After just 4 days, federal workers are flocking to social media to share heart-wrenching stories of the misery and pain that they are suffering through because of the current government shutdown.
As you will see below, it is being claimed that some federal workers were actually forced to return Christmas presents just so that they could afford to pay their mortgages, others are claiming that President Trump “destroyed Christmas”, and the wife of one federal worker says that she is going to have to kill her cat if this shutdown goes much longer.
You couldn’t make this stuff up even if you tried, and it makes one wonder how these people would survive if a real national crisis actually erupted.
The truth is that thousands of federal workers are currently experiencing a paid vacation over the holidays, and ultimately their annual pay won’t be a penny lower than it otherwise would have been.
Other federal workers are currently working without pay, but they will get paid later. Like the above group, their annual pay will be just the same as if the government never experienced a shutdown at all.
But if you go to social media, you would be tempted to believe that America had just entered the apocalypse. Here is a sampling of some of the comments under the #ShutdownStories hashtag on Twitter…
On the first day of the shutdown, one federal worker was “obsessively” checking his bank accounts…
Day 1 of the #Shutdown: Got my furlough papers. Had brunch with fellow feds. Obsessively checked news and bank accounts. Contemplated a “#shutdownbeard Drank @Jameson_US with @bstiteler, ate mom’s Christmas cookies. Fell asleep to @BritishBakeOff. #shutdownstories
Oh the humanity!
Instead of working, he was forced to have brunch with friends, eat his mother’s cookies and fall asleep watching television.
How much suffering can one person take?
And if he has multiple “bank accounts”, he must not be hurting too much.
Another deeply troubled federal worker was wondering how she would possibly pay for Christmas if paychecks were delayed for a few weeks…
@TeaPainUSA whenever I talk about my air traffic control husband working without pay on Twitter, all I get is hateful remarks about how he WILL & won’t lose a dime. Um YEAH I KNOW that, but what are we supposed to do about Christmas & bills in the meantime? #ShutdownStories
Seriously, has this person ever heard of a “credit card”?

Like it was stated in another post the average is 125,000/yr. I realize that's an average but I'm sure the least is 60-70,000 per year. If you don't have a smallnest egg on that then cry me a 'frickin river
ReplyDeleteOh, now we are attacking federal workers. I thought this site only demonized teachers. Silly me!
ReplyDeleteNon essential employees are on leave...duh. Why would we even consider bringing them back???
ReplyDeleteHouse/Senate are putting together something to allow the rest of the gov't to reopen on Jan 3rd. But if it doesn't include what the President wants, then the govies' will sit longer and use their credit cards a bit longer.
ReplyDeleteAfter ALL is said/done and everyone returns, they will receive retro pay for the missed days. Why? Because they didn't do this, CONgress did, they are taxpayers AND they are voters!
Its ALL about and continues to be about - politics!
They haven't even missed a pay day yet and are hurting. Must be living large, way above their means.
ReplyDeleteOh, kill her cat, are you nuts? I don't care for cat's but turn the pet out and give it a sporting chance. Let it find a meal. If you feel like killing something, take a look in the mirror and you'll find the first victim. F'n' nuts, that federal worker needs to get away from her.
Where was the condemnation when MD State Employees had furlough days without pay or reimbursement for years? We had to get 2 & 3 jobs instead of sit on our lazy a$$ and want pity. They are getting a paid vacation. Why are their Unions allowing the Politians, their bosses, get paid during this time? Why Does the Unions allow protection for them and during budget sessions protect them instead of allowing the Congressional budget be passed first for the Politians protection? Proves Politians are looking out for themselves and nobody else. The Federal employee that I not fighting for themselves shows they are to much like a Politian. that wants something always given to them without them putting out any effort. With their mentality and wanting a pity party all the time , then let them live homeless on the streets of DC. That is all the pity they will get from me.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you spelled Unions with a capital U. you might be educated more than you are projecting on most of your post 11:49
DeleteGeez, when I worked for the Fed. Govt. I was rolling in $$$ We were so overpaid for the little we had to do, I had a small nest egg that I built up after I had paid all the bills. (over $40,000)
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine getting over $38 per hour in 1990 for looking over tax returns? Just think what agents are getting paid today!
Sounds like a bunch of crybaby liberals to me
ReplyDeleteWhy aren't they screaming at Nancy and Chuck
They are the hold up artists here
Not everyone has credit cards. There are those of us who work and live paycheck to paycheck. Yes I am effected by the furlough. Getting paid later does not help me now with groceries or gas.
ReplyDeleteCome down off your high horse. I would much rather be at my job earning my pay so I can provide for my family.
I am guessing you are also the person who has a problem with teachers because they get their summers "off"
Exactly @11:02. This pay period for them is two weeks from now. If you're that much of a broke dick you might want to get a second job or take the federal OPM upon their employee assistant program because you have either a drug or gambling problem
ReplyDeleteMost federal employees are over paid and under worked. IRS pays $47 and hour average, Post Office pays over $28 per hour, National Park losers get $22 to $29 per hour.
ReplyDeleteCry me a river you useless POS Govt. Whiners!
I agree Government workers are on a paid vacation. However, please don't group all federal employees together. There really are some hard working Federal employees who are on furlough that are not complaining. Everyone knows they will get paid for not working. Just a few cry babies. Wouldn't be surprised if they were paid to complain. From former Fed.
ReplyDeleteDon't be the obtuse morons you always prove everyday that you are by your stupidity... The shutdown and govt workers are not suffering you idiots, they will get paid, it is THE LAW they will get back pay for how ever long the govt is shut down... If you were not so stupid, fat and retarded, and actually red the laws, you would clearly read that govt workers MUST BE PAID even when there is a shutdown... So wither they get paid now or q week from now, a pay check is still a paycheck, and by my evidence, the govt workers are in by no means hurting for money when they make 50k to 100k or more a year to put a finger in their ass...

ReplyDeleteIf you are earning government scale wages, you should have savings, credit cards,&/or backup plan for emergencies; it's called being an adult. Our President is trying to have border security; blame the dingbat Democrats.
Fidelity says 1.5 million new millionaires this year due to government pensions only.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time just getting a job in any type of government was greatly desired based on the permanency of the job,the benefits it offered and the retirement programs, while knowing full well that the salary scale was below the private sector. The benefits and job permanency were more than enough to attract workers. Some where along the way compensation became the focal point, and for the most part now exceeds compensation paid in the private sector. With the permanency and benefits of the government jobs, is this fair? Of course not! However, with the strength of the “government unions”, there is very little chance of this situation changing.
ReplyDeleteI worked for a union and when we were on strike we did not receive any wages. My salary was a lot less than your lowest paid fed worker. By the way, teachers are still government employees. Why don't the teachers salaries get posted again.
ReplyDeleteThe truth about many federal workers is they love shutdowns. Many travel during that time and spend extra time with their families. During Christmas week, DC always shuts down, so this “shutdown” isn’t a real one until Jan. 2nd. That’s when it’s a real deal. All these theatrics is for show only. Not many federal workers live paycheck to paycheck like you mooks. With what they make, most have plenty in the bank. Don’t you worry about that...
ReplyDeleteAFLAC must be overwhelmed, since they opted to fill in the gap.
ReplyDeleteSeems fit people are upset when Federal workers are actually being paid living wages and benefits and the National Minimum wage required of the private sector is 7.25 an hour. That's a little ironic and Feudalistic that people's taxes are paying for people no brighter or harder working than themselves to do work that automation has replaced their jobs in the private sector.
