced in the FBI raid earlier this week to obtain documents from President Donald Trump's attorney Michael Cohen, said Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz.

In an opinion piece in the Washington Examiner on Saturday, Dershowitz blasted the raid, saying it could open the door to precedent in seizing records protected by attorney-client privilege, even though the move was a violation to the Fourth and Sixth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

"Since the election of President Trump, [the ACLU] has sunk to a new low, becoming a cheerleader for the violation of the civil liberties of those on the other side of the political spectrum," Dershowitz wrote.

"The ACLU does not discuss the violations of the Fourth and Sixth Amendments that occur as soon as government agents read communications that were supposed to be protected by the Fourth and Sixth Amendments," he continued.

Ace Hardware Reverses Decision on Advertising with Laura Ingraham

Ace Hardware has reversed its decision to pull ads from Fox News host Laura Ingraham’s show the Ingraham Angle and announced Friday it would resume advertising on the program.

An Ace Hardware spokesperson told the Wrap last week that the company would pull its ads from Ingraham’s show after gun control activist David Hogg called for advertisers to boycott the program.

But a company spokesperson confirmed with The Hill Friday that Ace Hardware had backtracked on its decision to pull ads and apologized for the “incomplete information” the company had at the time of the initial announcement.

“The information we had at the time of the initial request was incomplete and we apologize for that,” an Ace Hardware spokeswoman said in an emailed statement.

Once Again, One Judge Halts Trump's Ban on Transgender Troops

A federal judge late Friday barred the government from implementing President Donald Trump's ban on transgender troops pending a review of court challenges because of the history of discrimination against transgender individuals.

U.S. District Court Judge Marsha Pechman of the Western District of Washington ruled that transgender people were a protected class of people, HuffPost reports.

"The court also rules that, because transgender people have long been subjected to systemic oppression and forced to live in silence, they are a protected class," Pechman wrote in her decision.

A $76,000 Monthly Pension: Why States and Cities Are Short on Cash

Governments are struggling as mounting pension obligations crowd
out the rest of their budgets. Oregon faces a severe, self-inflicted crisis.

A public university president in Oregon gives new meaning to the idea of a pensioner.

Joseph Robertson, an eye surgeon who retired as head of the Oregon Health & Science University last fall, receives the state’s largest government pension.

It is $76,111.

Per month.

That is considerably more than the average Oregon family earns in a year.

Oregon — like many other states and cities, including New Jersey, Kentucky and Connecticut — is caught in a fiscal squeeze of its own making. Its economy is growing, but the cost of its state-run pension system is growing faster. More government workers are retiring, including more than 2,000, like Dr. Robertson, who get pensions exceeding $100,000 a year.

Car Salesman Tricks You Must Be Careful With

Finding a perfect car is hard—but making sure you find a great deal without being pressured is even harder. You need to be on the lookout for the 5 most common tactics that car salespeople use in order to know how to handle them.
The Lowball/The Highball

This is tactic works two ways: the lowball is when the salesperson offers a ridiculously low trade-in price on your vehicle, and the highball is when the salesperson offers you one of their own vehicles for a ridiculously high price.

They are trying to get as much money out of you as possible, and if they learn you’re a sucker early on, they’ll keep repeating this tactic at each stage of the negotiation process.
The Hard Sell

This is probably the most stereotypical technique associated with car salespeople. A hard sell is a method through which the salesperson aggressively, directly, and forcefully attempts to make a sale. Asking questions like, “what do I need to do to get you to buy a car before you leave the lot today?” or making statements like “you’d be crazy to walk away from a deal like this—you’re not going to find one anywhere else—” are examples of a hard sell.

Cory Booker's Inquisition Into Marriage Views Is About Keeping You Silent

“Do you believe that gay sex is a perversion?”

Believe it or not, that question was posed—repeatedly—in a Thursday Senate confirmation hearing to Mike Pompeo, the CIA director now nominated to be secretary of state. The graphic question was put to him by Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J.

He also wanted to know exactly what Pompeo thought about same-sex marriage.

New Elvis Presley documentary ignores the King’s dark side

“The Searcher,” premiering Saturday night on HBO, aims to be the definitive documentary of Elvis Presley — the title reflective of Presley’s artistic and emotional hunger, a short life shaped by so much tragedy.

But it doesn’t tell the whole truth.

Anyone with a passing familiarity knows the story: The world’s first rock star becomes a bloated satire of himself within two decades, dying on his bathroom floor at age 42.

The tragedy of Elvis is the stuff of Greek mythology, treated as such by Peter Guralnick in his peerless Elvis biographies “Last Train to Memphis” and “Careless Love.”

“The Searcher,” while beautifully done, feels more like legacy rehab. Co-produced by Presley’s ex-wife, Priscilla — who has never remarried and remains keeper of the flame — the film features previously unreleased footage and recordings from the Presley archives.

Amid Push for Knife Control, UK Shows Gun Control Doesn't Increase Safety

It was widely reported earlier this month that London experienced a higher number of murders over the first three months of 2018 than did New York City—the first time in modern history that has occurred.

The United Kingdom has some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the world, so the increased murder rate in the British capital is largely a result of asharp rise in knife-related crime.

The surge in violence prompted London Mayor Sadiq Khan to announce a massive “knife control” campaign eerily reminiscent of those sometimes proffered in the United States in response to firearms-related violence.

The knife control measures will include the deployment of 300 additional London police officers to conduct “stop and frisk” searches of individuals suspected of knife-carrying, a policing tactic once roundly condemned by Khan.

Purdue University Just Froze Tuition for the 7th Straight Year. Here's How.

Purdue University President Mitch Daniels, the former governor of Indiana and director of President George W. Bush’s Office of Management and Budget, spoke exclusively to The Daily Signal’s Rob Bluey at the Reagan Institute Summit on Education on Thursday. Daniels explained how Purdue has been able to freeze its tuition for seven consecutive years and why free speech is flourishing on its campus in West Lafayette, Indiana. A transcript of his Daily Signal interview is below.

Bluey: We’re here at the Reagan Institute Summit on Education. What’s your message to the attendees at this event?

Mitch Daniels: I believe that higher education as we’ve known it is in some jeopardy. A lot of institutions, at least, are going to have difficulty persuading sufficient numbers of students and their families in the future that they’re providing value commensurate with the cost that they’re charging.

I also suggested that there are big opportunities that we need as a society to have addressed. Large numbers of people who could better themselves in life if they were to complete that degree that they started and didn’t finish, or maybe do one from scratch. We’re going to need new ways and means of reaching them, since many of them are well beyond the stage in life where they can engage in old-fashioned residential education.

Sessions Blasts Sanctuary Cities Over MS-13

Attorney General Jeff Sessions called out Baltimore for its sanctuary city policy Tuesday, claiming city leaders are only helping to facilitate criminal activity by dangerous gangs like MS-13.

The comments came as Sessions and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen appeared in Baltimore to discuss recent efforts to combat MS-13, an international criminal organization with more than 10,000 members across the U.S. Sessions was asked whether he views Baltimore as a sanctuary city during a press conference following his speech.

“We know MS-13 in the region here is responsible for a quite a number of the most brutal murders,” Sessions told reporters. “I see no justification whatsoever for any city, any jurisdiction, any state, to take the view that someone who enters the country illegally and then commits some other crime should be protected from federal law to be deported. I feel very strongly about that.”

Yahoo and AOL just gave themselves the right to read your emails (again)

Oath, the media division of Verizon that runs both AOL and Yahoo, is finally unifying the privacy policy of its two giant legacy Internet brands. That means an updated set of privacy terms and policies for hundreds of millions of users. And in an online world where privacy expectations have been radically reshaped in light of Facebook's Cambridge Analytica mess, it's more important than ever to read the fine print on those splash screens.

When we logged in to a Yahoo Mail account Friday, we were greeted with the privacy policy you see below (Jason Kint had pointed to the policy earlier on Twitter). In it, Oath notes that it has the right to read your emails, instant messages, posts, photos and even look at your message attachments. And it might share that data with parent company Verizon, too..

Second Amendment Supporters Are Definitely Voting in November

In a rally at the State House in Montpelier, hundreds of voters unveiled what may be a major rallying cry in the run-up to the mid-term elections: “Remember in November.”

The slogan is sharply similar to Guy Fawkes’ Gunpowder Plot to bring down British Parliament celebrated around the world with the saying, “Remember the Fifth of November.”

Vermonters gathered together showcasing the right to bear arms in response to yet another encroachment on their constitutional rights. In early April, Republican Gov. Phil Scott had received bills that would unnecessarily restrict guns to law-abiding citizens. In what may be the match that lights the American powder keg, citizens arrived at rallies in Montpelier, South Burlington, Barre and Bennington lawfully armed with everything from hunting rifles to firearms the anti-gun lobby has dubbed “assault rifles.”

One of the movement’s organizers, Christopher Covey, told reporters, “I know people are afraid of guns. It’s not the gun you have to fear, it’s the gun in the wrong hand.”

People such as Marine veteran Nicholas Halverson showcased an AR-15 to highlight that the firearms is “no different than any other rifle.”

After Shootings and Hurricanes, Where Are the School Counselors?

With both kinds of traumatic events on the rise, school counselors can't keep up with the demand for mental health services.

Janine Menard is just one person, but as a school counselor, she's responsible for the well-being of 1,300 students. Because of this ratio, she says she missed the signs of a "good student" who committed suicide.

“She was in such pain, and I couldn’t see it,” says Menard, who has been a school counselor for 15 years and chairs the Arizona School Counselors Association's Board of Directors.

She's the only school counselor for two different schools, and most of her time is spent on the neediest students -- those in foster care or living in extreme poverty.

Assisted Living: A $10 Billion Industry With Little Oversight

It’s largely up to states to regulate these facilities -- many of which don’t even employ full-time nurses.

For millions of older Americans, there’s nothing stronger than the desire to age in place, maintaining their independence and avoiding intensive institutional care for as long as possible. Increasingly, assisted living is filling the gap between home and a nursing facility.

States spend a reported $10 billion in federal and state money per year on Medicaid beneficiaries in assisted living facilities, averaging $30,000 per patient, per year. But it’s not clear whether governments are getting their money’s worth in terms of quality of care and, critically, the safety and well-being of the facilities’ residents.

Answers to some of those concerns came in a February report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), which found significant shortcomings in oversight of assisted living facilities across the country. Forty-eight states receive some kind of Medicaid funding for assisted living facilities, but 26 of those states do not report “critical incidents” -- including unexplained deaths, abuse, neglect or financial exploitation -- to the federal government.

10 Questions Media Has Let Comey Avoid

Why has the tough media — especially mainstream media — allowed James Comey, the former FBI director, to get away with avoiding the tough questions about his inappropriate and possibly unethical conduct of the Hillary Clinton emails investigation? Comey has also been downright evasive and, in one major respect, dishonest — and yet, the mainstream media for some reason doesn’t get tough and call him at it. This applies to The New York Times in a recent summary of Comey’s responses to questions and ABC News, during its tough interview by George Stephanopoulos on ABC network scheduled for Sunday night, April 15.

Here are the 10 tough questions not asked and answered by Comey:

1. Can you cite a single top Justice Department official in either party going back as far as you want who would justify an FBI investigator, including the FBI Director, publicly revealing the results of an ongoing criminal investigation – either directly or by speaking “on background,” anonymously to the media? Do you think such comments on the record or on background by an FBI investigator is a firing offense?

Gunny R. Lee Ermey Dies From Pneumonia

U.S. Marine and Golden Globe nominee Ronald Lee Ermey died of complications from pneumonia Friday. He was 74 years old.

Ermey joined the Marine Corps in 1961 at age 17. He served in the aviation support field before becoming a Drill Instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. Ermey also served in Okinawa, Japan and in Vietnam for 14 months in 1968. He was medically discharged in 1972.

Ermey was famous for his Marine style roles in movies like “Full Metal Jacket” (1987), Se7ven (1995) and “Saving Silverman” (2001). He also hosted “Mail Call” (2002-2009) on The History Channel where he would answer letters from viewers about weapons, tactics, equipment and military terminology.

Ermey served as a consultant on “Full Metal Jacket,” and his convincing improvised dialogue eventually led Director Stanley Kubrick to cast him in his iconic roll as Drill Instructor Gunnery Sergeant Hartman.

Nearly One-Third Of Americans Believe Facebook Has A "Negative Impact On Society"

Chamath Palihapitiya, former Facebook vice president for user growth, isn't the only one who believes his former employer is ripping apart the fabric of society.

Palihapitiya triggered an unexpectedly intense backlash after revealing that he feels "tremendous guilt" for his role in building the social media giant, warning that, if you feed the beast, that beast will destroy you..."

"I feel tremendous guilt."

"I think we have created tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works. That is truly where we are."

"I would encourage all of you, as the future leaders of the world, to really internalize how important this is. If you feed the beast, that beast will destroy you. If you push back on it you have a chance to control it and reign it in."

"There is a point in time when people need a hard break from some of these tools."

"The short-term, dopamine-driven feedback loops we've created are destroying how society works. No civil discourse, no cooperation; misinformation, mistruth. And it's not an American problem — this is not about Russians ads. This is a global problem."

"So, we're in a really bad state of affairs right now, in my opinion. It is eroding the core foundations of how people behave by and between each other."

"And, I don't have a good solution. You know, my solution is I just don't use these tools anymore. I ahven't for years. It's created huge tension with my friends. Huge tensions in my social circles."

...He later walked his comments back after twitter users suggested that he maybe donate some of the money he made off the enterprise to a worthy cause.

Dems Might Regret Hiking Calis Gas Taxes

California Republicans are mounting a campaign to motivate voters against a very unpopular gas tax increase Democrats passed in 2017.

Republican Reps. Kevin McCarthy and Mimi Walters of California are using a very unpopular gas tax increase to generate excitement among GOP votes. Both Republicans want to put a measure on the ballot that repeals the increase. They believe the campaign could increase voter turnout and staunch a blue wave in the state.

“We pay one of the highest gasoline taxes in the nation,” Walters told reporters Saturday, according to The Hill. “By the time you get to 2021, we’re going to be paying $2 a gallon for gasoline just in taxes, and we can’t do that for working families who have to travel for their job.”

Recent polls show McCarthy and Walters’ gamble has a chance to pay off.

Troopers save attempted Chesapeake City Bridge jumper

(North East, MD) On April 15, 2018 just after 5:00 PM, troopers from the North East Barrack responded to the Chesapeake City Bridge on MD 213/ Augustine Herman Highway in Elkton, for a male subject who reportedly parked his vehicle on the crest of the bridge in the middle of the roadway. The male subject then walked to edge of the railing of the bridge and stopped.

Upon troopers’ arrival, the male refused to speak with anyone and stated if he saw another officer approach him he would jump. The Chesapeake City Bridge, both northbound and southbound directions were closed. A perimeter was established consisting of United States Coast Guard, Cecil County Fire Department and the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office. Troopers on scene attempted to talk the subject away from the edge. Other units held the perimeter awaiting the arrival of negotiators. While holding the scene, the subject attempted to move his body over the bridge’s ledge. Senior Trooper Proctor and Trooper First Class York talked the subject back from the ledge, and took him into custody.

The subject was then transported to Union Hospital for an emergency petition.

Eggs recalled over salmonella fears

Through an abundance of caution Rose Acre Farms of Seymour, Indiana is voluntarily recalling 206,749,248 eggs because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella Braenderup can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella Braenderup can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The eggs were distributed from the farm in Hyde County, North Carolina and reached consumers in the following states: Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia through retail stores and restaurants via direct delivery.

22 illnesses have been reported to date.

The only reason the guy is in jail is because Worcester County violated his probation (he was convicted of child pornography from what we’ve heard) and the Worcester County State’s Attorney and judge gave him his three years back up time. I don’t know if Kristin Heiser has children but how would she feel if this was her child that had been followed and videotaped?

Trump's New Obamacare Rules Give States More Power. Will They Take It?

The new rules are designed to reduce premiums, but health policy experts say they will have little effect.

In its latest health care move this week, the Trump administration is offering states the power to loosen federal regulations for health insurance plans sold on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace.

The 523-page final rule from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services allows states to develop their own version of essential health benefits, starting in 2020. State officials will still have to offer the 10 essential health benefits established by the ACA -- including coverage for maternity care and mental health services -- but they’ll be able to pick and choose new benchmarks -- such as fewer covered doctors visits or prescription drugs -- for those services.

Under the current rules adopted by the Obama administration, states have one benchmark plan that defines how essential health benefits are covered in every plan.

NRA Announces Drive to Sign Up 100,000 New Members in 100 Days

'The threat to our Second Amendment has never been greater'

The National Rifle Association announced a membership drive on Thursday with the goal of signing up 100,000 new members in the next 100 days.

"The NRA's strength is in our dedicated and politically savvy members," Jason J. Brown, NRA media relations manager, told theWashington Free Beacon. "Over the next 100 days we hope to welcome 100,000 new freedom-loving Americans to our ranks. The threat to our Second Amendment has never been greater."

The NRA's membership drive comes shortly after gun-control activists held nationwide rallies last month demanding new gun bans and age restrictions on purchasing firearms. The organizers behind the March for Our Lives rally managed to raise over $3 million dollars, much of which wasgiven to a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization that plans to continue lobbying beyond the marches.

It also comes after a number of states have passed new restrictive gun-control measures. Republican governors in Florida and Vermont have even reversed their previous pro-gun positions to sign two of the most sweeping new gun-control laws in the country. The NRA has alreadychallenged the Florida law in court.

‘Not Being Viewed as an Enemy’ Propels California Company’s Move to Texas

The top executive of a Southern California private charter airline says the Golden State’s hostile business environment propelled his company’s decision to relocate to Texas.

“Not being viewed as an enemy, but being viewed as an asset is so refreshing,” said Alex Wilcox, Chief Executive Officer of JetSuite Inc., who, on Thursday, spoke to the Dallas Business Journal. He described the air carrier’s decision to move to North Texas this summer as a “welcome change.”

He even shared a glaring example of one difference between California and business-friendly Texas. “I tried to start flying out of Santa Monica, California. And they sued me because I was trying to bring a service to the city,” said Wilcox. “When I got to Dallas, literally, people in City Hall were like, ‘How can we help you?’”

Jeff Landry: Accurate Census Protects Our Republic

Late last month, my office and the American people received great news from the White House: our petition to reinstate the citizenship question in the decennial 2020 Census was approved. We will once again get a more accurate count of how many American citizens reside in our country.

As the chief legal officer of Louisiana and a former member of Congress – I know how critical the data concerning citizenship, legal immigration, illegal immigration, and the distribution of the population is to the functions of government. It is also crucial in terms of ensuring fair and equitable districting of the people’s representatives at the State and Federal levels. This issue touches the heart of our republic and the constitutional rights of every citizen.

The decision by Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross to ask if one is a citizen or not is no new idea. For decades, the Census Bureau included a citizenship question on the “long form” questionnaire sent to nearly one in every six households during each decennial census. The long form’s replacement – the American Community Survey – also collects information regarding citizenship and estimates citizen voting-age population, though its estimates have a much higher margin of error since it is sent to far fewer people.

The move by Secretary Ross is important because States generally apportion their legislative districts based on census numbers. Counting everyone regardless of legal status dilutes the votes of all legally-eligible voters by not only bolstering the representation of illegal immigrants and non-voting legal immigrants at the expense of the voting age citizenry, but by also skewing the national data and some States losing Congressional representation.

Furthermore, the reinstatement restores the rule of law. The Supreme Court has held that Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act prohibits “vote dilution” by state and local jurisdictions engaged in redistricting, which can occur when a racial group is improperly deprived of a single-member district in which it could form a majority.

Alan Dershowitz: I'm not a defender of Donald Trump, I'm a defender of civil liberties and due process

Famed lawyer Alan Dershowitz on Sunday wouldn't say whether he had been asked to join President Trump's legal team, adding as a Democrat his only concern was whether Trump's civil liberties and due process rights were being infringed by special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe.

"I do not want to be his lawyer, I don't want to give him legal advice," Dershowitz said during an interview on CNN's "Reliable Sources."

Dershowitz, who dined at the White House on Tuesday as part of a prearranged meeting to discuss Middle East politics, described Trump as "pretty upbeat" during their conversation.

"At the dinner they basically threw me out when they wanted to talk about confidences," he continued. "I am not a supporter, I am not a defender of Donald Trump the person, I'm a defender of civil liberties and basic due process."

But Dershowitz recommended Trump's legal counsel focus on the state case against Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen in New York rather than Mueller's federal investigation.

'We will destroy all of Hamas's tunnels'

Eyal Zamir, head of the IDF's Southern Command, on Sunday evening spoke about the terror tunnel leading from Gaza into Israel which the IDF demolished over the weekend.

"We foiled an offensive tunnel that was penetrating into our territory. This is the deepest tunnel we have discovered. This fact reflects the technological capabilities we have in the Gaza Division,” Zamir said.

"This is significant and reflects a chain of successes," Zamir continued. "There is still work ahead of us and we are continuing with it more forcefully. In the end we will destroy Hamas’s entire offensive tunnel project."

Zamir also said that the goal of Hamas's tunnel was to reach Israel and carry out terror attacks.

Comey book: President Obama and Loretta Lynch 'jeopardized' the Hillary Clinton email investigation

Former FBI Director James Comey doesn’t believe anyone in the government brought politics into the Hillary Clinton email investigation — aside from then-President Obama and Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who he believes "jeopardized" the Department of Justice.

In his upcoming book, A Higher Loyalty, due out on Tuesday, Comey defends the FBI investigators who were charged with investigating Clinton’s private email server and her mishandling of classified information. The Washington Examiner obtained a copy of the book Sunday.

Comey said Obama’s public statements about the investigation “jeopardized” the investigation’s credibility in multiple interviews and seemed to absolve Clinton of any crime before FBI investigators completed their work.

“Contributing to this problem, regrettably, was President Obama. He had jeopardized the Department of Justice’s credibility in the investigation by saying in a 60 Minutes interview on Oct. 11, 2015, that Clinton’s email use was “a mistake” that had not endangered national security,” Comey writes. “Then on Fox News on April 10, 2016, he said that Clinton may have been careless but did not do anything to intentionally harm national security, suggesting that the case involved overclassification of material in the government.”

“President Obama is a very smart man who understands the law very well. To this day, I don’t know why he spoke about the case publicly and seemed to absolve her before a final determination was made. If the president had already decided the matter, an outside observer could reasonably wonder, how on earth could his Department of Justice do anything other than follow his lead.”

Trump wants James Comey jailed

President Trump repeatedly called for former FBI Director James Comey to be jailed for his handling of classified information and potentially lying to Congress in a string of tweets Sunday.

Excerpts from Comey’s upcoming book, A Higher Loyalty, which will be released on Tuesday, sparked the tweets.

“The big questions in Comey’s badly reviewed book aren’t answered like, how come he gave up Classified Information (jail), why did he lie to Congress (jail), why did the DNC refuse to give Server to the FBI (why didn’t they TAKE it), why the phony memos, McCabe’s $700,000 & more?” Trump tweeted.

Earlier in the morning, Trump slammed Comey for taking into account the polling in the 2016 election when deciding if he should notify Congress of the additional emails found on disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s computer in October 2016. Democrats widely blame Comey deciding to reopen the investigation into Clinton’s emails 11 days before the election for costing her the race.

Hilton: Will Comey be held accountable for his behavior?

Democrats and Republicans agree that James Comey is guilty of politicizing the FBI and meddling in the 2016 election. Everyone can now see that he is guilty of self-righteousness, self-regard and inappropriately producing a petty cash-for-gossip revenge attack on President Trump.

But the serious question, and one that goes to the heart of our confidence in law enforcement in this country, is whether James Comey is guilty of federal crimes.

If there is evidence to that effect, and if a case is not brought against him, that would be a shattering blow to democratic norms. It would send a message that the most senior law enforcement officials in the land can behave exactly as they wish, carry out whatever personal and political vendettas they want - and get away with it. It would send a message that America’s law enforcement officials are, in fact, above the law.

That is a dangerous and frightening scenario - one you would more normally associate with a banana republic or authoritarian dictatorship than the world’s oldest democracy.

So it’s important we examine this matter carefully. There are many accusations about Comey’s behavior swirling around. The very fact that his tenure at the FBI has brought so much controversy in its wake - even before President Trump was elected, let’s remember - point to a level of professional incompetence that deserves censure.

There are four specific areas where there are serious grounds to suspect that James Comey broke the law while he was FBI Director:

Gingrich: Comey has written an anti-Trump novel that will be amazingly discredited

My first reaction to fired FBI Director James Comey’s new book "A Higher Loyalty" is to demand that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein release the still-secret Comey memorandums describing his conversations with Donald Trump as president-elect and president. After seeing hundreds of pages of Comey’s self-serving version of reality, the American people deserve to see what he actually wrote at the time of these conversations.

I suspect the memos will undermine a lot of Comey’s case. In fact, it is hard to understand why Rosenstein is keeping these memos hidden – unless it weakens the Deep State’s case against President Trump.

There are two striking things about the initial leaks of the Comey anti-Trump novel. And I call it a novel because it will be amazingly discredited after the elite media is done fawning over Comey and people actually look at what he wrote and how he positioned himself.

Allergy Season In Maryland Set To Spike

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — With the arrival of spring and warm weather comes seasonal allergies, and experts predict next week will be the worst so far this year.

The beauty of spring is blooming all around, which can make some allergy sufferers miserable.

“I deal with it every year, and I do the best I can,” allergy sufferer Susan Berman said.

Millions of Americans deal with this pesky problem.

Tree pollen is the biggest allergen this time of year.

Experts warn that the unusual weather pattern has impacted the season.

“The pollen is getting a little bit of a late start. We haven’t seen high levels in early April like we usually do, but watch out, you are going to get spikes this week of some of the highest pollen levels we have ever seen potentially,” Allergist Dr. Manav Singla with MedStar Health.

Be the Man in the Arena: How to Get Involved in Politics

If you look at news on the web, on TV, or on your social media feeds, it seems like politics have never been more toxic than they are today. Partisanship, gridlock, and continuous outrage make it easy for a man to look at the political realm and say, “No thanks.” Yet the thread of politics runs deep through the history of man — occasionally giving us knots, but also weaving in some of our strongest leaders and noblest ideals. It has created a fabric that ties us together, across social classes and throughout the generations. A few eminent men throughout history make our responsibility clear:

“Be master of yourself, and view life as a man, as a human being, as a citizen, and as a mortal.” —Marcus Aurelius

“It ought to be axiomatic in this country that every man must devote a reasonable share of his time to doing his duty in the Political life of the community.” —Theodore Roosevelt (Find more of Teddy’s incisive thoughts on citizenship here.)

“My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country!” —John F. Kennedy

The most direct way to get involved in politics is to run for office yourself, but you don’t have to go all-in to make a difference. There are a wide range of opportunities to participate in the democratic process, and along the way you will sharpen your own beliefs, strengthen your connection with your community, and make friendships forged in common values and shared experiences. I’ve met some of my best friends while working on campaigns, and I hope your journey can be just as rewarding.

If you have never volunteered for a campaign before, gotten involved with a political party, or helped facilitate an election, this is your call to action, and your guide to getting started. If you are already active in politics, you may find a new way to broaden your experiences and take on a larger role in your community. Your town, your state, your district, and your country cannot improve unless good men open the gates and step into TR’s rhetorical arena. Let’s get started.

Viking skeleton’s DNA test proves historians wrong

The remains of a powerful Viking — long thought to be a man — was in fact a real-life Xena Warrior Princess, a study released Friday reveals.

The lady war boss was buried in the mid-10th century along with deadly weapons and two horses, leading archaeologists and historians to assume she was a man, according to the findings published in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology.

Wrong.

“It’s actually a woman, somewhere over the age of 30 and fairly tall, too, measuring around [5 feet 6 inches] tall,” archaeologist Charlotte Hedenstierna-Jonson of Uppsala University, who conducted the study, told The Local.

And she was likely in charge.

“Aside from the complete warrior equipment buried along with her — a sword, an ax, a spear, armor-piercing arrows, a battle knife, shields, and two horses — she had a board game in her lap, or more of a war-planning game used to try out battle tactics and strategies, which indicates she was a powerful military leader,” Hedenstierna-Jonson said. “She’s most likely planned, led and taken part in battles.”

"Jerome Is The New Janet" - Stockman Rages At The Fed's Systematic Lies

The election of 2016 was supposed to be the most disruptive break with the status quo in modern history, if ever. On the single most important decision of his tenure, however, the Donald has lined-up check-by-jowl with Barry and Dubya, too.

That is to say, Trump's new Fed chairman, Jerome Powell, amounts to Janet Yellen in trousers and tie. In fact, you can make it a three-part composite by adding Bernanke with a full head of hair and Greenspan sans the mumble.

The overarching point here is that the great problems plaguing American society---scarcity of good jobs, punk GDP growth, faltering productivity, raging wealth mal-distribution, massive indebtedness, egregious speculative bubbles, fiscally incontinent government----are overwhelmingly caused by our rogue central bank. They are the fetid fruits of massive and sustained financial repression and falsification of the most import prices in all of capitalism-----the prices of money, debt, equities and other financial assets.

Moreover, the worst of it is that the Fed is overwhelmingly the province of an unelected politburo that rules by the lights of its own Keynesian groupthink and by the hypnotic power of its Big Lie. So powerful is the latter that American democracy has meekly seconded vast, open-ended power to dominate the financial markets, and therefore the warp and woof of the nation's $19 trillioneconomy, to a tiny priesthood possessing neither of the usual instruments of rule.

That is to say, never before in history has a people so completely and abjectly surrendered to an occupying power---even though its ostensibly democratic government already possessed all the votes and all the guns.

So it is no exaggeration to say, therefore, that the Fed is an alien state unto itself. That was powerfully symbolized most recently by the appointment of John Williams, a lifetime apparatchik at the San Francisco Fed, to the job of head satrap at the central bank's Liberty Street outpost in the heart of Wall Street.

Is This the Moment of Truth?

One of the most famous passages in American literature occurs in Chapter 13 of Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises. It takes place in a café in Pamplona, Spain during the running of the bulls.
Bill Gorton, a friend of the protagonist, Jake Barnes, has just arrived from New York. Bill is in the café talking with Mike Campbell, an upper-crust Englishman, now fallen on hard times but keeping up appearances.
In the course of telling a story about his tailor, Mike casually mentions his bankruptcy. Here’s the dialogue:
“How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked.
“Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually and then suddenly.”
“What brought it on?”
“Friends,” said Mike. “I had a lot of friends. False friends. Then I had creditors, too. Probably had more creditors than anybody in England.”
Mike admits to his own helplessness; his descent into bankruptcy was apparently totally beyond his control. This reflects upon his lack of control with regards not only to his business matters, but to his life in general.
You’ve probably seen variations of the part of the passage that says, “Gradually and then suddenly.” It’s often paraphrased or misquoted as, “slowly at first, and then quickly.”
The short version of the quote is offered as a warning that a slow, steady accumulation of debt with no particular plan for repayment can continue longer than expected, and then suddenly descend into a full-blown financial distress scenario and a rapid end-state of collapse.

Trump Blames Democrats' "Fake Investigation" For "Bad Blood" With Russia, Blasts Mueller

After back-pedaling from his earlier aggressive threat tweet...
Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!
With some more diplomatic words...
Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War. There is no reason for this. Russia needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the arms race?

President Trump has turned his attention to who is to blame for this situation... It's Obama and the Democrats!!

Devin Nunes Threatens to Impeach DOJ's Rod Rosenstein and FBI’s Chris Wray

“Just the fact that they’re not giving this to us tells me there’s something wrong here.”

The top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee says he is prepared to impeach the head of the FBI and Deputy Attorney General if he doesn’t get a two-page document he says prompted the Russia investigation.

“Just the fact that they’re not giving this to us tells me there’s something wrong here,” California Republican Rep. Devin Nunes told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on the The Ingraham Angle Tuesday night.

“I can tell you that we’re not just going to hold in contempt, we will have a plan to hold in contempt and to impeach,” Nunes told Ingraham, who asked what his committee would do to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein if they don’t bow to his demand.

The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee has been seeking an unredacted version of the document which marked the beginning and formal basis of the FBI’s investigation of the Trump campaign on allegations it aided Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.

White House Demands ‘Concrete’ Actions from China on Trade, Won't Halt Tariff Process

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Tuesday pivot on trade and intellectual property is encouraging to the White House, but the Trump administration will move forward with intentions President Donald Trump has announced until the Chinese government produces concrete actions.

Reporters repeatedly asked Press Secretary Sarah Sanders during Tuesday’s press conference about the Chinese President’s new promises to cut automobile tariffs and make improvements on protecting intellectual property in China.

Moments ahead of the press conference, President Trump tweeted:

Very thankful for President Xi of China’s kind words on tariffs and automobile barriers...also, his enlightenment on intellectual property and technology transfers. We will make great progress together!
Jinping has made similar promises before. Sanders was asked if the new promises would be sufficient to prevent some of President Trump’s proposed tariffs on Chinese imports.
